I would rather to pay a bit more and wait for this deal again https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/631847

    • Likewise, am waiting for that Lenovo deal again…

Completely different use case. This is quite a lot of machine for a Chromebook, and exactly the device I'd buy for anyone not very technically inclined, and only needing to do basic usage.

That being said, I did get that e14 gen 2 deal for myself.

i got the same model but ryzen 7 instead for the price

But that's not a Chromebook mate

      That's not a Chromebook.

non touch screen classic windows notebook vs this? apples to oranges

the 32gb mmc is a frustrating choice

    • Yep, 32GB is petty borderline for a chromebook, if you use it a lot. I have a similar spec but 64GB which is fine, but the nature of chromebooks has me wishing for more.

  • Is onboard storage expandable? Can it be swapped or upgraded somehow?

    • Unlikely, but you can add a micro SD card.
Also you can connect to network drives on a Chromebook.

      • Or a usb drive.

Original poster mentioned that it is long in the tooth, but Auto Update Expiration is not until June 2026, so plenty of life left.

    • Edit: 6.5 years is typical, and some have been extended further. Your date seems correct

OG: That doesn't sound right. Isn't expiration 5 years, which would make this a 2021 device which I didn't think it was?

The backlit keyboard is ordinary at best. The keyboard is silver so the back light is only effective when the room is very dark. Often I adjust the brightness of the screen so I can see the keyboard.
Had it for about 14 months now and for my needs - email, googling crap and the odd YouTube video - it's great. I bought it to replace my old Toshiba Chromebook from 2013 or 2014. Appreciably heavier than that but more screen real estate for about the same size and it also has the advantage of having a flip screen and Android Apps. Bought from Harvey cost $748 but came with a $300 gift card which I put towards a new TV.
