[PC, Epic] Free - Tomb Raider Trilogy (Rise of Tomb Raider: 20 Year, Shadow of Tomb Raider: DE, Tomb Raider: GOTY) @ Epic Games

12740

The Fooah freebie finale, possibly saving the best to last…. The Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy! Cannot wait to play these, I believe I have one or two of them across different platforms, but having all 3 on one is very enticing!

Xbox Bio:
Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy is the complete edition of the award-winning Tomb Raider origin games. This collection contains all the definitive edition content from each critically acclaimed prequel title—Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. Follow Lara on her formative journey across the world, starting in Tomb Raider trapped on the shrouded island of Yamatai off the coast of Japan, to the harsh Siberian tundra hiding an immortal secret in Rise of the Tomb Raider, and finally to the mountainous landscape of Peru to uncover a cataclysmic power in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. With all the definitive edition content from each game, this Trilogy promises dozens of hours of breathtaking exploration, challenging puzzle-solving, and survival combat with Lara as she becomes the Tomb Raider she was destined to become.

Cool, finally worked for me when I try redeem from Epic Game Launcher, took quite a few try though :)

  • Great games. I played both 1 and 2 over the span of 2 weeks. Unfortunately got burnt out and couldn't finish 3.

    • +2

I think 3 is just a bit underwhelming somehow.
I don't know why because it's beautiful and has all the elements from the previous games and more. But for some reason I just can't bring myself to finish it.

      • +1

I think they handled the mystical/supernatural elements in 2013 and Rise better. Shadow started getting a bit silly with the whole Mayan apocalypse/end of the world thing.

      • Even the actors where phoning it in for TR3, Lara Croft voice actress who had then been in USA for too long was having trouble maintaining her accent and too much of the voice lines where in American without the director getting her to redo them.

  • Sweet. Some of these were Xbox exclusives which made me forget about then when they released on PC

  • LOL Epic server is hammered. Must be too many people trying to download this trilogy.

  • +3

I got all of them in my steam account, excellent games!
EPIC is a legend, just wondering how Epic makes money from those freebies. so far, I have only spent less than $200 on EPIC but got 20 high-quality games in the library already, for me, Epic is perfect, but for the game developers, really hard to tell.

    • +3

They’re fine for developers. The freebies are paid for by epic in what I believe is a lump sum payment (so number of downloads doesn’t change what they pay). They sell games at a lower rate than many other platforms and are willing to spend money on exclusives.

That said the platform doesn’t seem to be making a stack of cash for third parties. From their reports last year the revenue per user account was very low. From memory something like $1.50 to $2.00 of annual revenue per user. Of the revenue they made I think over half was Epic releases with Fortnite being far and away the biggest winner on the platform. The rest of that sub 50% revenue was then split across all third parties.

If you’re publishing on multiple platforms then having Epic as one might not hurt as you pay a low percentage on sales. I imagine doing an exclusive deal with Epic would be a hard choice as people aren’t spending money on third party titles on the platform, so you’d probably want a very sweet deal from Epic to limit your market to just those spending cash on Epic and foregoing Steam. That’s ultimately the devs decision but.

  • Second attempt I managed to get them all using the epic games client not browser.

    Good luck all.

    • Always got free games from browser no problem at all.

      • Normally I do too but this time it kept giving me errors and other countries websites so I tried it via client and it worked.

I think this one was just super popular.

Both should work no problems probably.

Happy new year have a good one.

  • This should be a highlighted deal.

  • +2

Finally. I managed to place all the Tomb Raider games in the cart and i was able to successfully checkout.

    Thanks and good luck.

    • Happy days, cheers!

  • Claimed them all on the first attempt (except for Shadow which required a page refresh) on Firefox, which surprised me! I absolutely loved the first game so super excited to try out the sequels. Talk about a late Christmas present!

    • +1

Also loved the first 2013 Reboot game, because it was a new concept at that time from the older TR game series, plus Lara was still young, vulnerable and adorable. However there haven't been much new gameplay in the next two games (RotTR and SofTR), so some people started to feel a bit repetitive and boring. I myself haven't played SofTR yet.

  • +2

nice! epic site seems to be working now. checkout went ok.

    thanks!

    • No problem at all, cheers!

  • +3

Love the camera angles in these games.. if you know what I mean

  • +1

I keep getting shadow of the tomb raider being in my library - when it isn't. odd.

  • +2

I haven't played the 3'rd but the first 2 are very good.

  • Server working fine. Thanks OP/Epic.

Any suggestions which order to play these?

    • +2

Obviously, 1, 2 and 3 in this trilogy.

      • -2

        @edfoo not super helpful….

Looking at the initial release date, it's as below I guess.

        1.Tomb Raider GOTY
        2. Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
3.Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration

        • +4

That's not the order of the initial release dates.

          1. Tomb Raider (2013)
          2. Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015)
          3. Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018)
          • +2

@iglot: Correct, not a hard puzzle to work out the order, otherwise you'll have great trouble solving some of the puzzles in these games.

  • Got these now, absolutely stoked, thanks for the post OP.
Thanks for the free games during the impending lockdown Epic!

    • +1

      No problem at all, cheers!

  • I can't add the game. First I tried to sign in with Facebook and it failed. So I reset the password and now it shows "in my library" when I try to add it but it is not there. Has anyone else had this issue?

    • +1

I had the best success using my phone to redeem then checking my PC if they were in my library.

Don't stress if there are issues, we have a week to redeem!

      • +1

I found out the issue. Somehow I already had gotten this game for free in the past. When I ran the launch app on the pc I can see the game.

  • +4

Good timing for 6 months self isolation to avoid omi

    • +1

      Probably more than 6 months

    • Where do you live where there's law requiring you for 6 month isolation? Are you currently tested positive for COVID-19?

  • +2

    EPIC! YES ! ! !

  • Never played any of these. Does the original Tomb Raider still play well all these years later?

    • +1

The 2013-18 Tomb Raider trilogy are some of the best games ever played. As for the previous games. The original 5 Tomb Raider games (1996-2000), released in the PS1/early Windows era are still ok. Its just there clunky tank controls and blocky graphics that doesn't hold up too well. The previous 2006-2008 trilogy are also great games. Hold up well and are still very playable.

    • Those are very good games. If you like uncharted series you will love them.

      • Not a huge player of games so never played that - I just remember trying to get into Witcher 3 and finding the learning curve something I didn't have the time or inclination to accept. I'll give this a shot though!

        • Witcher is deeper than this one. I played the 2013 one in a Xbox 360 and even with bad graphics I had a very good time with it.

          • @Dienk: Yeah the game looked good, I just couldn't really invest the time to learn the strategy etc. Hopefully this is different!

    • +1

I'm a big fan of the Anniversary remake of the first game. It's on sale for $1.42 over at the Steam store.

      https://store.steampowered.com/app/8000/Tomb_Raider_Annivers…

  • Damn… I bought the first two on steam a month ago

  • Can OzBargain cope with the number of +'s getting into four digits??

    • No it can't.

      Source: Previous 1000+ deals.

  • +2

I bought Shadow of the Tomb Raider to test out my new RTX3070 system 6 months ago. Cranked up the settings and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of this game. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Trying to get through The Witcher 3 at the moment and it is so boring and clunky compared to Tomb Raider.

    • I also have a 3070, cannot wait to delve in!

    • +1

SofTR is a 3 year old game, RTX3070 has no trouble running it at 1440p at Very High/Ultra setting.
If you also own a Oculus/Meta Quest 2, try running it in 3D. Should work on SteamVR, but not sure if Epic versions will also work:
      RofTR in 3D - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDkvKRXGph0&t=1740s
      SofTR in 3D - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gwlMMa8y5M&t=982s

      • I do have a quest, didnt realise this was a thing. Thanks Foo

      • I had a look at those youtube videos but I couldn't tell the difference between the non-VR and the VR videos :)
Ironically I guess you will need a VR headset to actually experience the VR and a flat monitor won't do it justice.

        • Correct. I watched those YouTube videos on my Quest 2, selecting SBS 3D mode. Obviously the resolution looks crap in comparison to playing the game in 2D on a flat screen.

  • Managed to claim on my desktop browser too. Thanks for this, spectacular freebie!

    • No problem at all!

  • Played the first two and thoroughly enjoyed them. Haven't had a chance to get into the last game so this is a nice late Christmas present.

  • Unpopular opinion but Shadow is my favorite of the 3, followed by 2013 then Rise.

On a side note, these are nicely optimized and quite scalable -they play decently in my MacBook Pro 16" via bootcamp (when I'm away from my main consoles at home).

    • Plays amazing on my 16" M1 Max. Sadly though not really digging Rise, seems to be crafting focused which I don't remember as much really in the 2013 TR. Does Shadow have crafting too?

  • +3

So many free games…so little time to play them :(

    • +1

Yep, teenage me would love all these games.

  • Jeez, how are they able to afford to give all these games away for free. Like actually free, not like PS and Xbox where you are basically renting it

    • Fortnite makes excess billions in profit & they get 5% of all profits from every game using Unreal Engine.

  • +1

Worked for me on my iPhone.

  • +3

Epic AAA giveaway from Epic…… As good as the Batman Arkhan Trilogy and GTA V.

  • +1

I love collecting these games, i have installed the epic game launcher just so i can see my collection of shame.

    • +1

Can relate, "I have nothing to play"…. As I look for more bargain games with a full EGS library.

      • +1

I have yet to install any and all a greyed out lol f my life.

        • +1

          Peaking

  • Worked perfectly just now… all 3 redeemed with no issues at all. Thanks very much OP!

    • No problem, happy gaming :)

  • I can't seem to redeem Rise of the Tomb Raider as it states "IN LIBRARY" but i don't/. Strange!

    • Oddly enough I had the same thing then it popped in my library the next day.

  • Cheers!

    • No problem. Enjoy, mate.

  • Error occured on checkout.. anyone else have issues?

    • +1

      Mobile works best from experience/commenters.

  • 1 overall is the best I'd say, but it does lack the polish and visuals of 2 and 3. It has some nice tinges of horror and the exploration and story are cohesive.

2 has the best gameplay & gunplay & is a big step up graphically. Plot is classic b-grade video game tier.

3 has some cool mechanics (cover yourself in mud and hunt people predator style? Yes please) but it only gives you a few opportunities to use them. Combat is much lower in this game and there's a whole 1/3 to 1/2 of the game where you're stripped of your equipment entirely. The plot is also a total mess.

  • Far out, I missed out :(

    • +1

Oh man, how is it possible? Almost a week here.
