    $40, I agree. Both the Bose OEM and these alternative 3rd party ear cushion replacements are near identical and appear to come out of the same factories in China
    and I have purchased both products. They are both made from the same Pleather (synthetic leather) material, although Bose has kept that fact tucked away in the small print. (I too was mistaken and thought that the materials used in the Bose units were genuine leather, but upon close inspection when the original cups wore out I discovered that they weren't.

    Bottom line. Even with careful use, they last about the same length of time about 12 months). I live in a hot, humid sub-tropical climate which can accelerate the wear and tear.

    NOTE: Replacing ear cushions can be tricky. Bose does supply clear (by IKEA standards) instructions, the 'no names' sometimes don't. There are good videos on YouTube that can help.
