$500 off Any Outright Mobile Phone When Bundled with Telstra $69/Mo 12-Month 80GB 5G SIM Plan @ JB Hi-Fi

610

Hi all,
I am not a JB employee, just in the market for a new smartphone and found a pretty good deal at JB Hifi for a pre-Black Friday.
I have been to 2 totally different shops (one at EastGarden, one at Castle Hills) and both got the same "scripted" deal
You just need to ask the shop assistant to "log in" to their system and check if there is a deal for buying outright a smartphone.

Basically,
1. You need to sign up to the $69 per month Telstra 5G plan for 12 months (cost 69 x 12: $829)
2. The plan is for 60GB data, but a "bonus" from JB Hifi is additional 20GB ==> so 80GB data allowance
3. Select your phone: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/collections/mobile-phones/5g-phone…
4. Minus the price listed by $500. Example Pixel Pro 5G 256GB=$1449 - $500 = $949
5. So in this example, to pay on the day $69(first month) + $949 (phone)

Just need to pass the normal credit check for getting a Telstra postpaid (100 points ID required)

The only significant difference from Optus ($55 pm/80GB) is that the Telstra plan doesn't give unlimited international talk or text, but Telstra does have a better network in Australia. (FYI, Optus only give a $250 discount from the MSRP)

So, if you are in the market for a new phone, just compare the cost for 12 months with your plan:
"Saving" = (Your plan x 12)+(Phone price elsewhere) - ($69 x 12) - (JB price - $500)
if "Saving" is more than $0 then you save something.

Note: This is a non-advertised "deal", a.k.a below the line deal only for in-store purchase. 2 days left (sorry)

Extra challenge if you prefer Optus: do a price match from Optus https://www.optus.com.au/connected/news/our-new-optus-5g-pho…
(The challenge is you need to somehow get a proof about the deal - picture etc - and convince an Optus rep)
Good hunting…

Not as good as $59 and $500, but I I think that's the best they can do this year now. Been waiting for their $59 deal but seems hard to come pass now.

    • +2

      Will wait till black Friday

  • No general gift card? I’d even settle for a new iPad.

    • Try asking your local JB

There was something similar last year, and they let me use the discount for kitchen appliances.

      • +1

Haha. Sign up for a mobile plan and get a washing machine.

        • +4

The hell kinda food you cooking in your kitchen with a washing machine bro?

    • No it's either $500 off a mobile handset which requires them to put an IMEI in, or you get a $300 gift card which isn't even close to being a good deal.

  • +1

is this for port in /new customers only?

  • +1

    I'm stupid but for clarity:

    • Will this work for current Telstra users but out of contract?
    • Can I use this for a Pixel 6 - therefore making it $499?

    Thanks!

    • Yes and no. You will have to port in from other provider or do the work around widely known in OZB. Basically, get yourself a new service under your account, then go to Telstra Store, call up the their customer rep or chat with human rep and ask to close your old (current) service but transfer over that old number to the new service (to keep your current number)

You can absolutely use the credit for any phone 👍

      • Apparently this loophole has been closed, a few people tried recently and despite multiple attempts they couldn’t roll their number into this.

        • Hmm. Bad if true. Links?

          • @ccrap: Read through the last few Telstra threads here. I didn’t bookmark them, just made a mental note that this doesn’t seem to work any more.

            • @enigma48: If thats the case its changed in the last fortnight. I used this method successfully on 1st Nov.

            • @enigma48: Probably wait for a month like the rest.

  • last time something like this deal happened I created a new number the ported that number across to the old number and cancelled the old plan which was also on telstra …is that still possible

Be a much better bargain if Telstra just charged $27.34/mth for 80GB 5G

    • +2

Then they cant inflat revenue, nor can pass 500 as marketing cost.

      • They inflate revenue all the time. The last 12 months by basic plan went up 32% for the same thing - which is why I left.
@ $27 you wouldn't even need a marketing budget - 1 confirmed ozb post would suffice.

        • Absolutely sinks the ARPU.

          • +1

@Manny Calavera: Sure, but a hyperbolic ARPU is not a BARGAIN
$69 for 80GB is NOT a bargain and only pleases the boomer shareholders who can't spell NFT.
$27 would be higher than the $0 they're getting from me right now

            • -2

@mlakmlak: You're welcome to join Amaysim or whoever the broke foreigners seem to all sign up with.

            • @mlakmlak: They aren't in that market with their Telstra branded offerings. Boost is there if you want their network for cheap (minus 5G). $12/month is doing me just fine with them.

  • Can I cancel the plan after the first month?

    • +1

Yes, but you will trigger the ETC and I believe the gift card cost - meaning you will pay back the gift card and half of what your contract's worth

  • Bigger discount for higher plans?

  • +1

Do you get $10 credit for port-in new customer on this deal?

    • tried it once but they say promotion has ended. i might try again tomorrow.

  • +6

Oh come on jb just give the public what they want -$59/month with $500 gc, ya tease

  • Wifey got a $1200 gift card with a $99 plan today.

Means she got the 256gb pixel pro 6 for $99

Still having issues porting old number to new account.

      。。。
      24 months and 12 months。。。
      make it clear
      thx

      • 24months. I've just done exact same.

        $1200 voucher / 24 months = $50 backing real world cost $49pm

However it's a tax deduction for me so get even more benfit back. I'll claim 50% back back so 12x $50 is $600 now I'm on the highest tax bracket so work out that.

  • Would deal work if your a boost customer?

  • +1

And mine JB guy told me there is not any deal for pixel 6 pro cause it is too 'new' like iphone 13
    Yea right

  • I scored a Pixel 6 for $400 a couple of weeks back with the JB/Telstra $69 12 month 150 GB 5G deal. Great phone!

  • my kogan 1month plan expires before the black Friday, hoping a better deal by then.

  • Any confirmation on how long you need to have been ported out? I ported out yest?

    • +1

Worked when I was ported out for a few hours. Might depend on who you get

  • Does JB actually have stock of the Pro? Might have to cancel my Optus order…

  • Will this work if you're on aldimobile?

Got sick of vodafone prepaid and couldn't take it anymore, ported to aldimobile today.

Then their payment system is down :(

    • Aldi works…ported from Aldi to Telstra with no problems!

      • How long were you with Aldi for?

        • +1

I was with them for just under a year.

  • Got it swapped today in store. Some people know about it but you need to ask for the telco guy in store and they will confirm $500. There is a drop down tab they select when creating the contract. Finishes tonight.
