Yeah, good discount, but we've got friends who have been burned by no refunds. It seems to be up to the host to decide if they want to refund or not.

    • Not really an issue if you choose an Airbnb with flexible cancellation policies.

      • +1

Is the issue the host refund policy or airbnb not refunding gift cards though?

      • +2

They did a segment on the radio a few weeks ago on this. From what I understand people's complaints were that they had to cancel bookings after the free cancellation date because Covid restrictions made it impossible to travel. The hosts were honoring the cancellations however airbnb were refusing to refund the service fees. Given service fees can be about 14% that is a significant sum of money to lose.

        • Gees thats scummy.

I had one of my most frustrating service experiences with AirBnb. I only use them if very desperate.

Pick reputed hosts with good reviews and check their policies beforehand. Same as eBay. Some are scammers.

      • +1

But the person above said the hosts were doing the right thing and AirBnb wouldn't refund the service fees.

  • Be careful guys these normally go fast driven by a few holiday hogs .

PSA, the accommodation I just stayed at was 800 bucks at booking.com compared to 1045 at airbnb for the exact same dates. So remember to shop around at stayz Expedia etc etc you might be surprised to find the same place at different prices.

+1 for booking.com. I've been using them a lot recently and have found that places on there are significantly cheaper when compared to Airbnb.

  • I have an air bnb booking for next year and I have paid 50% of it, can I use gift cards to pay for the difference?

    • -1

No, I asked Airbnb and they said "gift cards can only be applied when you first make the reservation. Once you have paid for the first half of a booking, the next payment will automatically be collected from the default payment method. There is no mechanism to apply a gift card to an existing reservation."

Yes you can. I have done it. Make sure you have redeemed all gcs in your Airbnb account. You can also make the second payment early if you want to.

  • Does this stack if I want to use multiple gift cards for the same transaction?

    • +1

The way it works is you redeem all gcs in your airBNB account and then your Airbnb will have those $$ as credit which you can use to pay one or multiple trips

  • How many cards can be used per transaction

    • -1

Looks like a pain in the a$$ one buying 1 at and time and repeating .
Should be buying 80 at a time .

    • Read my above comment.

  • What is the expiry?

    • Don't worry about expiry they are being smashed :)

      • relax, it's just airbnb

  • +1

I have just maxed out at 5 gift cards!

    • Same

    • Yep, have asked mods if description can be updated to show maximum of 5.

      • -1

        Or just ask OP.

  • PSA… You can only use 10 vouchers in a 24 hour period so don't leave it to the last day to pay off a large balance
