Was in the market for a webcam recently and liked the featuers of the Logitech Streamcam, and today it popped up in my Amazon app! Not the cheapest it's ever been but definitely better than the regular pricing of ~$229 in most Aussie retailers. Amazon UK has been pretty good in my experience in speed of delivery. Add about $5 to get the black version.

Pretty good price. This was at EB games a month or so ago for $167 and I got JB Hifi to match it.

If you add the product name to the tags, you'll get this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/logitech-streamcam

These are regularly on sale for $169 locally, though I'm not sure about specific colours.

As a webcam, it needs a lot of tuning with respect to its colour accuracy and even then it's not recommend for content creators or anyone else remotely seeking accuracy.

    • Would I be better off spending that bit extra and getting either the Logitech Brio or Avermedia PW513 (I've read good things about this webcam and some say it's better than the Brio, plus it's a bit cheaper).

      • EposVox has some great comparison and review videos for you, alongside the Elgato Facecam, the Razer Kiyo Pro, and then there's always the C920 or C922.

Paid $167.97 EB Games. Deal was posted here.
Seems like a good cam - even compared to C922 that's elsewhere in the house. Can't see any quality difference. C922 probably better image but guess your paying for the 60fps. The orientation bracket is a bit shit in my opinion. Hit and miss and a flimsy cradle. ihmo.

This is a good cam. No subject separation or fancy lens/sensor shit but awesome speed and sharpness for 1:1 video calls

Currently $183 at HN, black or white

Edit: $229 at Officeworks right now, you can potentially price beat

The iPhone works like a charm with a phone stand

    • what app do you use to use it as a webcam?

  • Usb c only

      Logitech Streamcam 1080p 60fps USB-C Web Camera

    • This is s great thing. Thanks!!

    • Surprisingly difficult to find the adapter to use it with a USB-A port, lots available for the other way around. I had to get one from ebay, couldn't find in local stores.

Looses some older webcam standards so doesn't work with Android. Mic is also weak. Not good for couch video calls.

    • +2

Wouldn't you just use the selfie cam on your phone in that case?

      • +1

It's far more comfortable to put a web cam on the tv and sit on the couch and chat. Plus you can fit the whole family in the frame. The only thing Android TV lacked (when I set mine up a year and a half ago) was proper app support for video call services. No idea if that is still an issue. Duo is good enough for my use.

  • Thanks op, been waiting to start my twitch streaming career.

The first webcam with acceptable quality in my opinion.

It is VERY fussy with with port and adaptor. I tried it with my USB type C 3.1 Gen 2 port (asatek desktop extension card) and it thinks it's a USB 2.0 port and would not let me use 1080p.

Sometimes the computer won't recognise it at all. I had to replug and it would recognise it by only for 45 seconds and stop recognising it.

Finally used it with a USB C Adaptor to a standard USB-A 3.0 port and finally worked fine.

That's just generally describing USB webcams.

      • Lol! This one is particularly fussy.

    • Windows is fuzzy with anything it wants to be fuzzy with.

And you'd think Win11 would be better than Win10… but it's even more problematic. The only explanation I find is marketing strategy to promote purchase of certified products, which they get a cut for.

I have this webcam since more than a year ago and worked perfect in Win10. With Win11 the video works no worries, but the mic got absolutely crapped on. It sounds like a mobile phone with poor reception. I've tried a thousand different drivers (a torture that users shouldn't need to go through) and the only thing that fixes it temporarily is to plug it in a different USB port. But a few minutes later the crap sound comes back again, until I go to a different port.

**Correction: to make it even worst, the problem only happens in MS Teams (which is what I use the cam for). Other utilities work perfectly fine. It's totally software related

  • When i use logotech capture with nice effects like face tracking, my mid level pc starts to struggle with the processor overhead.

Good way to get started with OnlyFans

  • I'm not a huge fan of webcams. Typically they use tiny sensors - 640x360 or 640x480 - and then oversample to achieve their resolution claims which is why the image appears to have low detail at a high resolution.

They also offload significant processing to the system that they're connected to.

    • What about webcams such as the Logitech Brio and Avermedia PW513? Do they also use tiny sensors? I feel if I'm going to spend close to $200, that I may as well look at one of those two instead. What do you guys think?

  • Gonna be a nice present for the webcam model that I've been seeing lately offline.

  • I re-used my existing Sony A6000 and bought this USB HDMI adapter: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001023590193.html
for $12 and bought a dummy battery.
1080p with the best focus that craps on any web cam.

yeah $1k camera shitting on a 200 buck webcam isn’t news

      Really?
I tried my Canon 600D with the Canon webcam software, the image from my Brio looks better. Better resolution, the webcam software is capped at 720 or something

      • The Canon webcam software is rubbish. Get a USB HDMI adaptor @wanj posted and it will be way better. I use a Canon M200 with a f/1.4 lens running through one of those for zoom and Webex. People comment on the quality of my video.

While a mirrorless or DSLR looks a lot better than a webcam, if you invest in decent lighting it will look even better.

        • Get a USB HDMI adaptor @wanj posted and it will be way better.

Depends entirely on the camera model and what it actually puts it out over HDMI.

For a 600D - the "Canon Webcam Utility" (not be confused with the Canon EOS Utility) is the best option available.

I use it on my 550D and it's pretty good - I think it's only 540p or thereabouts, but way better than its HDMI output.

For the record - the Canon website lists cameras compatible with the Webcam Utility, but it turns out a lot more are supported than are listed (eg. my 550D).

For what it's worth - I'm a streaming DJ (vinyl) and I use that in combination with a StreamCam and a GoPro 3 (with HDMI capture).

        • Do you need to get a USB to HDMI capture card like in that link Wanj posted? If so, can you buy them locally in AU, as I am assuming the shipping would take a while to get here from Asia if buying from sites like Aliexpress (haven't ordered from them before, so I'm just guessing shipping would take quite a while - correct me if I am wrong).

          • @Ice009: If you don't want to wait you can get one from amazon for ~$18 with free Prime shipping delivered next week. You could save a few dollars ordering it off eBay, but you'll be waiting longer.

            • @skwashd: Thanks. I also would like to ask, what is a decent DSLR or Mirrorless camera that would be good for a beginner to start with?

Would the Canon M200 that you have be one of those? If so, what do I need to buy to start with? Do I need to buy extra lenses to start with?

I wouldn't mind some recommendations on cameras to buy. Not just for streaming, but also as a camera itself to try and get into photography (I've wanted to get a decent camera for a while now and learn about photography, but just never got around to it). I am a complete beginner, so I wouldn't want anything to expensive to start with.

  • Mine came yesterday! Plugged it in, so glad that lone USB-C port on the back of the PC now has a use! It was night so the room was dim and the image quality was so bleh. Maybe during the day or with more lights on it will look better.
