Lenovo's BLACKFRIDAY sale has been a balls up.

If you were pricing the same laptops with the CYBER21 (now defunct) code then you'll have noticed Lenovo have since bumped up the prices so the BLACKFRIDAY code doesn't compare with the old CYBER21. A fully spec'd X1 Yoga increased by almost $300 here. Luckily I foresaw something shady happening so I saved my old quote and was able to call in and get the lower price but in doing so I forfeited $140 in CashRewards which sucked.

This was via the edu store but I just checked my spec'd Yoga, the price is identical on the regular site anyway. Unsure if this is the same across all models, I'd say it is. They even increased warranty upgrade costs and removed the sales on certain accessories I needed. If you saved a quote using CYBER21, please do a comparison, I bet you'll find the old price was lower.

Hike the prices for Black Friday, good on ya Lenovo 👎

EDIT: I just realised I could have accessed the saved quote online and still got my CashRewards. Gah! Anyone in my boat, get the old quote online and proceed that way. Best price PLUS CashRewards. Dealing with them over the phone wasn't pleasant so I don't think I'll bother cancelling / reordering for the cashback bonus.

    • +1

Yeah mate was going to say that haha

I actually did a yoga carbon order. Got two quotes as I cancelled first order when cashrewards went up to 12% instead of the usual 6% for yoga.

      Got $275 cashrewards on 1700

      • You win some you lose some.

I looked at my saved quotes but the best one was the one I used over the phone and the system obviously deletes them once used. Strangely though he mentioned some discount of $10 on the phone but when I just checked my bank there was a further $40 reduction. So comparing this end price to going back and using CR on a slightly worse quote would have ended up much the same price as I have now paid. All kind of ended well, I just should have looked before getting on the phone.

Glad you had a good outcome!

        • Yeah one thing I learnt with the quotes was they last like 3 weeks….

But once you accept you cannot unlock or redo it ..

That was annoying. So better to accept the quote when you're ready and confident

      • Quick question mate, did you get Cash Rewards cash back on a negotiated quote? Or were they standard website quotes?

i didn't think you could negotiate a deal and still get cash back?

        • only cashrewards not shopback for quotes

but to be clear I got them to give me a quote to my lenovoPRO business site and cashrewards is paying that at the moment.

Shopback specifically says no cashback to quotes so didnt want to risk it.

Need to just check the terms carefully but theres nothing stopping you from getting the normal store to write you a quote based on education store price (need to prove education email / status).

Or vice versa (sorry cannot remember if its normal site or education store that gives cashback)

          • @AussieMark: Thanks mate. I just read that they both don't regard 'negotiated deals' as eligible. I assumed any quote would be a negotiated deal.

I have a Pro account, but I'm also trying to salary sacrifice this through my regular job. So unsure if that would cause me any issues by going via the Pro store.

            • @Pitzy: Cash rewards says lenovopro cash back at the very bottom (last paragraph)

It's a little confusing with the disclaimer on left and top but scroll down to the last paragraph :) where it says lenovopro

    • Yeah, it's (profanity) awful. One of the many 'sales' under the 95% of Black Friday sales that aren't actually bargains.

Looks like they're running out of stock too. You think they'll have a decent sale before the end of the year?

Not to be confused with the Legion 5 Pro 16" with the better screen, still available at lenovo edu store for $1917.52

    Display: 16.0" WQXGA (2560x1600) IPS 500nits Anti-glare, 165Hz, 100% sRGB, Dolby Vision, HDR 400, Free-Sync, G-Sync, DC dimmer

    • Yes it's a better deal if you have access to the Edu store.

      • While I'm not able to give it out, doweyy can provide people access to lenovo edu store without edu email.

        • As mentioned above, for my Yoga the edu store and normal store are exactly the same price. Unsure about other models. The blow was Lenovo increased all the prices around midday today before releasing this new BLACKFRIDAY code. Those who saved quotes before lunchtime time will likely be better off using that (I think the edu store was cheaper before the changes made today)

          • @Click_It: You're right! I just checked Lenovo edu store for the legion 5 pro and price has gone up since that deal :(

            • @CodeXD: Is this the Edu store through doweyy's Student Beans login thing?

I have normal edu store access (through a student email) and BLACKFRIDAY doesn't work, CYBER21 still works, and prices appear the same as this morning/last couple of days?

Legion 5 Pro 16" AMD is still $1,917.52 with CYBER21 code for me.

            • +1

@CodeXD: It's poor form isn't it. They knew everywhere was waiting for the Blackfriday code and they jacked the price up

      • And willing to wait 7 to 8 weeks for it. All the pre-built models were sold out two weeks ago.

        • I'm sure there'll be another lenovo ebay deal in the next 7-8 weeks to get a pre-build.

    • +1

Don't forget to check if they're even in stock.

Some of the models are taking more than 8 weeks to deliver. Wouldn't be surprised if you only get them in Feb.

      • The screen is much better but have to wait 2 months.

        • Yeah my Yoga is a 6 week wait but for something that pretty much ticked all my boxes I'm happy to wait 6 weeks. Supply chains are a complete mess right now, this isn't just isolated to Lenovo.

  • If you are even considering this, ask for a student email (friends, family, etc) and get the student deal. That screen walks all over this one!

  • Wasn't it $16xx before?

    • That was the 5600h version with a 3050ti

  • +1

So this is a BlackFriday's Jack special?

    • Please provide me with a link where it shows the price cheaper than this, that is not the Edu store.

    • +1

What a clear way to tell me you don't want my business. Wait for the traditional sales to RAISE the price. Pity. I have a 1050ti machine that is otherwise similarly spec'd and wanted to go for a 3060 version because other than a few annoyances it's been a solid machine. But not if they want to do this. Bye Felicia…I mean Lenovo.

      • I am not aware a Ryzen based Legion with a 1050ti, please provide a link to the specs thanks

        • Sorry I mis-spoke. 1650ti.

Garbled it in my mind with the 1060 on my older Acer Predator. 10 series is clearly older than current Ryzen.

  • How come the cashback so low at the moment
Need to wait for 20% cashback special magical time

  • Are there any deals on laptops with 32gb ram? Preferably with an i7, Ryzen 7 or higher. I am struggling to find any good deals on this.

    • +2

      There was a dell deal for Inspiron 16 Plus Laptop;

      11th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-11800H
      NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 6GB GDDR6 [60W]
      32GB, 2x16GB, DDR4, 3200MHz

      • +1

Yup, very tempted. It's got every port I want. SD card, camera, HDMI. Varying models here: https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-16-plu…

        $2500 for the 11th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-11800H
        NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 6GB GDDR6 [60W]
        32GB, 2x16GB, DDR4, 3200MHz
1 TB SSD (and room for a 2nd drive).
The screen looks to be pretty decent. 16:10 3k

    • +1

The one I got was a spec'd up X1 Yoga with 32GB LPDDR4-4266. I optioned it with the i7-1165G7. I would have gone Ryzen if it were an option but I think the 11th gen mobile processors are reasonably decent anyway.

    • +1

If you have access to an Edu account you can get a Lenovo ThinkPad P14s with a Ryzen 7 and 32GB of RAM for $1547.92 with the "Cyber21" code.

      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/education/laptops/thinkpad/thin…

You can the get the Gen 2 version with a Zen 3 Ryzen Pro 5650u and 32GB of RAM for a similar price point on the Lenovo Edu store as well.

      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/education/laptops/thinkpad/thin…?

      • Damn that's pretty good, I didn't see those ones before.

        Thanks a lot!

        • Yeah the problem is CYBER21 code ended when this code started. See my earlier comment. Unless they've reversed it and brought it back.

  • How long will it take to deliver to the Sydney area? like website indicates 2 days? Any experience?

  • +2

Jack is back, but took up residency at Lenovo

    • My daughter always likes the Big Jack from HJ when I take her there. Next time I'll say no and explain to her that Lenovo ate them all.

  • this good to run BF2042 on ??

    • This will have no issue. Refer to the below YouTube video for different graphics presents for the Legion Ryzen 5 and 3060.

      https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EXVFZEsiahY

      • ok - u think it's worth selling my MSI GS65 85e (2060 with i7 8750H) which bottlenecks with BF2042 and can't get the fps above 30 odd …

  • Anyone have any success getting Cash Rewards/Shopback on negotiated quotes?

    • Only cash rewards but I used Lenovo pro store..(business store)

Shopback says it won't track for lenovopro so didn't try it…
