Telstra $300 Pre-Paid SIM Starter Kit for $232.75 Delivered @ auditech_online eBay

200
SHO50FF

Use code 'SHO50FF' to get the 5% discount, I don't believe this code is targeted but could be wrong.

From a quick browse here this is close to the lowest price posted for this starter pack and from reading on the forum telstra esims are now also working for prepaid so hope it helps someone.

It also seems that you will get 200GB instead of the 150GB if you are a 'new customer', so either coming from a different carrier or porting should also work.

  • Says it is for new customers only, which is a shame as my wife's phone will need to be recharged soon.

    • +1

Port out then port in again.

      • Please explain Hawkeye?

        • +1

Telstra will see your wife as a new customer if you port her service to another provider for any length of time. You could port her to a $2 SIM without a recharge or you could port her to a starter kit for a month.

            @sween64: Thanks Sween

@sween64: or get a new wife?

          • @sween64: Does this still work? Use to do this with the plans for the $500/$400 gift cards and heard they upped the time from 30 days wait to 90 recently?

            • +1

@Figure8: I imagine the checks for gift cards and contracts is quite different. This is a Starter Kit that includes a SIM and credit that is used to activate a new service and can be used to port an existing number over.

              • @sween64: I figure when porting over its the same check but who knows, hopefully you're right and I'm wrong on this

            • @Figure8: That's for post paid - you should be fine for prepaid.

          • +1

@sween64: If you port to an unassociated company (ie telstra > optus or tpg/voda and vice versa), it tends to be a lot quicker with minimal fuss. I've done multiple ports in the last few years Telstra > optus > telstra to take advantage of these sorts of deals, both ports usually take <5mins each in the morning on a business day.

There are commonly issues porting betweeen the telstra wholesalers and specifically telstra and boost however.

For example porting between boost and telstra and vice versa, the port process takes a long time to the point they prefer to send out a preprogrammed sim, so it makes it difficult to take advantage of "new customer" sim packages. Telstra > Aldi > Boost, I had massive issues, with the phone being registered as an aldi device with towers for 6+ months. The phone was using the boost plan, data and whatnot on the backend but not registering with the towers properly. Multiple phones did not fix it, new sim did not fix it, telstra engineers could not give an eta on a fix.. thankfully sorted now though.

  • There's been some conjecture on here with some people saying they have been able to use this as a recharge? Has anyone had any luck doing so?

  • good find

  • "150GB DATA ON AUSTRALIA'S BEST 4G NETWORK"

    no 5g?

    • +1

      No longer.
After February 2021 any NEW plans or recharges would have no 5G access.
Believe $60 PM is the cheapest Telstra plan with 5G.

So this December I’m probably switching to Vodafone… or Boost.

      • 150GB on 4G or 5G won't last you long, if speed is the concern.

      • So sad Telstra is gate keeping 5G from their own customers.

        • -2

Not sold on the reliability of 5G yet given that you need line of sight with no object interference.

          • -1

            @eggaz: I think you’re confusing mmwave and sub 6ghz 5g

            https://www.macrumors.com/guide/mmwave-vs-sub-6ghz-5g/

            • @hashtagbargain: For point, but for the mmwave you need line of sight with no obstruction, without that you lose the benefit of the low latency and super high speeds. In my opinion it's not with paying any extra for 5G as 4G and 4GX is sufficient for most.
              https://youtu.be/_CTUs_2hq6Y

          • @eggaz: On the iPhone 12 Pro it’s been zippy generally speaking.. no issues at all

            • @[Deactivated]: Do you notice the difference being connected to 4G and 5G networks, or is it just zippy most of the time?

              • +1

@eggaz: It’s impossible to tell the difference for certain because the 5G symbol doesn’t mean you’re using 5G, only that you’re connected to a tower capable of 5G. Other than some 400 mbps+ speed tests I haven’t really noticed any great difference since I moved to a 5G capable Telstra phone and plan other than 5G appearing on the handset most of the time.

              • @eggaz: Less latency for sure.

  • +1

    Almost jumped at this
Less data than boost and no 5g is a deal breaker

    • -2

      boost doesnt have 5g anyway

      • +2

No but it’s better value for 4G

  • Telstra prepaid dumped international roaming and said a new replacement product will be available mid 2021. Where is it? Wifi calling might work. Or time to dump Toll$tra?

    • Telstra is busy fluffing about migrating customers to their new “upfront” system, and otherwise can’t get simple things like posting packages to customers right from their online store. If you don’t need 5G, or roaming, and are out of contract, drop them like it’s hot. Boost is a good option.

  • I am with boost, can I get this deal without porting out first?

    • +2

You would be porting from Boost to Telstra, they are different service providers. Although because they share a billing system there can be issues. See gearboxtech’s post above.

    • +1

To avoid porting issues seriously consider going to a $1 SIM from Optus/Voda before going to Telstra from Boost.

  • +2

Any reason to choose this over boost?

    • Esim which Boost doesn't yet offer :

      https://www.telstra.com.au/support/mobiles-devices/esim-dual…

      (first drop down)

      • does that mean apple watch esim can be added ?

      • That's handy, I was about to switch to Boost, from Telstra, but might look at a going on on eof these Telstra sims instead, esim is a bonus.

      • +1

I guess it comes down to whether you want international calls&text and more data or the esim service

  • Hey. How do you get the esim. I cant see an option in the app after activating the sim.

    • updating the app. If still nothing, visit a store and they'll get it done in few minutes.
