Picked-up a few of these last night and happy with the price and performance. At time of writing only Penrith, Katoomba and Menai have stock. Used it overnight in our bedrooms and happy with it. A quick look around for comparable bladeless fans and thought this is not a shabby deal.

The whole unit turns on its base like a turntable. Has a wireless remote.

Any comment on noise levels at low setting?

    • +20

It would have been funny if you'd written that in all caps.

      • +20

        WHAT?

    • Only 3 settings and for me, the noise level is acceptable - just air blowing.

      • +1

Air blowing noise levels vary significantly depending on design of device. Is it quieter than a well built blade fan?

        • +3

It would want to be because it puts out a lot less airflow than a $15 Bunnings Click fan.

Checking … and actually it is noisier too.

          https://www.choice.com.au/compareproducts/home-and-living/co…

That won't work for you. Take my word for it.

          • @shaybisc: That's a different model.

          • @shaybisc: Talking of $15 Bunnings fans that keep dying in their second year, can anybody suggest a decent quality brand for a box fan that will last.
I see so many of these land-fill cheap fans being dumped at the start of each summer as owners go to use them 18 months after they buy them and they won't run.

            • @scottishdave: We got Mitsubishi fans from harvey normal seconds shop and they are awesome. Made in Thailand

            • @scottishdave: Ah man I just bought one for $25 at cook any I love it but now you are making me sad haha. My sister has had one for over 20 years, they don't make them like they used to

            • @scottishdave: have a few of the Xiaomi Smartmi Pedestal they seem to be working well. But way more expensive than $15.

      • Hi can you confirm noise level is similar or better than blade fan I need it too have white noise

    • Check the review of the Dyson this is likely to be same or worse.

      https://youtu.be/dS0oFmzU06g

  • what i dont get is why it looks so big if it is just a normal fan? I get the motor is different but still so bulky for a normal fan

    • It is like a tower speaker about 1m in height. I think there is only 1 colour like iphone space grey.

  • How strong is the fan on the highest setting OP?

    • +1

Its hard to explain but to me it is stronger than I expected. Sorry can't be more descriptive than that.

      • +7

Srrong is very subjective 💪or 🦵

        • +8

          so is it 💪or 🦵?

  • +13

"produce a strong cool breeze that can cool most rooms". That's some magic technology for a fan.

  • +3

Have the Dyson design patents expired?

    • +1

Dyson's selling point is "no choppy air"

No blades, no choppy air. Air Multiplier™ technology amplifies surrounding air, giving an uninterrupted stream of smooth airflow.

There are blades, just that a Dyson's intake is on the bottom of the unit (cooler air sinks..) and the air is forced through vents, just like their hairdryer, intake has been moved to the base.

Not that hard to get "no choppy air", literally put a tube in front of any fan or redirect the airflow and it's no longer choppy (think about an aircon unit or your car's aircon)

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_multiplier

Remember that they had to make some changes to their original air multiplier design as it was too close in design to a patent Toshiba had lodged in the 1980s (although they never released a product), so this product could keep the design close the the Toshiba one as the patents would have expired for that.

The original air multiplier is over ten years old so it's patents may have expired too plus since the design was close to the Toshiba one, they don't tend to get long patent terms for designs that are deemed derivative.

    • +3

Nope Dyson patent is only on air multiplier. The hidden Blade design in the base housing was patented by a Japanese company in 1981, and has long expired. Dyson had to resubmit their patent after prior art was found.

I guess if your able to compromise with a weaker fan you can save hundreds of dollars.

  • Wonder how this compares with the Kmart 85 cm bladeless fan? On the face of it thats cheaper at 89$ and widely available going by thier online website.

    • +4

I considered kmart fan before buying from big w. I think both have the same functions but the big w one looks better around my house so happy to pay the small premium.

      • -3

🙄 frankly not a true ozbargainer

        • +2

It's a coat of many colours, brah

    • Haven't tried the Goldair myself, but I have the Kmart one. Compared to my cheap tower fan, the Kmart bladeless is louder and less effective.

  • Can the inside blades be cleaned easily?

    • There is no user serviceable parts, there is a filter at the rear of the base unit that should be vacuumed regularly. There is no access to the fan inside the base.

    Proceed to checkout just spinning

  • Not so great reviews at target

Have the dyson and bought one these for the holiday home. Dyson definitely better by 15-25% in terms strength of airflow.

But this so much better in terms value for money. Dyson cost over $500. Dyson also looks better aesthetically(subjective opinion) and feels much more robust. Weight and construction.

But considering you can buy 5 gold air for 1 Dyson. This is good enough for holiday home or spare room. Would definitely buy again

    • Dyson are noicey when run in lower settings. Not sure newer models addressed that issue.

    • That's great news! I have Dyson's too but need something cheap(er) like this for a spare room. Thanks for the feedback!

    • How do you compare the noise level on lowest setting for Dyson and this one?

  • Online only
    Delivery only

  • Its only 50W. Better get the one from Kmart for $89 and 65W

    • +1

It's better to buy air conditioner because fans are all rubbish. If your room is 40c and turn on the fan feels like 45c.

  • Has anyone found these to be alot louder than a DC motor pedestal ?

  • I want to buy as a present but $38 for delivery! Crazy

  • Went to Doncaster shop today and they had three available. But they refused to offer me the online price, and no price match. So disappointed.

    • Free Click and Collect is available at Craigieburn, South Yarra,Sunbury,Sunshine,Highpoint,Altona meadows, Melton &Lilydale

  • +1

If anyone still wants this delivered, it's available on their eBay page for essentially $30 delivery with the PLUSDEC5 code (ebay plus required) $30 is slightly more palatable than $38 lol.

At the same time, can anyone comment on whether the Kogan Premium DC Fan is better than the Xiaomi 2S Pedestal Fan? This heat is killing me.

  • I still haven't got notification to go collect

  • Target selling a similar one for $104 pickup.
    https://www.target.com.au/p/goldair-platinum-97cm-bladeless-…

  • I got it, pretty good for my PC Room.

I can see for those who like near silent operated fans this may be a bit too loud for them
