How is this thing still so expensive?

    • -5

yep if it were me i will get the PS5 controller

Yeah. In protest I bought a Wii Remote. Can't use it with my Switch, but it's the principle that counts.

    • Not sure but I just got a carbon copy from Aliexpress $32. Works fine.

      • DM link?

      • Can it turn on the switch with power button?

        • No it can't. I turn it on manual.

      • +6

Lol that looks horrible and nowhere near the original.

        • Hahaha it's a copy.

My 'original' joycons failed within 13 months with minimal use. These are still going at 6 months. Lets see because even if it fails, then I am still ahead with the price.

        • Look at something 1/3 of the price and say it's nowhere near the original…Easy for you XD

      • +2

Based on the product you linked, you have a strange definition of 'carbon copy'. Doesn't look at all like the Nintendo Pro Controller.

Not saying it doesn't work well but it definitely is visually different, has a different button layout and is functionally different as it cannot start a Switch.

It is not a 'carbon copy'.

      Nintendo don't drop prices.

  • Thanks for sharing op! Great deal for a solid controller. $69 is the cheapest you used to get a year ago so best to capitalise on that deal

  • +3

    Wouldn’t an SN30 pro 2 be a better choice?
(Given it’s been $68 at EB for a few weeks)

    • Can’t turn the switch on with the 8bitdo tho. Makes the Pro the only choice if you’re lazy like me :)

      • +2

I hear you, and note the irony that it’s a handheld console we can’t be bothered to get up and turn on

  • decent price. is usually on backorder at lower price points

  • +1

Does this controller make a real difference. I have had these controllers from Aliexpress and they work really well.

If you're happy with what you've got, then no reason to change

I can almost guarantee the official ones will feel and be better in every single way, but sometimes it's not worth the cost just to be disappointed with what you already have if you see no issue

    • Well it's far better than Joycons.

It seems like a high quality controller. Coming from someone who uses the $200 for Xbox Elite for most things including Switch (via Brook adapter). It's disappointing that it has no analogue triggers.

    • AGREE on ali. I love my $30 controller which can now be bought for $20.

  • I want to get a 2nd pro controller, but we really need some more colours or designs. Plenty of joy con options but only a few limited release pro for Splatoon 2, Xenoblade 2 and smash.

    • More colors. Check Aliexpress. :)

  • I use a Switch Lite but my partner says people still sit their Switch Lite down on a table stand and play with a wireless controller for comfort. I'm considering getting this for $59 with the Little Birdie sale but not sure if I should considering I have a Switch Lite and not a full-size Switch.

    • Full switch is good if you want to play on the TV using the dock.

      • Yeah for sure. She has both the 8bitdo and Switch Pro controller

        • +1

In that case, why don't you try out her controller and see if you want one? Even if you don't have a stand for now I'm sure you could rest it somewhere. $59 is probably the cheapest official option you'll have for getting one.

          • @Miss B: Yeah that's true. Thanks for the suggestion. I guess I just couldn't compute playing an already hardstuck portable console with an additional wireless controller. It does get a bit uncomfortable for my big hands after long playing sessions e.g. Zelda BotW so might do me some good. Cheers.

            • +1

@tacos4brekkie: I have the full switch and often play with the controller, I don't always disconnect the joycons. I play in handheld, tabletop and TV. For tabletop I usually sit at the kitchen table and put it on a stand on a board game box or 2 because the stands are pretty low. You probably can't sit too far from it because the screen isn't that big, but you might be able to do a coffee table/lounge thing, I just do TV mode in that situation so haven't tried.

          • @Miss B: $59 ? I can see $71. I can buy three copies for that price.

            • @Naigrabzo: They have a coupon from Little Birdie and I think Commbank for $20 off somewhere where it's $79.

  • the reviews arent too promising. people taking it apart calling it a counterfeit.

    • +1

I believe all the reviews are collated from all sellers, not just Amazon (hence the discrepancy).

It's most likely third-party sellers selling counterfeit controllers.

  • -1

LOL - I got downvoted for pointing out that they are fake?

Ok people, enjoy the counterfeits (read the amazon reviews, they detail in how they're not legit ones….you clowns)

    • +3

I'm guessing those few reviewers bought it from one of the several resellers, not from Amazon directly.

      • Maybe. Regardless the down vote for pointing out the reviews is harsh

        • +1

It may seem harsh because you were just trying to help, but your comment was misleading, so it's understandable why you were downvoted. It's more Amazon's fault for grouping all the reviews together, they should at least specify which seller the reviewer purchased it from.

          • @dano: AMZ always group reviews together for many many products. Not just this.

    • -4

AHAHAHAHA! If you pay $71 for a fake one. I can hook you up with $20 fakes from Ali and they work fine!

I am assuming none of you are PRO-esports champions. Your performance on the game will not suffer. :)

    • You got downvoted because you posted something factually incorrect. You also based your statement not on first hand knowledge but rather on untrusted and unproven 3rd party statements.

The Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers sold by Amazon AU are genuine products. I make that claim based on personal experience.

Amazon have a weird (read 'bad') review system where they display reviews for products sold by other sellers as long as the listing has the same name. I have no idea why they do it but you can see examples of it everywhere. It polutes their feedback system and makes trusting reviews difficult.

  • +1

Went into JB and they price matched.

    • Good call

    • Damn, I tried EB today and they said noooope.

  • bah purchased these yesterday for $79, CS won't refund the difference or give me a credit!

    • Refund and buy again? In this case, I am not after the $8 difference, simply to punish them playing jerk.
