This seems like a good deal, but its quite an old model now.
Can anyone comment if there's any deal breakers?

Currently wearing an Amazfit Pace so just about anything will be an upgrade.

I'm still wearing my FR935, which is a plastic Fenix5 (more or less).
I've had zero issues with it for the several years I've been running it. The wrist based HRM has crazing in the resin which was common with that generation of the monitor (which this also uses). Doesn't appear to really affect performance, just doesn't look nice when I take it off?

Other considerations are: No onboard music, no garmin pay… these were added in the 5plus and subsequent models.
If you don't care about that (and I've never missed either), this is a good price for a fantastic bit of kit even if it's a bit dated, IMO.

OMG… just realised it's the Sapphire version too. That's amazing.

+1 on this description. I've had a Fenix 5 for a while now and it's still going strong. I carry my phone with me whenever I exercise so I don't mind that there's no onboard music or Garmin Pay. At this price you won't find a better fitness smartwatch.

        • Also no inbuilt mapping capability which they added in the 5x as well.

Personally, I'd hold off for a 5x or newer model (with Sapphire), but I'm still sitting on a Fenix 3 Sapphire/HR and the 5 doesn't add much for me.

    • Been using the fenix 5s since it came out. Love it!

Only downside for me is I can't load music on it and no garmin pay. They also aren't upgrading the software for the fenix 5 anymore so the fancy upgrades are not available, e.g. body battery.

    • I've done a fair bit of data comparison and the Fenix 5 is pretty loose for HRM and GPS data compared to the Fenix 6. It's good enough against itself in a relative sense but if you want better data the 6 is the way to go. This will still be better than what you've got and the 5 is still fine and getting updates.

  • Almost like a price error as the US Amazon has it for $449 USD

  • I can't see anywhere the heart rate strap is included???

    • Performer bundle = Tri strap included…

      • Got ya. Was tempted but sticking with my Vivoactive 3. Better screen, touchscreen, Garmin pay…and does what I want.

Seems like an amazing deal considering hrm tri always $100+

The watch alone is probably worth the money if you are interested in tri

  • Thanks! bought one

I've resisted the inner ozbargainer for a while, but have been wanting a running/exercise watch for a while now. Couldn't help myself haha.

Guess being Amazon directly, returns will be easy if I change my mind haha

    • haha

this purchase will push you to exercise more,
Particularly with the tri hrm (run more, swim more, cycle more),
Else you'll waste this watch and hrm

      • I'll use it mainly for running.

  • OOS

    • shows 1 left in stock for me

Amazon had the vivoactive 4 for 296 a few weeks ago and I bought that, I expect it to come down again for black Friday.
This is an old watch, but probably still great for the price.

It's also almost double the weight of the vivoactive which could be really annoying for some.

Out of stock and price showing $1,421.70 from Amazon US now lol

  • Does it have WearOS on?

  • +3

Noooooooooooo. I missed out. I literally have been looking at garmin watches for months waiting for a deal and this would've been perfect haha. Thanks anyway for the post OP

I am seeing $1472 now…. Deal must be over

    • Party is over but taking away the pain to think about if to buy or not. Always wanted a Garmin but wearing a Polar Ignite 2 at the moment for my purpose ( heart rate, easy wear and not too many options I wouldn’t use anyway).

      • this was a mad deal if you are into running and dont need offline music, you get a chest HR strap as well which is almost $100 on its own, must have been a price error

        • Yeah I reckon it was. Amazon US had just the watch itself for $449 ($607.31 AUD) but that's a direct convert and it usually costs more than that in Aus.

I decided to get one based on the HR strap being close to half the value of the watch itself and I had been looking at a running watch for a while.

          • @butterbuts: if you are serious about running you need a HR strap anyway, hence this deal is no brainer, not to mention sapphire model
only downer is no music which is a great feature - specially on those long runs :)

            • @botchie: I've previously had a 245music which I used to train for the Gold Coast marathon (which got cancelled haha). I liked it, but the GPS was a bit annoying with not locking on and the music really drained the battery. It also died on me and I returned but didn't bother getting another as I didn't take running as serious for a while.

I have a flipbelt which I chuck my phone and a few other things in, so music and payment method is taken care of.

              • @butterbuts: Yeah I upgraded from an old 235 to Fenix 6 few months ago, it's 10 times better, GPS will lock on instantly , and battery with music on lasts me a week , I couldn't go back but if you got yours sorted this is a mad deal , not much difference between Fenix 5 and 6 as well , plus this deal you get saphire glass, hope they honor it !

  • Dont worry, you can still get one from Gumtree for $800. Garmin users tend to be the most deluded sellers on gumtree that i've come across.

  • My order was dispatched this arvo

  • Can't comment on this specific bundle, but I've always been impressed with Garmin support. I had initially bought a Garmin vivoactive HR about 4 years ago now which has a swim tracking function, 50m water resistance.

1st watch (vivoactive HR): Wore the watch in the kiddie pool, ankle deep water and the screen started ghosting. It was about a month out of the warranty period. Watch was replaced with no questions.

2nd watch (vivoactive HR): About another 15 months later, same thing happened from a different pool. Watch replaced again.

3rd watch (vivoactive HR): Vibration motor died after about 3 months. Watch replaced and upgraded to a vivoactive 3.

4th watch (vivoactive 3): Still going after about 18 months.

Not sure what that says about the build quality :) but at least the customer service has been fantastic. I have no hesitation buying another Garmin watch in the future.
