It’s a fun game but I didn’t enjoy the story.
I can’t understand why they decided to tell a story about how revenge is bad and end the cycle of violence in an apocalypse world. It doesn’t make sense. I don’t know who will care about revenge in that world. Surely survival is key in that world but Naughty Dog made it about revenge and learning life lessons. What?
Was the revenge Abbey and Ellie were taking necessary to either of their survival?
Yes. It was a great a game to play and I did love how the story played out, totally gut wrenching in places. Its fiction and you take just like that as this is ones opinion on how something like this plays out. Too many people take it too serious, just enjoy what is there.
I agree it got more hate than it deserved but I after playing it I felt it was severely overrated as well. In my opinion it was an above average game at best.
Good tech, plays fine, just doesn't do anything overly special that I haven't seen before.
The presentation was excellent but the story was just ok and felt convoluted in a lot of place, with characters doing dumb stuff just to progress the story along.
I also wish they used some of the more interesting gameplay elements more. For example, the rope mechanic was awesome but it's used maybe a handful of times, where it could have been used to spice up the gameplay a bit more. Instead it just feels like moving between stealth/shooty bits and talky/movie bits over and over with very little variation which tired me out by the end of the game. It probably doesn't help that the game is a good 5 hours longer than it needs to be as well.
Spiderman on the other hand is a bloody masterpiece. I'm currently playing the remastered version again on PS5 and its got wonderful pacing, plenty of variety, a decent story (although fairly par for the course for a superhero story) and feels just right in length.

LOU received many awards for the story and not the best gameplay\controls.
LOU2 on the otherhand had good if not excellent gameplay, but probably the worst story in modern games, and not worthy of the price. Likely targeting a different audience, but the people who purchased it early were purchasing for the story not the gameplay.
It's like what happened to star wars, if you watch the new movies without any history they are good. But if you have any sort of emotional investment in the franchise, then there is a lot of hate. ie: If you play LOU2 without playing LOU then sure it's an okay game and you can even appreciate LOU.
It is a technically accomplished game, it attracted a lot of unwarranted hate, but I was not impressed with the way the story resolved.
I finished it, but would not return to it.

Loved it, heartbreaking but still wonderfully executed. I hope they continue on with Abby & Lev, it would be awesome to see more of their story. Critical discussions are all well and fine if you didn't enjoy it, but sending death threats to those involved with the game isn't, screw them. Also Tommy sucks.

I've heard the Spiderman PS5 remastered is a lot better visually - would people in the know recommend getting the remastered instead?
I’ve got both. Admittedly didn’t play much of the OG ps4 version, but the remastered ps5 version looks and runs great. Worth it for such a great game!
Oh definitely. If you have a PS5 you want the PS5 version.
The PS5 remaster includes the DLC if that helps with your price comparisons. It's definitely worth getting it if you have a PS5 and find it for the right price.

@itsme56: You can make an ingame purchase in the standard version of Miles Morales to upgrade to the Ultimate Version though.

The only part which isn't great is the new character model for Peter Parker which appears younger and doesn't really match the character which is a more mature Spider-Man
The remastered version has a 60fps graphics mode which makes it much more fluid and enjoyable to play (you can switch between both in-game).
Absolutely recommend the PS5 version which comes with Ultimate Edition of Miles Morales. It's $76 on Amazon right now which isnt bad value considering you're getting Spiderman Remastered + all DLC and Miles Morales.
Not quite as good as $15 for the PS4 version but it is the superior and updated version of the game. Unfortunately PS4 Spiderman doesn't have a free upgrade to PS5.

I loved spiderman! Carbon copy of Batman but a great game in my opinion.
I wanted to like it, but coming straight out of all the batman games (loved them) Witcher 3 (loved it), horizon zero (loved it), Tsushima (just okay. Getting tired) and then spiderman… it just felt like more of the same but with a slightly worse plot.
BUT it's a solid game and a GREAT buy for this price. But for me it was a 3/5. Some of the fights went for so long that I'd lose feeling in my fingers!
Batman is a bloody tough act to follow. That was just… like if they remastered it for PS5, I'd buy and play it again instantly. No hesitation.

Consider Spider-Man: Miles Morales: Ultimate for the Spider-Man Remaster. It’s a huge upgrade but quite a bit more money.

No the PS5 upgrade is not free.
