Would be a much better title. You must have the store, and a dollar sign helps the formatting.

    Price in title?

    No price. Must be free

I've got the 3-in-1 version of this. Works great, pricy for a glorified charger but I like that it's certified by Apple.

Always felt like using some cheap $10 QI charger from some random brand was a bit risky on a $2k device.

    • Is the base weighty enough to stay in place when you remove the phone from the magnet?

      • +4

I have the 3-in-1 too, and the base never moves when I take off my phone. Using the 13 Pro Max too which is the heaviest.

      • +1

The base is fairly hefty, like richochet18, mine never moves when I take off my phone. Also 13 Pro Max.

Love mine, not sure if the 2-in-1 would be any different.

      • I have the 2 in 1 and it doesn't move with my 13 Pro Max. Well worth the price in my opinion

      • It does move a little bit sometimes, better to hold it when removing

    • Do you have a link for the 3 in 1? Any good deals?

      • +1

Don't think theres any good deals at the moment. I bought mine at Officeworks a month back.

Price beat DigiDirect, they had it for $189, so I got mine for about $180.

        • +1

Thanks. Wish there was a cheap dual which does fast charging for the phone and the watch. I rarely have to charge the AirPods let alone require faster charging for it.

          • +1

@plasmapuff: I hear ya, though the charger on the base is just a standard 5W Qi charger so its quite useful for charging other Qi compatible devices, albiet a little slower.

      • Telstra rewards got good deal before 25 oct but now they back to normal price

The Anker version is $50 ish delivered from AliExpress. Works great and the head pivots too. Stable base.

this one isn’t certified MagSafe so will charge 7.5W, not 15W magsafe like the belkin :)

        • Doesn’t bother me really - I have it at my desk all day, so don’t really need fast charging.

      • However does this one only charge the phone wireless at 7.5W? I could find any specs listed

      • -1

        But, but… Apple!

        • +1

The product OP posted is as 'Apple' as Anker is… because it's Belkin.

      • -1

Anker and Aliexpress seems like a risky bet

        • +1

Delivered in a week for me. Also, I’m not sure where you’re getting that idea about Anker - they’re one of the better brands.

    • Why is it risky?

    • Belkin = Rip-off.
This mentality is the same as justifying paying $30-40 for a simple cable from Apple store while better alternatives are half the price, which is also certified by Apple.
Lots of great quality chargers can be found for anywhere between $40-80.

    • Why buy anything at all?

      • -2

Because you could buy something that helps you achieve some goal, or returns your investment. Or you could just chuck money down he drain…

        • +2

Why the hell are you on this website…

          • @smartazz104: So I can buy deals, not get pumped on overpriced electronics.

I usually try to hold back from panning apple products, many are good and some (like the watch) don't really have any stiff competition, but this charger can't be mentioned without the jaw dropping price, I thought they had played us all by making us buy wireless headphones for hundreds of dollars, but hundreds just to charge your phone? Shieeeeet!

        • I bought the 3-in-1 version, which is even more expensive, and my goal there was to have a 15w MagSafe dock that I can charge all 3 of my devices at once. Does that satisfy your criteria of buying someting that helps me 'achieve some goal'?

What a pretentious thing to say.

          • @buckethat: Yeah charging 3 things at once sounds decent, but I do that with a dock I got from bunnings for 15 bucks. Maybe it's not as fast, but how much did yours cost?

Rather than complaining about the reaction many people have to such outrageous pricing, why not ask the question "why does the richest company in the world need to shaft their loyal customers so hard for a charger?". It's a multifaceted question which potentially has something to do with our modern "growth at all costs" mindset. It doesn't cost them that much to make this thing, and it's really just taking advantage of their brand loyalty a bit too much wouldn't you say?

            • @Jackson: You understand that this is a Belkin charger, not Apple. People absolutely do not need to buy this. There are other cheaper alternatives that offer better value. Maybe they dont offer the same 15w charging, but it still works all the same, at much lower price. Could you link the $15 bunnings dock that does the same, I am curious to see the comparison.

              • @buckethat: The 15 dollar bunnings one does the same for me but it's USN based, but it let's me charge 6 devices at once, I don't use it for any Apple products as I don't have any (at least none that I use now)

    • -3

Crazy price just for a 15w wireless charger. Without even USB charging option. Apple tax is strong with this.

  • +2

Great price. Have a couple of these, they're very nice

  • -7

In typical Apple styled fashion charge way over the top yet somehow still manage to swindle some consumers into believing its reasonably priced. Wouldn't pay more than $50 for something like this.

    • Let us know if you can find something equivalent for $50.

      • -1

I already have a 15w 3-in-1 i use for non-apple devices. Don't remember details (and given the stupid negs i cbf checking my order history) but definitely paid well less than $50. Any adequately savvy consumer can find them on ebay or aliexpress (and probably already have as i did).

For those that have access, good guys commercial has this for $99+shopping. Free click and collect of course

    • how do you get access to good guys commercial

  • Does this work for the iPhone XR?

    • +3

Technically it does but only on the base section. The XR does not have the MagSafe magnets built into it so therefore it won’t hold in place on the vertical, magnetised part of the charger. There’s really no point in getting this for the XR, this is designed for iPhone 12 and 13 series.

  • Wireless Charging Is a Disaster Waiting to Happen
    https://debugger.medium.com/wireless-charging-is-a-disaster-…

In my tests, I found that wireless charging used, on average, around 47% more power than a cable.

“If the wireless charging efficiency was only 50%, you would need to double the [73] power plants in order to charge all the batteries.”

    • +1

If everyone in the world switched to wireless charging, it would have a measurable impact on the global power grid.

      Gee thats a big if..

There are some things that companies can do to balance out the excess power wireless chargers use. Manufacturers can design phones to disable wireless charging if their coils aren’t aligned — instead of allowing excessively inefficient charging for the sake of user experience — or design chargers to hold phones so they align properly.

This seems to be in favour of MagSafe?

I do agree though that Wireless charging is a lot less efficient and I hate that the loss of energy results in excessive heat on my phone, but I like the convenience. This article is just a bit over the top. Read through the comments.

Got one a few months ago. The magnet is not strong enough to hold an iphone 13 pro horizontally if your case does not have magnet in it. Vertically it can hold it just because the holder rests on the camera bump.

    • +2

I have the 3in1 with a 12pro max I solved the case magnet issue with these https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/324766595766 Work great on my Elemental case now can magcharge with the case on. Doesn't get hot and holds on without issues.

      • oh cool! never knew these existed. bought one just now for $3.57 just because eBay gave out $10 plus ESR discounts. thanks for the suggestion!

    • If it's resting on camera bump, it's not aligned.

      • luckily for the case that I have now, although it's not completely aligned, my phone still charges.
