  • I have bought and booked one with a groupon. Does anyone know the quaality of this beer? (Tempted to buy another voucher.)

  • Don't see it anywhere on the page. Can you deep link?

  • I've had a horrible experience with OurDeal, otherwise I may have considered this.

If nothing goes wrong and you don't need to contact OurDeal, you might be OK.

    • so far, this is my experience as well.

  • I've had some u-brew stuff before and it's been quite tasty, especially the German beers.
Not as good as my stuff…but hey for $21.5/slab it's cheaper then the bottle

  • Not 100% on what happens. So we go there and brew it & take it home? Or they give us the brew stuff & we go home & brew it ourselvs?

  • +2

u-brew usually means that you go in there, they show you how to make your own beer, and you spend a few hours making it … the taste is meant to be quite close to the original and you can replicate most of your store bought beers … personally, i like my cheap home brew out of a can :)

  • Just bear in mind that U-brewit beers don't contain preservatives and so have to be kept in the fridge. I hope you've got room for 150 bottles of beer in your fridge. I didn't!

Beers pretty good though. Liked the white beer.

    • lol they don't have to be kept in the fridge, they will actually taste better the longer you keep them out of the fridge.

Just read any homebrew beer forum.

      • From U-brewit's own FAQ;
" Q.Why does the beer have to be refridgerated?
A.Your beer contains no preservatives, so re-fermentation may occur given the right circumstances. Sugars in Beer can ferment at temperatures 7degC and above so refrigeration is required to keep the temperature below this mark."

        • so your fridge is above 7°C ? sounds more like a heater, secondary fermentaion takes place above 7°C so stick em in the shed

        • +1

re-fermentation will only occur if it didn't finish fermenting in the first place.
but that also tends to blow your bottles….

      • It sounds like the I-brewit guys don't have a clue about what they are talking about if they suggest putting the beer in the fridge right after bottling. That will make terrible beer.

Supabrudda is right- your bottles will only blow if you put too much sugar in the bottles or the fermentation did not finish in the first place.

    • "Just bear in mind that U-brewit beers don't contain preservatives and so have to be kept in the fridge."??

No they need to be kept in you belly.
You don't need to keep them cold, just in the manshed. 3mths is perfect, 6mth+ they get long in the tooth

  • Does this including bottling the actual beer? The one I used before we had to do it or was about a $60 charge.

Also can we pick any from the boutique/gourmet range?

    • Have a look at the T&C, it looks like bottles are included in this deal.

I've seen deals for $60 before without the bottles, so this looks appropriate.

      • Sorry I meant actually putting the beer into the bottle, takes a while to fill up 144 bottles from a tap then cap them and really need 2 people to do it.
That's how i've done it at another place.

Unless they do that for you or it's all automatic at this joint?

why not just buy a coopers brew kit at Big W and make it yourself. its very easy, and tastes great. There is a great homebrewing community to help as well.

    • +1

I second this. I bought one of those kits and the beer has been great. I even gave some away as Xmas presents and people had only good things to say about it.

      • +1

Yep those kits are great if you use them with 1kg of malt instead of sugar and the most important part is keeping the temperature down while its fermenting. If you keep the temperature around 20 degrees Celsius or lower you will make good beer.

    • I agree with the sentiment, I have the kit myself. But there is a fair bit of cleaning and sanitising you need to do with the Cooper's kit, which would presumably be handled by a you-brew type joint

Can't speak for U-Brew It as I have never used them, but the you-brew places I have used in the past have been a bit more convenient than doing it myself.

That being said I love my Cooper's kit. Thanks for reminding me, I will have to do up a batch this weekend

      • Yes they do require sanitising which is a pain in the ass. Bottling can also take a while and a bit messy. But the results are worth it, about 2 cases of beer for under $20 cant be beat. I am making the mexican cerveza at the moment, usually do the pale ale.

  • I bought the groupon voucher and booked it for osborne park. you get a 90 minute "tour", during which you might do something (not sure, I was more interested in the time commitment). Three weeks later you return to pick up 6 slabs.

There was no issue in booking it, other than understanding what the dude was saying.

Now that they are out there in group buy world, they will be forever hammered to do more vouchers. So in an ideal world, I will go, get the grog, like it and another voucher will appear….

  • For what it's worth, my ex girlfriend works there. You can choose from a huge range of beers which are pretty much identical to the brands they copy, IMO. The one in Keilor Park (can't speak for the others) is a great operation - they have bbqs there for you, so you can bring some meat and make a day of it. As far as I can remember, there were free 'samples' to be had all day while you were brewing, which is also a pretty good deal. Not sure about the regular price, and yes I have a connection to the company, but if you go to that one at least, you should have a good time and come back with a good quality beer.
