[Unobtainable Deal] Extra $15 off (or 98% off Items < $15) e.g. Ethernet Cable $0.07 Delivered (OOS) @ Harris Technology eBay

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Greetings everyone, not exactly sure why but as identified in the Ryzen 9 Deal, it seems as though Harris Technology have a coupon which automatically applies on their store which is $15 off with no minimum spend.

However for items under $15, the discount is 98%, therefore there are items such as ethernet cables which are $0.07 delivered. But for items over $15, it applies the full $15 discount.

NOTE: For eBay Plus members, the eBay Plus express shipping comes up as default, make sure to remove this at checkout and change it to free normal shipping otherwise it will charge $15 delivery.

As always, enjoy :)

Email from HT 7/11:

Dear Customer,

We are writing to you to advise you that a mistake was made by one of our staff members when offering an eBay coupon to one individual customer on 3 November.

    • Oh my god I just looked at their eBay reviews and this has become the new latest copypasta LOL

  • +3

Items were marked as sent, now order is cancelled. On top of their previous lies, this proves they can't be trusted with order status of item.

  • +5

For those not knowing where to provide your feedback - https://www.ebay.com.au/fdbk/leave_feedback

    • +5

If that doesn't work, another poster posted this earlier: https://www.ebay.com.au/fdbk/leave_feedback?filter=giver_rol…

Lets make sure that people are reading this and neg their rear ends!

Teaches them not to treat their customers as if we have no common sense, first the cover up, now the attempt to circumvent the eBay Feedback systems by using the incorrect cancellation reasoning.

      • Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't see that comment.

        • commenting to make these links visible. Thanks for posting these!

      • Thanks for the links - have added to the negative feedback.

  • Now they have 100 negative feedback (in the last month) at 99% positive

  • Yup, order just got cancelled. Negging.

  • Liars. Something was wrong with the buyer's delivery address was the reason given by eBay for the cancellation.

  • +6

Everyone… Negative feedback is open today…. Go and give that before they make it difficult to provide one.

    • +6

Already done. Reported the seller to eBay too.

  • I forgot about this deal and earnestly used https://ocsnext.ebay.com.au/ocs/chat to try and resolve the issue with my address just in case future orders were cancelled. The agent all but told me it was screw-y ie there's nothing wrong with your address, they just don't deliver to… a central Perth suburb…, don't use that seller to re-order, I have reported their behavior, you should leave a review.

I'd suggest doing the same. The more load the eBay system goes under to deal with this the more likely they are to actually do something about it. I mean, they won't, but it's more likely.

  • -2

@doweyy I hope you don't feel bad/guilty about this haha. This isn't your fault.

  • I was checking the HT feedback page to see whether my (negative) review appeared on there, and I couldn't help but notice this on the page:

One of eBay's most reputable sellers.
    Consistently delivers outstanding customer service.

I guess we'll see how long that remains on their feedback page.

    • -2

Likely wont change. Even full 6k orders leave a negative feedback wont dent the overall score….

      • +1

        Won't dent!!
If all 6000 leave feedback it would drop from 98.7% to 72.2%

      • +3

It was 99 before the feedback gates opened, it dropped to 98.8 when I left my feedback and it is now 98.6 so it is making a dent.

        • +1

Now 97.9 and 420 negative for the month.

    • The next review date will be 20 Nov 2021, let's see if HT can still keep their status.

      • +1

Follow by ASX announcement for voluntary administration on 21st Nov citing impact from OzB?

  • +2

200+ negative reviews only. I think OzB can do better!

    • We sure can. 6000+ orders, not even 5% left negative feedback.

      • +1

Looks like eBay f-ing around with buyer's ability to leave feedback.

Fixed it. Managed to leave a negative feedback.

  • +1

OK, who tried to get 28 (7x4packs) dusters for almost free and left 7 neg reviews!? 😂

    • Lol… this has started… HT deserves this (which I have initially thought -ve feedback for genuine mistake is unfair to the seller) after making up BS excuse.

      • +1

If they just admitted it was them, I would have been fine, but they withheld refunds still, and then used the "the buyer is the issue' excuse, so they lost me.

  • +2

Is eBay f-ing around with the purchased item history or a genuine glitch? HT purcahse somehow disappeared from my purchase history.

Gonna capture screenshot in preparation for a ACCC complaint that eBay is manipuating feedback. Likely have a case against eBay and HT if this is what they are doing.

    • after i lodged a negative feedback on HT same thing happened to me and all my purchase history disappeared… Ebay playing game as well.. IMO.

Thank you for contacting eBay regarding the "Handy Hardware® 6PCE Painters Tape Blue Interior/Exterior Easy Peel 48mm x 10m "(ITEM-185105513559) which you purchased from the seller "harristechnologyaustralia". Rest assured, I am glad to assist you regarding the same.

First of all, I really appreciate you for leaving a feedback for the seller letting the world know about your experience. I understand that you have been a member since 2002 and living at the current address for 7 years, never had an issue with address. I can see that seller has cancelled the transaction without your consent with the reason "Address Issues".

I can understand how you must be feeling about this situation wherein you purchase an item in good faith and then the seller chooses to not abide by their contract. We take seller non-compliance very seriously and such behaviour is not condoned here at eBay. Please be assured that we do not condone this kind of selling behaviour as when a buyer purchases an item on eBay, the seller and buyer have entered a contract that both members are expected to honour.

Let me explain how we track and restrict such sellers on eBay:

If transactions cancelled by sellers, but not requested by buyers are counted as seller cancelled transactions. These will then be included in seller's defect rate which directly impacts their Selling Performance on eBay. This in turn helps us keep a track of non compliant sellers and take necessary actions against them.

We always recommend buyers to report an item and the seller for not following policy, please see the steps below:

    1. Please go to the listing page of the item and scroll down.

    2. Just above Right Side of the "Description and Postage and Payments" you can find and option in Blue Colour "Report Item".

    3. Once you click on this you will get instructions and options.

    4. Select an appropriate option and report this item.

Travis , I want to share that on 20th of every month, we evaluate seller’s performance based on the transactions, which were not successful. This helps buyers to see the seller’s selling practices on eBay. This surely is beneficial for all the buyers before they purchase an item from any seller.

I trust the above information will be helpful. We hope you will be able to find a similar deal elsewhere

    • I can see under Returns and cancelled orders -> More actions -> Appeal Case?

      • Yes. That's the one. Just say you never requested a cancellation and your address is fine as you have never had a problem with other items.

        • I don't have those options, it does mention that the seller has updated the listing.

      • Does anyone reckon it's worth the time to contact eBay to see if we can still get the items or an eBay coupon lmao?

Going to do everything people mentioned here during the weekend when I have some time.

We can get to 72% people!

    • +1

this is very good information you provided here. as it says "If transactions cancelled by sellers, but not requested by buyers are counted as seller cancelled transactions. These will then be included in seller's defect rate which directly impacts their Selling Performance on eBay. This in turn helps us keep a track of non compliant sellers and take necessary actions against them.

I won't cancel my transaction but instead i will report item now as above as they have not posted product neither provided refund. i already reported seller to ebay.

    Hi everyone on OzBargain,

We have read all the comments and are sincerely sorry for this to be happened. We also understand that you may be dissatisfied with the outcome and the refund process so we would like to make the statement below to explain:

Harris Technology wishes to explain that an internal administrative error has resulted in the cancellation of approximately 6,000 eBay customer orders.

The incident occurred when a $15 promotional coupon for Harris Technology products listed on eBay, which was meant for a one-time use by one customer only, was inadvertently not made ‘unique’ to that customer enabling it to be used generally. With that being said, Harris Technology acknowledges that the voucher error resulted from an internal company mistake and not that of eBay or its customers.

Upon discovery of the administrative error, Harris Technology cancelled the discount coupon and notified all customers who had used it that their orders were cancelled. As part of the seller cancellation process on these affected orders, Harris Technology used the ‘Buyers Address’ checkbox as the reason for cancelling the order as there was no voucher-related option.

Harris Technology has been in regular communication with eBay to ensure affected customers would have their purchase refunded and these have now been processed.

Measures have been taken to ensure the mistake does not occur again.

All customers that had an order cancelled after using the promotional voucher have been offered a new $15 discount voucher which can be applied to purchases over $100 Valid till 31 Dec 2021

    Regards
    Harris Technology

    • $15 discount voucher which can be applied to purchases over $100

so generous! can't wait to see your black friday deals!!

      • -4

        15% off isn't that bad…

        • We wish it was a 15% not a $15 off coupon code error…

    • +8

Marked item as shipped but cancels a week later, so another administrative error or a lie? Dont take us for a fool, if its not posted out why mark it as such? Sounds dodgy to me.

      • -5

        Thanks for the comment.
We have several teams working on this incident, however, the mark as shipped was not a lie but a mistake again. Imagining there're suddenly hundreds and thousands of orders coming and most of them needed attention. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    • +12

      Hi Harris Tech,

The reason you are getting this feedback / outage is how you handled the mistake.
The coupon code was made avalaible on eBay, adertised on eBay and auto applied the the checkout of eBay.

You then mention in your email to all that the coupon code was for one person, this is incorrect for the reasons above, OzBargain should never have been mentioned.
To then cancel the orders using sellers address is was icing on the cake, we are eBay sellers too and this was a way for HT to limint the damage and get out of negitaive feedback, this pushes the cancellation to us users at no fault of our own.

Own the mistake, don't blame OzBargain and don't put the cancellation onto the users "incorrect address"

The goodwill you have lost will be far larger than any honering $15 discount.
I hope you respond and I hope HT have learnt something from this miss.

      • -6

        Thanks for the comment.
We have learned a lot from this incident and we have acknowledged it was an internal administrative error in the statement.
The code went viral after a post here so we were just trying to clarify the situation in the very first email. Please don't take it personal and think we were blaming OzBargain. It was our fault to make the coupon code error in the very first place, not OzBargain where it was shared. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

        • +1

          A very generic robotic reply

      • Does it any do any damage to a buyer for incorrect address though?

    • +7

I'm not sure that a $15 per order was worth destroying the reputation of your business, i'm sure that many of your share holders must now be very concerned and worried about their investments because of the now possible down-turn in future sales! and the real possible chance of the Harris Technology share price now taking a nose dive

People never forget the name of a business that does wrong by them and when they do not own up for their own mistakes, to make matters even worse your company then blames the people with the excuse that they gave you a false delivery address and that was the reason why you cancelled their orders ( that reason was a lie and you know it ) and has now made a bad situation even worse for you!

The people running Harris Technology clearly have NO integrity to do the ''right thing'' when mistakes are made and would rather scapegoat it and BLAME everyone else > it would of been much cheaper in the long run to just honour the sales, cut your losses and except your mistake and learn from it … you would've had so many GOOD reviews, such great advertising and exposure with that $15 sweetener! Harris Technology would of gained so many more new customers who would've started to purchased from you in the future, but now you have lost them FOR EVER and have given your business a shocking reputation and to not be trusted … You still have a early chance to repair all this damage by turning a bad situation into a positive one, by coming good and honouring all the sales you cancelled regardless of the price as most people can be forgiving, just saying!

      • -4

        Thanks for the comment.
We have learned a lot from this incident and we have acknowledged it was an internal administrative error that in the statement.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    • +5

The buyer's address reason is also a cop out.
They should have used 'The item is out of stock' because technically the item with the coupon isnt available…..

But of course they didnt use that reason because it would affect their seller performance.

Also they now say on Ozbargain website that they don't blame it on anyone. But clearly in the emails sent from HT during the debacle said 'posted on Ozbargain'.

They cant get their story straight at all. Is it our fault or isnt? We should get a apology email for them initially blaming it on Ozbargain, when it isnt true since the coupon was automatically applied and widely advertised on all their listings.

      • +5

And guess what? They told eBay that an employee posted it on ozbargain! They changed their story multiple times. They even lied to eBay just to make them forgiving of the situation and not mark their seller performance

        • -4

          Thanks for the comment
We have never said this to eBay. where's the source from? It was an internal administrative error and we have acknowledged that in the statement.

          • +2

@HTDealAdmin: Source from eBay customer support email

            • -1

@jayboi: It was never true, it was a coupon from HT not from eBay. It was an internal administrative mistake either because lacking of communication, lacking of crosschecking, and lacking of experience in setting up coupon and so forth; not OzBargain where it was shared nor to anyone who shared it.

              • +2

@HTDealAdmin: It was clear in the HT email 'Due to inexperience, the $15 coupon was made public and was shared across Ozbargain'.

Yes it was shared on Ozbargain however it was shared on ALL your ebay products on your ebay store. So why did HT try to pass it off as being Ozbargained, they could have left this community out of it. This was a obvious tactic in trying to subtlety shift the blame.

      • -2

        Thanks for the comment.
It was an internal administrative error and we have acknowledged that in the statement. We are investigating now why an one-time use code will be displayed publicly on eBay. Overall, it was a genuine mistake that we made internally. We are truly sorry for this.
The cancellation reason was selected because we cannot find "Coupon Error" , if there's an "Other-Specify" cancellation reason we will definitely go with that reason. So it's not we want to lie to a customer, it's because there's no this option. Even we choose "out of stock" as the reason it will be consider as a "lie" too. It was not our intent to snowball the situation, we are trying our best to make-up the mistake.

        • +2

How bout responding to why you marked item as shipped when its not?

        • +4

It’s quite obvious that you chose the “buyer address was incorrect” because that doesn’t affect your seller performance because if you chose “item out of stock” then it will affect the seller performance, you would have a lot less negativity if you chose that instead because you were willing to take the hit on seller performance for your own mistakes

          • -2

@jayboi: The cancellation reason was selected because we cannot find "Coupon Error" , if there's an "Other-Specify" cancellation reason we will definitely go with that reason. So it's not we want to lie to a customer, it's because there's no this option. Even we choose "out of stock" as the reason it will be consider as a "lie" too.
We are not trying to avoid the negative reviews (it was our mistake in the first place). You may still leave a review even we choose the cancel order because of address.

            • +3

@HTDealAdmin: you're still here lying. The reason buyers address was chosen because it doesn't affect your sellers account even when you're here desperately trying to stop the negative feedback on ebay you're STILL LYING TO EVERYONE
no surprise really with who owns the company now and lying

            • +2

@HTDealAdmin: HT Admin, you are still lying to us.
There is a reason you choose buyer address issue rather than out of stock.

One effects your seller rating and one does not.
I think you thought you were being clever and now we've called it out for what it is

    • +5

I think you would have had a better response if you had replied here as soon as possible with your apology and points of rectification. The responses you've taken seem to be haphazard, leading to more backlash.

If something happens like this in the future, communication is paramount.

      • -8

We have learned a lot from this incident and we have acknowledged it was an internal administrative error that in the statement. Sorry for all of this again.

        • +2

I am willing to believe that it was an administrative error.

However if everybody slowly read into all their communications they have continously put in smoke screens to try to shift the blame.

Why even bother mentioning ozbargain in the apology email?

A simple email of 'apologies we screwed up, we accidentally missed the minimum spend condition' would have sufficed.

We on Ozbargain understand when going into the deal that it may not be honoured. We aren't pissed off because HT didnt honor the orders, we are pissed because of the dishonest and the PR spin you guys are putting on for show.

KISS: Keep it simple stupid, no smoke screens, no PR spin, just a simple sorry would suffice.

          • -8

@lplau: Yes, we have learned a lot from this incident and we have acknowledged it was an internal administrative error in the statement. • +7

@HTDealAdmin: Just FYI if a company makes a genuine mistake and doesn't give me any compensation I am okay with it.

The problem for me is you lied to protect your seller rating blaming seller address problems… Shame on you. Went from a positive/neutral to a straight up negative feedback and loss of another customer.

          • -6

            @lplau: Sincerely apologize.

            • +6

@HTDealAdmin: Would you like to clarify why you chose "Incorrect Address" rather than "Out of stock"
It looks like you have been avoiding this quetsion, it has been asked about 3 or 4 times.

Saying both are incorrect is correct is a cop out.

    • New $15 discount voucher which can be applied to purchases over $100

      Much generous.

      You've lost your Ozbargain badge.

  • +14

HTDealAdmin, since my address is fine and hasnt changed for 35 years, will you be now shipping my item?

  • +12

What I think actually happened were:
    1. HT created a promotion at eBay with code DISCOUNT15A and advertised eBay wide. However, HT just forgot to add a condition (only for spending $100).
    2. HT found out the omission of condition and LIED about it being a "…one-time use by one customer only…"? (eBay should know the truth as there should be correspondences between HT and eBay)
    3. HT doesn't want to affect its' seller rating so it use the reason of "buyer's address invalid" instead of seller error like "out of stock". Yet another LIE.
    4. And after HT found out the feedback tanked, HT then started to do something by posting here. Yet it still repeats its LIES.

    • +2

Sounds about right on all fronts.

A good example of how to handle a code issue is how boozebud responded to their code issue.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/619630?page=1#comment

They used it as a great opportunity to spin this negative into a positive experience, and even got some additional business I'm sure.

Ht didn't even have to honour this obvious error code either as part of their response just have a much better response.

    • +2

Good summary. If this is true HT really f’d up their integrity in business.

  • +3

Should have just given everyone a one-time $5 off because you have almost zero items below $5. Would increase your revenue and cost you 1/3 of the expense.

    • +2

Yea a $5 coupon would feel more genuine as a 'sorry for our mistake' and as you pointed out they dont have many items close to $5.

Their $15 with $100 spending makes it feel like bait and switch. And definitely leaves sour tastes in everybody's mouth.

HT needs to get a better damage control and marketing staff…..

  • +3

Lol… this just gets better with HT's sub par PR work.
