My grandfather used to say buy heaters in the summer and air conditioners in the winter for the best deal. This heater seems pretty good price for an LPG outdoor unit.

Your grandfather is very wise. Same theory with clothes I guess!

    • +2

Yes the old ones are wise in the way of the bargain.

  • +2

not a single one in existence

    • Yep, at least in Sydney…

  • +1

Shows up as $125 for me

  • +4

Do people still use these? Dont they use a 9kg bottle per night?

    • +1

I must be missing something. What's wrong with these?

      • -4

People should put on a jacket instead of trying to warm the outdoors with a gas powered heater…

        • +5

How about you add something to the conversation with links or facts instead of telling us to "check out France"

        • You know what else is banned in France?

          Common Sense

          • -1

@eman resu: Let's see what Paris Agreement leads to then..

            • -3

@Voi: Any agreement on climate that does not include China is irrelevant. The Chinese Communist Party is largest polluter on the planet as they control 80% of the centrally commanded economy in China. But hey lets pick on the Aussie battler trying to stay warm in the winter months.

              Makes sense!

            • @Voi: So you're saying stock up now?

It makes sense to ban trying to heat areas that arent insulated at all, but things like workshops and sheds, and 'built in' patios in homes make really good use of these.

    • +1

Ok then, so what other source of heat do you suggest that doesn't require 240v hmmm?

    • Let me guess you like the natural way with wood burning and smoke

        • +5

I dont have a wife. Can I hug yours or should I drink vodka first?

        • +4

You should be ashamed of yourself - using a computer and electricity for nothing critical! Or at all!
I don't like people telling me what I should do in my free time.
BTW, have you got the slightest idea how vodka is made?
Your neg should be revoked, as this is a deal. The fact that you do not like this particular product is irrelevant.

          • -3

@tm001: It's a terrible deal since the product is likely going to be banned soon :)

            • +2

@Voi: It is more environmentally friendly than the XBox you swapped for recently.

televisions produce more carbon dioxide (CO2) than patio heaters when normal use patterns are compared, insisted Dr Eric Johnson, National Expert Reviewer for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and managing director of Atlantic Consulting. See https://worldbulletin.dunyabulteni.net/archive/european-unio…

So you should get rid of the TV you were asking about in your last post if you really cared about making a difference to the environment.

              • -4

@eman resu: Yes? Maybe tell me what formula you used to calculate total emissions produced during manufacturing and utilisation. Xbox indeed requires some rare earth minerals, but once it's manufactured emissions stop there. With this thing, it just keeps producing them.

I'm not a green extremist - I just want to my kids to be able to enjoy life as our generations do. But this just simply won't be possible unless we stop heating the planet up..

                • +2

@Voi: See the article I posted. I leave the science to the scientists.

"Dr Johnson's assessment is based on Government figures putting emissions from all domestic patio heaters at 22,200 tonnes of CO2 - 0.002% of the total UK CO2 emissions.

Televisions in the UK produce 4.6 million tonnes of CO2 each year and, it is claimed, on stand-by mode alone, it would take an equivalent of more than five patio heaters to produce as much CO2 as one TV does in a year."

I agree that everyone should take steps to help the environment. But banning a product that uses LPG for heat is far less impactful then many of electronics we use in our daily lives.

                  • -1

@eman resu: What is a more sustainable replacement for TV? None.
For the outdoor heater - even electric heater is way better. There are alternatives.

Posting a deal for gas heater is similar to posting a deal for a car with a combustion engine. But (hopefully) everyone knows, that sooner or later only electric, hydrogen or other bio-diesel fuels will be allowed on the roads.

I actually am a scientist. Working for one of the big miners, where we are aiming to reduce our emissions by 50% in the near future. We are spending a lot of time to to convert industry which is responsible for a significant % of the global emissions to become green and sustainable. That's perhaps why it's annoying to see other people not playing in the same team - even more annoyingly, when many of them live on a decent level thanks to the taxes and salaries paid by the big miners.

                    • +2

@Voi: Here is a solution that will reduce Australian emissions by 98%.
                      Shut Down all the mines
Get a job on a wind far

                      and stop being a hypocrite

                      • @eman resu: Terrific idea. Then there will be no more outdoor heaters.

    • The French ban seems harsh right after Covid, particularly given people probably feel safer outside. All that aside, seems like this conversation is getting a little out of hand.

  • I'm looking for one that connects to natural gas however they all look to be LPG. Does anyone know of one? Thanks

    • For our stove, we had to get new nozzles on the burners to go from natural gas to LPG. It was a decade ago but from memory they were about $30 each

    • LPG burns hotter; I wonder if they're backward compatible, but not forward. I'd call a gas fella and check.
Once it's built for the more volatile one, perhaps it'll work on the less?

  • True but sometimes they aren't kept in stock as they need to make more floor space.

  • +1

Did you purchase this into oblivion? It's not even existent on BigW anymore. xD

    • +1

I got 7 and have them on 24 hours a day to contribute to fight against global cooling :P

      • 7..?
