25% off Plex Pass Lifetime - A$119.99 @ Plex

150
SEEYA2021

Just saw this on a Plex Facebook ad. Use the code SEEYA2021 to get 25% off Plex Pass. Offer expires 23/12/21 @ 23:59 UTC 23:59 UTC on December 31, 2021. (which converts to Friday 24th of December @ 10:59am AEDST).

I'm wondering if this works with the workaround as described here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/666383

tried it. it's ok but Plex is way better

Plex is easily worth it for the one time fee. Had my system running for four years (moved once to a more powerful system) and it’s brilliant.

      • What is the spec of your more powerful system?

        • +1

Upgraded from an Optiplex SFF system with an Intel Core i7 3770 to a Precision SFF with an Intel Core i7 6700.

Boot drive is a 512GB NVMe M.2 drive so doesn’t take up a drive bay or SATA port. Have 16TB of drives internal and a few portable external USB 3.0 connected.

The new system takes advantage of Intel Quicksync for transcoding when needed, and does a great job converting DVDs to H264 for adding to my library.

32GB RAM is a bit overkill, but it came with a single 16GB stick so made sense to pair another for dual-channel.

Plex is a lot lighter on the system and more ready-to-run out of the box.

Inb4 “is this like Netflix?” gets asked again.

      Is this like Netflix?

Yes, but better! if you are into managing your own media library.

Is it really worth paying for over the free version?

    • I've got the free version working well on my NAS for movies and TV shows but the music component is very clunky - I've heard Plexamp is pretty good but is only available with Plex Pass. Not sure if it's worth it just for Plexamp…

      • Have you tried the free month trial?

    • +2

I am in the middle of a free one month trial of a plex pass and have noticed absolutely zero point zero zero zero benefits to having it.

Many will disagree with my opinion but for 95%+ of users the main purpose of Plex Pass is to say thanks to the developers rather than get actual personal benefit out of it.

      https://support.plex.tv/articles/201751006-plex-pass-feature…

I'm not saying there is anything wrong at all with saying thanks to the developers.

      • Have you used Plexamp? What are your thoughts on that if you did?

        • Have not used it.

If this is is it's not of any interest to me - 'better artwork and artist bios, automatic lyrics from LyricFind, loudness leveling, sweet fades, visualizers, and more.'

It's decent on mobile, not as good as apple's music or spotify.

On PC it's not great at all as it's just a container of the same mobile app. Really I can't justify using it to replace spotify at the moment.

      • +5

I bought it for 1 reason only and that is the ability to skip intros for TV shows which still remains 100% worth it.

      • Skipping feature is the best thing in the pass

      • +4

gpu live transcoding is the most important feature IMO

      • Don't you use the transcoding feature on the plexpass

Pricing Incorrect in the title. It should be A$119.99.

    • According to xe.com, USD$89.99 converts to approximately AUD$126.29.

      • +1

        Lifetime Plex pass = 159.99aud
        offer = 25% off

        Calculation:

        159.99*25% = 39.9975

        Total = 159.99 - 39.9975 = $119.99

  • I tried the workaround to use Turkey to save some money. So far no luck. I hope someone else can shine some light and see is there any way.

  • VPN for turkey is the better alternative! Paid only ~$65

    • is that still currently doable?

      • I just tried with a VPN, it detects that im trying to use an Aussie credit card on a Turkey purchase and wont let me proceed.

        • Sounds like they finally caught up

    • Was this fixed

The way plex handles subtitles for anime is awful. There is a script that might fix it, but you should be able to set a default (or even best effort) subtitle by show..

Also plex pass for hardware encoding.

    • I know nothing about anime but have you tried https://www.bazarr.media/

      • The subtitles exist (mostly embedded in the mkvs), but the subtitle settings are system wide. Complaining that you can't set them per series.

        • You just need to create a script that automatically runs for certain directories after downloading, which detects the English subtitles in the mkv and sets them to forced.

The Plex will automatically show them.

You could also hardcode them into the video, but that will require re-encoding, which will be much slower.

  • Couldn't get the code to work with Turkish pricing, I use a standard Commbank debit card and it kept getting detected as wrong country even with all work arounds.

    • Same here, tried all methods mentioned in previous post, nothing worked. Using commbank credit card.

      Can anyone advise?

      • I'm thinking perhaps one of those TransferWise cards made for international payments might do the trick, but yes would love someone to say how it may still week.

    • I got thru via Turkey VPN and Revolut card.

  • Since plex stopped working a month ago for Samsung users, I'll pass

    • What does that even mean? If you’re referring to the issue with Samsung TVs it’s on units no longer supported by Samsung because of an expired certificate.

lol. When will people understand that using “smart tvs” is dumb.

TV manufacturers are terrible and making and supporting media player.

        • Tbh I wish there was a no frills panel at some point. All I need is hdmi and display port, let me handle the audio and processing on my end, forget all the wacky image processing. Don't even need a coax input thanks to TV apps on Kodi and I'm sure Plex.

Gave up trying, removed Plex and moved onto JellyFin. Works exceptionally well for what I need and accepts GPU transcoding.
