TPG 5G Home Broadband, Unlimited Data, First Month Free, $69.99/Month up to 100Mbps, $79.99/Month Max Speed @ TPG

841

This seems like a decent deal if you have TPG 5G broadband coverage. Cheaper than NBN. Cheaper than Telstra, Optus and Vodafone 5G broadband.
It's worth a trial as there is no contract, 1st month free.
Existing TPG customers get $5/mth discount as well.
Apparently they have their own 5G network, or possibly share with Vodafone as they were merged last year, TPG Telecom expands standalone 5G network.
They seem more accessible than the Telstra 5G Home broadband offer, I tried a few addresses that got declined by Telstra address checker, but were accepted by TPG.

No lock in contract
$0 5G Modem^
$0 Activation Fee
$0 Delivery

Try it free for a month
If you're not 100% satisfied within the first month, then simply return the modem within 21 days of providing notice of cancellation^.

Quick setup
Connect as soon as your modem arrives - no technician needed.

WiFi Modem included
Dual-band AC Wireless for your in-home WiFi.

Great speeds
5G fast for browsing, emails, social media, HD and 4K streaming.

^Modem non-return fee will apply if service is cancelled within 36 mths of first connecting to 5G Home Broadband or if your order is withdrawn by us, and the modem is not returned.

Techy types should be aware that 5G Home Broadband uses CG-NAT. Carrier-grade NAT (Network Address Translation) is a type of network that assigns services with a private IP address, instead of a dynamic public IP address. Our network will then translate that private address into a public address. This means that the following items (which depend on internal NAT) will not work on 5G Home Broadband:
*Port forwarding
*Hosting web, email or file servers internally
*Smart Home systems (e.g. accessing security camera footage remotely, home automation and printers)
*Remote Access (i.e. accessing your home computer or devices from another location)

Carrier-grade NAT can give you a strict NAT with some online games.

      • I got their 4G because they say the area is covered. In real life, I was getting less than 5Mbps.

Good luck with their 5G coverage map

  • Oh…Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…..
I am hated by both Telstra and TPG………FML……………..

  • I don't understand I live in inner Sydney, very crowded area full of apartments (zetland/Waterloo) and 5G is not available :(
Seems like tons better than the NBN!

Otherwise I have their fttb and it's cheap and super reliable, never had any congestion! A bliss!

    • unless you want > 100Mbps

  • Available at my place. My NBN FttC caps out at 35/down and it is absurdly inadequate. NBN doesn’t see a problem and wants me to pay $9k for the upgrade. F that.

    Hoping this works.

    • Starting next year nbn are allowing FTTC to FTTP if you go on nbn Gigabit or nbn 250 and you won't have to pay $9k. This will be done through ISPs. In the meantime there can be a wiring fault inside your premises. Have you had it checked out?

      • Next year for specific suburbs though right?
Or is it an ask you ISP free for all?

        • +1

FTTN to FTTP = specific addresses.

FTTC to FTTP = most addresses.

          • +1

            @Twix: Ah right thanks.
I just got the Telstra 1TB working decently, so might switch off my FTTN now until my suburb is on the upgrade list.

      • +1

So we only pay ISP for nbn 250 Mbps down plan at max to get the NBN to upgrade our FTTC infrastructure to FTTP? No any other cost like NBN reconnection/upgrade/transformation/hidden costs?

Do you know how many months we'll have to fork out for NBN 250Mbps+ Plan without having access to those speeds or like expect to be paying premium without getting premium speeds?

        • nbn 250 is the min. requirement to swap from FTTC to FTTP. I heard ISPs will do a 1 year contract.

You will only pay for nbn 250 once FTTP is enabled.

          • @Twix: So cant really take advantage of those 6 months promo offers like this they only last for 6 months generally and afterwards switching to another NBN promo deal. Like that cant really get FTTP like that?
As ISP probably want a 1 year contract with maximum 6 months promo price and after 6 months another 6 months of nonpromo price?

            • @USER DC: I assume it will be full price for 1 year and after that you can use 6 months promos by swapping ISP.

              • @Twix: Not really willing to pay any more than $100 a month for 12 months just for sake of getting FTTP to my home (almost the double cost what i want to pay for internet), nevertheless works out to be ~$600 extra for internet if I upgrade just for sake of getting FTTP (Not making full use of it). On the other hand other people in units will probably get it for free for me paying extra. Not a good deal for individual in strata units.

                • @USER DC: Nah they don't get a free ride.

                  • +1

@Twix: They definitely did during the Adsl 2 to NBN FTTC conversion. And I ain't really interested in paying for them this time, may be let some other owner do the hard work of spending $$. But thanks for your information

      • Repeatedly. Had 3 techs out in 2 years. NBN came back saying max speed to the property is 35/down.

        • How long is your driveway?!

          • +1

@ctg: I’m in a unit block on a major road. There’s absolutely no reason it should be this crap. But, it is.

  • How can they use a WiFi 5 router?

Not only that, Vodafone lie and shape their upload speeds on 5G. I get 550 down but only 40 up…they say it’s a reception issue. Imma call the proverbial.

    • -1

My understanding is that 4G is still used for uploads, so that may be a 4G speed limitation/ congestion and the service rep is just a script reader.

  • keep in mind wifi modem router will cost you $ 17 *(36-number of months you been with tpg). Unless you return it to them in good condition

My guess is they gonna slug with fee clamming that it was not in good condition.

    • +2

I cannot see how you can return it at less than good condition. It is going to sit at one spot indoor the whole time, unless you drop kick it everytime it loses connection… ;-) FYI I have returned a 5G modem router before my contract finished as it did not perform at their guaranteed minimum speed consistently. That was with Spintel/Optus after a year. No hassle there. Make sure you keep the box for this purpose.

      • Make sure you keep the box for this purpose.

Generally speaking most average people will not. I certainly do and especially if i know that i will need to return it in future sometime to recoupe any cost.

I would certainly go on board if I was desperately needing to get more than 50 Mbps but at an extra $15 (currently on exetel's $50 /50 mb plan) I dont find it worth switching over to But will definitely consider after my exetel's promo price ends

  • I live in a building which only provides LBN service and the Internet is really poor. I am signing up this 5G broadband and see how it goes, since it says 1 month free trial and 0 fee when cancellation with returned modem.

    • I just got it today. Super easy setup and the speed is consistently impressive :)

      • Unfortunately my apartment doesnot receive 5G properly. I only have orange light signal on thr modem and laptop can receive much signal when i placed the modem in my bedroom. Refunding now

  • +1

I live in an apartment in Melbourne CBD where our building provides shitty internet plan and charges a hefty premium to access the network room if we want to setup our one NBN. This deal has been great coming from a Felix 20mbps plan. It's double the cost of felix $35 pm but 5x the speed :) very happy
