Swapping out the joycon is fairly easy - cheaper than buying a new controller
it should be noted that fixing drift is also fairly easy if you have basic skills, the sticks are not soldered on, so you can swap them out with replacements with basic tools.
I have received this controller yesterday and did a bit of a Hollow Knight session last night.
Pro:
- Works handheld and standalone wirelessly!
- Way more comfortable than standard joycons (handheld and also as standalone controller)
- Rumble is ok, a bit noisy at higher levels
- Rumble and lights can be adjusted from off to 100% in 25% intervals I think.
- Turbo and Extra button on the back
- Very Light controllers, useful for handheld mode. Feels a bit cheap as standalone.
- Stick has a good amount of travel distance
- Pairing was easy and works perfectly
- Can wake up the switch from sleep mode
- They are recognised as joy cons, my guess is that Mario party will just work fine for instance. They would be awkward to use as joy cons due to their shape.Cons:
- Looks cheap
- Plastic and overall button feel is not up to the quality of PS5 controller for instance.
- Buttons are a bit mushy, not clicky (personal preference). I kind of like PS4/PS5 feeling better, with a shorter pressing distance. Edit: I just grabbed the controller and the buttons are kind of clicky but the first bit when pressing them feels hard and mushy, then it kind of clicks and releases the force. Not the best experience but I'm ok with it.
- One usb-C on each side of the controller, if you are charging them non docked, you need 2 cables or twice the time.
- It is a H-U-G-E controller. Much bigger than the Joycons, bigger than PS5 one. I do not have a pro controller to compare to. I wish the middle section which holds them together were a bit narrower to make them stay closer as it'd feel smaller on my hands. Seriously, it is big.Overall I'm really really happy with it, I paid around ~75AUD including delivery a few weeks ago. Took 3 weeks to arrive from the official store to Melborune SE. The first time I ordered through Amazon US but they lost the package after a few weeks, so I've been waiting for this for a long time :)
