    This is the only thing I know of that'll do a proper steamed milk espresso coffee on a gas stove. I got one to use in a motorhome. It does a passable job, but is a bit of messing about for the small quantity it can make. 'rival commercial espresso machines'? Nope, maybe the cheaper home machines.

    I have the cheaper one of these for steaming - it does fantastic. Just be warned that it can take around 10 minutes to steam up your thing to be ready to use for the milk.

    Presumably a typo, but I get the impression that a lack of simple steps genuinely is a selling point for some people with coffee machines.
