  • May wanna highlight this is for the old model since the new 2021 model has the exact same name.

    • fair comment, updated

  • What’s the difference between this and the current gen?

    • Other than the design, I think mainly the new one can be used on battery. Not sure of any other features of the new one that can justify the extra cost.

      • I think the one with battery is outdoor version ($329), not indoor ($169)

        • yeah you're right, my bad

  • Save your money I puchased this as the TPLink Kasa has a timeout issue with Home hub integration but Google camera's don't. I used this as a baby monitor camere and honestly the delays on this camera are exceptionally bad also it doesn't play friendly with 2.4/5Ghz combined SSID networks. You may need to disable the 5Ghz just to set it up. Delays at times except 30 seconds!

    • +1

This camera has pretty good reviews on Amazon and other websites..I'm hoping yours is an isolated case as I just purchased one lol

      • I have the same delay problem with my other older gen Nest Cams (i dont have this one). Live feed in both home.nest.com and Nest app is generally a couple seconds behind and some times worst. I have noticed it's better on the Goole Home app though but the Google Home app has its own issues with camera feeds.

Email notifications are always several minutes late now as well. I think they just don't care now coz they've been winding down the Nest site and app for a whil.

I just measured mine with a stopwatch and I get about 2 seconds. I have the previous-gen Nest Cam (the one in this deal).

Email notifications are always several minutes late now as well.

I use app notifications and I've always gotten notifications within about 10 seconds of motion.

          • @eug: I've got the Indoor IQ and the previous gen outdoor wired ones. I remember the feed, emails and app notifications wre pretty much immediate but i noticed it got worst right around when they changed the sub model.

I try to train my dog and catch him barking on it some times and neither of those delays give me the responsiveness i need. I ended up building my own separate dog detection system and run that in parallel.

  • They have been this price for around a month. I picked up a couple at this price and used the recent Latitude Pay offer to get an extra $50 off.
I didn't encounter any issues using a combined 2.4/5Ghz network (although I'm using Google Wifi routers so you'd expect that to work fine!)
The quality of the cameras and footage seems pretty good to me.

The main issue with these is that they only offer 3 hours of video history unless you're willing to pay a monthly subscription.

The configuration options are also very limited in terms defining when you want to recieve motion detection notifications.
I have Arlo cameras outside of my home, and these offer a lot more flexibility with custom modes and the ability to define a time schedule to switch mode.

Google Nest Cameras only offer two modes 'Home' and 'Away' and Google uses presence sensing to automatically determines whether you are Home or Away.
This seems flawed to me. It uses other Nest Devices (e.g. the motion sensors in Nest Protect smoke detectors) to determine when you arrive home. If an intruder broke into my home, this would presumably also cause it so switch to 'Home' mode, therefore skipping notifications that I'd expect to receive when I'm Away to alert me of intruders!
I'd also like to be able to receive motion detection notifications during specific time periods (e.g. between 12am and 6am) regardless of whether I'm Home or Away. As far as I'm aware, there's no to configure this.

    • U need your mobile phone on you to use the home/away assist. Otherwise it would be pointless. The best cameras had better night vision that Arlo. Not sure with the current gen. I have an outdoor Nest, Indoor Nest and Google max hub camera hooked up. I set it only to notify me when a person is detected which works fantastic. Noises and other movement don't notify me, but I can see the history of these categories. I pay $70 a year to have the history. I think most cameras have subscription now. I will test it he delay that others arespeaking of. The live feed seems to work great, but sometimes my notifications are slightly delayed. For the price it's a great option

No, it uses your phone's location. If you're away, your phone would be away so it'll switch to Away mode. It will stay Away until your phone reaches your home zone.

      • Thanks. It was using my Nest Protect sensors in addition to my phone. I've just discovered that I can disable these as home/away triggers.

Any idea if there's a way to configure them to send notifications during specific time periods (e.g. between 12am and 6am) regardless of whether I'm Home or Away?

I haven't tried it, but looking at the individual camera settings page in my Nest app, there's a Schedule option below the Home/Away Assist option. The description says "Set up a schedule to customise when your camera will turn on and off during the day". You can schedule multiple on/off time periods for each day. That sounds like what you're after?
