"PS: I know some of you don't want to see these deals again, but please note that most people post these deals to share with the community with good intentions in mind."

As opposed to the endless diarrhea of mobile phone 'deals'? Ignore those fools. I happen to be looking for a Crucial M4, so thanks for the heads up. :)

It's his or her first post.

Not everyone lives on this site waiting to post "Oh noes not anutha Cruhal Deal Noobz"

When the price goes down its a deal and users should be able to post it / see it.

Move past it or go outside and get some sun, you clearly are above this site.

Thanks for the post…. This brand obviously seems to be the most popular on here? Im guessing it is the general consensus that this is the most reliable / performing? Im looking to buy one soon and have been attempting to compare using my basic knowledge of ssd's i notice this one has a write speed of 260 mb/sec where others have both read and write up around 500 mb/sec… Can anyone possibly inform me of whether these speeds matter or not? cheers

    • +8

no intel is the most reliable, and the 520 is a good performer… this brand is a tier 3 drive, good all round, but nothing special… ocz are fastest but have reliabilty issues.

this is a significant price drop to be worthy of a mention today.

ps, no the write speeds dont matter much,. its mainly read but more so the IOP's you will very rarely be copying from 3 hhds on to it at the same time that youll max out 260meg a second…….. its just marketing gimics anything over 150 is fine.

      • Cheers for that… can you (or anyone) recommend a ~120 gb drive for my os and a few programs (not for storage?) is the m4 the best bang for your buck or are other brands a better buy eg kingston, ocz, intel etc… thanks to all that help…

        • +5

with out a doubt intel 520 120gb for $185 from msy, no question…

i have a revodrive 3 120gb, which costs $450 and i would chose the intel over the revo any day of the week and twice on sunday!

intel comes with 5 year warrenty, and while it uses the same controller it uses better firware that intel delayed releasing for a year to get it just right and be able to offer the 5 year and put their name behind it.. intel faiure rate is 0.1% ocz gets as high as 9% ;-(

          cheers

        • Yeah I'm leaving towards the intel myself…though I've been meaning to do some research into the new patriot lines.

    • I bought a Crucial M4 512Gb from Amazon in early March. It failed within a short time (minutes of use). I'm currently using a Sandisk 240Gb drive without issues. Amazon were really good with returns and gave a refund without problems.

Interestingly there was a yellow sheet with large bold black writing in the Crucial SSD box asking users to check the Crucial site for firmware updates before using the drive. No such notice with Sandisk's product. Maybe Crucial shipped a product before it was ready?

      • The yellow sheet is probably about a previous issue with the Crucial M4, where it would continually fail after 5200ish hours of use. The issue is fixed in firmware revision 0309, so anyone buying this should make sure they update to this firmware if the one they receive is an older revision.

Sweet, I currently have the 128GB M4 for my desktop, now I can grab this and use the 128GB for my HP N40L NAS which I've bought from the Dessytek sale =D

    • +4

I couldn't think of a bigger waste of money than putting a SSD in a NAS if it's only used for storage.

    • That's a waste. you don't need an SSD for the OS drive of a NAS. All it does is load the OS, then small background tasks. Sell the SSD or move it to another desktop/laptop.

      • yeah, the thing is that you can run windows on it or an real os,.. not just as nas,.. if i had a n40l id load windows on it and load my other apps and such for a server,….

    • I did the same, but with a spare 60gb OCZ Vertex 2 that I had.

Don't listen to the others, just do it.

Windows boots in seconds, which I think is worth the price of admission alone. Apps run much faster, which is handy for when you have to configure things, especially given the relatively slow dual-core processor.

Sure it's not a necessity but it's definitely a nice to have.

    Thanks for the post.
I'm seriously considering to buy one of these.
But everyone's posting up a new one every week for a cheaper price.
Makes me less inclined to buy one.

  • Great post, what happens if you need to claim warranty? Can you claim in Oz?

Also , in a sata hdd dock. I Fit a corsair force 3 and patriot wildfire no problem but a ocz vertex wont physically fit in . The casing if the drive is too wide on one side.
Any ideas on the m4 fitting a drive dock ?

  • after spending money on these i realised how much time i spend in a web browser where your internet link is the weaker link not the hard drive..something to keep in mind

    • As soon as I can get that concept into my mind it'll probably stay there :P

I appreciate these posts too, though I'm going to hold out a little longer.
    Keep them coming! :)

  • yikes this is great~! i bought my 256gb ssd for my laptop a while back for about 324 AUD so it's really coming down quickly

  • +3

Yes kept on coming. I will wait for a bit longer.

  • Don't need the SSD, but +1 for that camelcamelcamel site, very useful.

  • lol "nick zzz" has the most negs I've ever seen on a posted deal:D
    Record breaker?

  • Bought this one instead for USD$265, now its gone up slightly.

    http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Force-2-5-Inch-Solid-CSSD-F240…

But the item arrive several days ago badly damaged, the ssd & the bracket were bent so badly. It was shipped in the standard thin amazon cardboard box, not sure if crucial is shipped better. Currently waiting for replacement from amazon.

  • Why I can't buy the 128GB crucial SSD from amazon? Did anyone know what is happening?

    • Except for the 256GB, they've stopped shipping the Cruical M4 internationally. If you go to the product detail section, it states: Currently, item can be shipped only within the U.S.
