[Unobtainable Deal] Extra $15 off (or 98% off Items < $15) e.g. Ethernet Cable $0.07 Delivered (OOS) @ Harris Technology eBay

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Greetings everyone, not exactly sure why but as identified in the Ryzen 9 Deal, it seems as though Harris Technology have a coupon which automatically applies on their store which is $15 off with no minimum spend.

However for items under $15, the discount is 98%, therefore there are items such as ethernet cables which are $0.07 delivered. But for items over $15, it applies the full $15 discount.

NOTE: For eBay Plus members, the eBay Plus express shipping comes up as default, make sure to remove this at checkout and change it to free normal shipping otherwise it will charge $15 delivery.

As always, enjoy :)

Mod 11/11 - Order cancellation email sent 7/11, refunds/cancellations via eBay are also coming through in the past days.

Email from HT 7/11:

Dear Customer,

We are writing to you to advise you that a mistake was made by one of our staff members when offering an eBay coupon to one individual customer on 3 November.

Due to inexperience, the $15 coupon was made public and was shared across Ozbargain, when it was originally intended for private use by one person.

We are very sorry for the mistake. Unfortunately, we are unable to fulfill the unexpected orders we received therefore the order/s will be cancelled. We value you as a customer, and will offer you a coupon of $15 for a minimum spend of $100. We hope this good-will gesture is satisfactory to you and we look forward to servicing you again soon.

COUPON: 28QNXRDW7ZDQTCL
Please note: This coupon is for your private use, once only valid from 6-November-21 until 31-December-21

Email from eBay:

We are sorry to let you know that harristechnologyaustralia cancelled your order and mentioned the cancellation reason as 'Something was wrong with the buyer's delivery address.'

You received a refund AU $X.XX back to your original payment method, you don't need to do anything else. It may take 3 to 5 business days for the refund to be completed.

      • exactly, not sure what everyone was expecting.

But I'm not getting a refund for the few dollars I spent apparently and they refuse to cancel my order so what gives?

        • Eh ebay is going to step in if you don't get your money back. I wouldn't be too worried.

          • @HairyChickens: that is true, as you receive written confirmation from HT that they will cancel the order then by law they will be responsible and if not then it will be ebay who needs to kick this type of buyers… i will wait seven days before leaving negative feedback… !

  • +5

    Got the cancellation email.
Now I have to neg this post due to their unacceptable BS reason.

    • You can't as you already upvoted it…

Best you can do is revoke your upvote.

  • +6

As to be expected. Anyone who thought otherwise is new to OzBargain because it happens all the time. Also legal.

Don't forget that seller coupons stack with eBay promotional codes. Worth waiting for the next big eBay sale (Black Friday?).

    • They do? That's good to know

      • Shhhhhh. I should have kept quiet lol.

        • Maybe this worthless coupon may have some value yet…

          • +1

@dbmitch: Except all of their items are like 200% markup so in the end you're not getting a discount even with the $15 off

            • @p1723: Only in eBay sales do you see real deals.

    • Huh never knew thanks for making this clear

    • +2

Tried stacking SHO50FF and this coupon. Doesn't work

You can only apply one voucher code to this purchase.

      • eBay may have stopped it then. Previously it worked.

        • It worked for me when I originally ordered from this deal. $15 + $10 (some eBay Plus coupon) stacked.

  • +6

Since they claimed this is a private coupon, even though it appears to be another generic one dressed up as individual, doees that mean they'll cancel everyone's orders who use this coupon if it gets distributed too? ;-)

    • +1

Luckily for them 15/100 is junk for their store.

      • +1

any item over 100 in thier store can be found anywhere else for 75 bucks anyway lol

        100 - 15 cannot beat 75

  • +1

This is like HT blaming @Doewyy, rather than a "Team Member" mistake that the "Team Leader" normally gets to own.
The excuse should be "Due to lack of training by Team Leader……"

    • -2

Why haven't you demanded we go to the ACCC yet Karen? 🤣🤣

      • -1

        /s to the negger.

ACCC wouldn't investigate this. Nothing illegal here.

  • +8

anyone not get their refund? got the cancellation email but no refund

    • Still waiting for Paypal's refund confirmation email. So far I only got the cancellation email from HT.

    • +4

the “$15 off $100 coupon” email isn’t an official cancellation email - it’s just like a standard private ebay message

the real cancellation email is when ebay sends you an email titled “your order was cancelled” and the first line reads “the seller sent you a refund”

      • +2

I will tell you what you can use my 9 cancellations $$$$$$ to buy a Maccas cone .
It won't buy more than that .

        • Looks like I'll be getting a cone then xD. Oh wait that's too $$

    • Lol, over here just the email. No cancellation nor refund.

Looks like unless you remember to open a PayPal case to get your money back, they're not going to do anything.

I have had AliExpress sellers do the same thing to not receive cancellation consequences. (Because more likely than not, the buyer forgets about a $3 purchase that didn't arrive after 3 months)

  • +3

I have got the cancellation email as well. No refund yet!!! I think they are taking their time sorting out which order to cancel since there could be some profitable orders.

    • +1

So they can reduce their negs. They know haha

    • +1

Getting a coupon sent to you isn't a cancellation email.

    • well i got a 22 buck cpu fan so its not just cents on their profits, but I doubt ill even get that.

  • +2

& the coupon is still being advertised on ebay

    • Better tell eBay to remove it. Hopefully the weekend team (if any) are able to do it. Or you know wait until a business day? 😉

    • Who is the seller ?

      Round 2 :)

  • +2

We can also comment on HT's Facebook page and show HT whether you like, love, care or angry about how HT handles the Ebay situation.

    https://www.facebook.com/harristechAU

    • +2

No point doing facebook posts, they can easily delete them.
Do Google Reviews and make sure you post a negative feedback.

Google Reviews they cannot remove without ALOT of effort (e.g. going to court)
Negative Feedback is very difficult for them to remove also unless the contents of the negative review is proven "false". Just stick to the facts and they cant remove it.

      • agreed, You can get facebook to do anything as long as you pay enough, post ads, promote pages, even remove comments you choose.

        what a joke Zucc.

  • I wonder if eBay themselves will get involved…..

$5 oopsies coupon for the inconvience? Probs not

    • +3

      Doubt it.

If it was a coupon issued by eBay, you’d probably expect something similar to what happened with Adidas and PLUSPAPA, especially when Adidas cancelled orders due to “issue with buyer’s address” (even though that clearly was not the actual reason Adidas was cancelling orders).

However, the coupon in this deal was a coupon issued by the seller, so eBay will (most likely) wash their hands of it and say it was 100% the seller’s fault (and let’s be honest, it is 100% the seller’s fault).

  • +10

Inexperience wasn’t the issue. It was most likely internal miscommunication by management, and when shit hit the fan they threw an intern under the bus and made them the scapegoat.

    Great company to work for.

Hope it’s share price drops by $15.

Also, I only ordered 8 items, they sent bombarded my inbox with 15 of those generic cancellation emails. The hell!?

    • +11

Honestly, they could have just said it was a genuine mistake and everything would have been fine and dandy. Half of us knew and were expecting it. Their lie made the situation a whole lot worse.

    • +6

I wouldn't even be surprised if the intern doesn't even exist…

    • Most people will try to save face. Dozens of similar deals over the years have proven.

  • Not unexpected that the orders wont be fulfilled. Odd that they offer a story about someone inexperienced and one customer, etc.

  • +7

Some people defending this multi-million company as if they own it lol. Honestly, do any of you own shares to HT?

    • +3

I shorted the HT shares which is why inam asking everyone who is pi$$ed off to post a neg feedback so we can absolutely tank their feedback rating.

      • this company is public-listed? WOW

  • +6

Lol you can keep your crappy $15 off $100 coupon HT but prepare for the neg wrath coming

  • +6

Be sure to leave your thought on the Google review page lol

    • +5

Be sure to include the generic coupon as part of the review too

  • +6

I think that since some of us have had our items shipped proves it's not a one off code for an individual.
Otherwise they would have cancelled all orders, not just the ones that were a loss.

    • +1

Were the only ones that shipped over a certain cost?

    • +1

I assume they shipped the ones that made them profit or needed to get rid of.

    • I actually bought something that was $45 and it wasn’t shipped -.-

  • +3

Hah. Yet to see my order cancelled, but got the email which specifically named OZB.
I wonder if this number of cancelled orders (and the negs) will result in some kind of retribution from ebay?
If I recall correctly the discount got automatically applied at check out.

    • This code was automatically applied. Everyone that checked out an item and had ebay automatically apply the code did nothing to game the system.

The generic summary is: The ebay store gave a discount and then cancelled the order.

  • They didn't honour my order.

got the generic PR stunt $15 voucher generic code.

But I didn't get a refund? How do I get a refund? I can't see any option to raise a refund back to my paypal?

Edit: I understand if the code was for an individual and it was sent out to the masses, I wouldn't be so annoyed. But I don't understand and will not support a business that has a generic universal code that has a public end date to use on their website for everyone to use, and when it goes viral, they suddenly backtrack and blame it on someone as if it wasn't an intentional discount from the beginning and blamed it as a once off code. But the ironic thing is that their new $15 voucher for orders 100 and over is generic aswell.

    • My summary is they claim they made a mistake with a generic code instead of a personized code .
Then they fixed the mistake up by sending a personized code that is generic that is not a mistake .

LOL Who is the Champ running their show hehe :)

      • +2

        Champ? More like a chump

      • +2

The original generic code was no mistake at all, looking at the comments and how it was set up in eBay. If it was a personal code, the customer has to enter it manually.

I get unique, account-bound eBay codes all the time and I have to enter the code manually. Even the AFTERPAY10 code you have to enter manually, there must be an automatic option in eBay for HT to apply the code automatically, as it did it for me.

The email with the new code state: "Please note: This coupon is for your private use, once only valid from 6-November-21 until 31-December-21"…… but it's a generic code "28QNXRDW7ZDQTCL"

So either they don't know or don't want to give unique codes or eBay doesn't give them an option. Hence the same code is being used for everyone…….

The staff member should have read Ozbargains replies, now they're in for alot of negative reviews and reputation.

Edit: It really doesn't make sense the original code was for 1 person, if it was then they would have not set it up in their eBay store with terms and conditions. It would have been an e-mail like the code we got. No way a rep would be that dumb to set up a store wide code and not issue the code to 1 customer and set it up the way they did in their ebay store.

        • -1

I don't think its easy to produce 1000+ unique codes on ebay easily as compared to having a coupon direct on their website. It would be an absolute clutter and would take many hours to produce and send them individually to each sale. Sure they could have worded it better but its a pretty difficult task. I wouldn't know a program that can produce it in mass and send to each sale on ebay

          • +2

@aerona: I don't expect it either. It would be such a headache and it's not worth it. But the e-mail did more PR damage than good. The e-mail implies the code was unique and the the code of random letters and numbers implies it's unique to me.

    • You wait until you get the cancellation email and they start issuing refunds. I think they'll wait until Monday, a business day to start. As opposed to a weekend?

  • +3

Even as someone who got their order honoured, I'm not exactly thrilled with what HT is trying to pull off here.

    • First, pick if you're going to cancel all the orders, or none of them.
As previous comments suggest, they could have gone through with orders that still made them a buck - or as a method to clear out shop.

    • Second, it's okay just to simply apologise and refund the cancelled orders.
Compensation is the cherry on top - but don't try and use this situation to segue into your supposed original promotion.

This whole situation makes HT feel all the more disingenuous and I'll definitely be reevaluating whether or not there will be a next time with them.

    • What did you order?

      • Some TP-Link wifi extender

    • +5

I guess HT has gotten some change of management. They have been around for ages, and I remember they were like the "premium" computer parts reseller. And it would always be great shopping here.

But now years later, their prices aren't anywhere near competitive, even Scorptec which I viewed to be a slightly more "premium" reseller has kept up with the times and made themselves very competitive with minimal markup for factoring in their great customer service.

Looking at all the products people bought and what was on sale below $40, they all looked like $2 shop items for 10 times the cost!

Now to slap all their customer's in the face, they give some BS reason and instead of apologizing they send a email with the subject line "$15 eBay voucher for a minimum spend of $100", which was very insincere. Not sure where did their head of marketing and PR graduate from, but all of this is a lesson on what NOT to do when your company f's up.

Maybe in a few days time, they will apologize for the insincere email and blame it on a graduate who drafted it and didn't get it reviewed before sending it!

    • Lets be honest, you were never going to buy from them anyway in the future

      • Interestingly enough, I did buy something from them earlier this year. Appears that will be the last time I will purchase with them.

But I will make sure everybody knows about it, and hopefully steer people away from purchasing from them.

        • -1

You will be back when there's a good deal like everyone else. Its just how it works

          • @aerona: First you say he was never going to buy from them in the future, the next you say he will buy when there's a good deal.

Doesn't seem like you mean what you say… you don't work for HT do you?

            • -4

@odysseus: This whole thread can be summarised with this video

              https://youtu.be/xKxviqsg9DY

If you neg this comment, its because you are the old man in this situation lol. Think about it.

              • @aerona: I think most people posting dont see the situation as that video. Reading the comments, people are upset by the tactic of using the intern and single customer code as an excuse for what looks like an oversight of deal/code minimum spend implementation.

  • How did they know it was posted on ozbargain?

    • If they suddenly get thousands of orders I'm sure they'd know it was posted here

    • +2

They share deals all the time. On the topic of eBay there's half a dozen employees active here too.

    • If we take their name Harris "Technologies" as being true, then they could easily see a influx of HTTP Referrers from Ozbargain, as when you click any links it usually would send the referrer details.

But I am guessing they weren't that savvy, so it was probably one of their other employees which alerted them to this post. Maybe they should alert their management about how badly this was handled!

      • +1

But would ebay share information on how people reach their market within ebay?

        • +1

No. But as above they have employees here, including the one linked above who was only on 4.5 hours ago. So they're aware when something HT is posted here.

  • +5

going to neg the shit out of them /flex

  • +3

Same 7 Negs coming for them plus a Google review

  • +1

Looks like they may need another capital raise soon…based on all the left over $2 store stock they have in inventory which some of us OzBargainers could have helped them clean out. What a PR nightmare that’s brewing…

    • Thought someone had already done that in the recent reviews. Then read the date: 26 Aug. Hope they don't try the same here…

"Ordered from this company on eBay. Decided they wouldn't deliver the item and refunded the money. Problem was they reported me as seeking the refund and cancelling the order. I did not. When asked about this they said it was "just a mistake in the way it was cancelled in eBay". Stay away from this company."

      Must be another "intern" mistake.

  • +1

Their google reviews is starting to tumble: https://g.page/harristechAU?share

  • +3

After cancelling some of my orders, they also had the cheek to not accept my request to cancel an order!!!

    • +7

Don't cancel, let them cancel and leave a review.

      • It was an order I accidentally paid full price as the voucher hadn’t applied :p

      • -1

Inb4 they don't cancel and they just take your money

  • +1

Anyone received a refund as yet?

    • no. but planning to do a chargeback instead of a refund via ebay. There should be an associated merchant cost.

      • I think with Paypal if the sellers do not contest the chargeback there is no additional cost to them. Not sure how about the ebay managed payment though.

      • How does the chargeback work?

        • +2

Assuming you have paid by credit. HT took the money, and did not request for cancellation of item/no refund.

You file a claim with your CC issuer, that goods not supplied for payment made.

So your CC issuer will charge back against the merchant provider (HT's bank).

I suspect the cost for HT via chargeback wont be cheap (more than $15 HT is saving). Westpac takes $33 per chargeback https://www.westpac.com.au/content/dam/public/wbc/documents/…

I find HT very shonky in this instance:
          1. lied about why orders not honuored in email
          2. continue to sit on money paid expect buyers to request cancel to order

          • @[Deactivated]: never done this before, i thought if i did something like this then CC provider would cancel credit card or something like that

      • +6

They already showed me how trustworthy they were and I don't really want more people to test that.

  • Any one else having issues with ebay refunds in general? Dan Andrews cancelled my order on ebay Tuesday 2nd. Received both a cancellation email and refund email but status on ebay doesn't reflect this and no refund received.

  • +3

I bought something just under $40. In addition to the $15 off coupon I also used the AfterPay $10 coupon so ended up paying $15 out of pocket. My item was shipped and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
