      It depends on what you're after - if you're on a budget and already in an AM4 system this might be 'cheaper' than an intel swap, likewise if you are after a CPU with integrated graphics the 5600G and 5700G are without peer and have only been available for the 359-379 range for a few months

      B450,B550 and X570 boards are also far cheaper than intel offerings (there was a Gigabyte B550M board on here yesterday for $51.75)

        Yep, that makes sense. I was thinking about the 5600x range for a new PC when compared to i5-11400, 11500 & 11600, Even 11600 + M/B would be cheaper than 5600x at this price. I got a 5600x + M/B for $400 couple of months back but I couldn't find a cheaper Intel alternative at that price. From my experience, the price of a good cooler should be considered when getting an AMD. It was heating as hell and down locked automatically so that I had get a cooler as well :(.

            @NikeGS: FYI you are most likely getting a wraith stealth for various mid tier AMD CPU. which is very much like a intel stock cooler:
            small piece of crushed aluminum with no cooper contact core in middle, and a rather small fan.

              @OMGJL: The coolers may be comparable, but the heat and power draw of the mid tier CPUs aren't - 65W TDP for 5600X and 150W TDP for 12600k (granted the way they measure TDP isn't identical either)

                @themilkmanbot: how are you comparing 12600k(no stock cooler) vs 5600x(with wraith stealth)?

                The point is that wraith stealth is just as bad as intel stock cooler, regardless of what CPU.

                if you really after CPU performance which make no sense for cooler comparison:
                from what I tested myself, 11600k full stress with AVX2 (no CPU lite load) = ~150w, with lite load will bring it to around 120w. 5600x PBO full stress with AVX2 = ~120w, with curve optimizer will bring it to around 100w. keep in mind AMD is more annoying to cool than Intel with smaller die size.

                so if you get 11600,11500,11400 which all runs slower than 11600k, with lower frequency it will naturally generate less heat, assuming it would be around 120w too, either intel stock cooler nor wraith stealth is capable to cool 100 or 120w. in normal room temperature

          Intel chips run far hotter than AMD ones these days. The AMD heatsink is also a bit annoying to install, it needs to be tighter than you think when installing to get good contact and you should turn off precision boost overdrive with a stock heatsink.

          Intel chips throttle a lot more to keep the heat down, but that's at the cost of performance. There's tonnes of stories online about 11600 throttling at high temps even with good heatsinks.

        If you are using a dGPU, 11400F and the cheapest motherboard you can find that supports it. No reason to go AMD atm with these prices, and I'm saying this as an AMD stan.

                5600G is about 30 point better(596 vs 565) in CPUz CPU benchmark. Not to mention 5600G could be OCed further in both CPU and RAM department. (11400f is locked on CPU, memory can be OCed to around 3733 the most before loosing efficiency, whereas 5600g can easily do 4533+ mem OC on a cheap low end mobo)

                Ryzen 5 5600G = $322.15, B550m S2H is around 80 dollar, final = 402.15, 11400f ($249) + B560m ($99) = $348

                single core performance is what determines if a CPU should still be kept on using or not, $50 is very much justifiable especially you want to explore memory OC.

            It's ~ 18% more performance per core. A 12400f would outperform an 11700k

    In the current market that 5600G with integrated GPU is a great buy for normal pc use/light gaming. The integrated graphics is GTX 1030 equivalent which retails for $140+

    Unfortunately Intel has stepped up their game with the 12th gen processors. Don't think these CPU's are worth it unless there's a heftier discount as the Ryzen 5000 series is aging to be 2 years almost.

      I'd agree with this, not for the 12th gen processors but for the discount it has forced on 10th and 11th gen processors. The combination of motherboard costs and DDR5 cost and availability is making 12th gen uncompetitive from a price point of view - B660 boards will hopefully alleviate this

      The 3000 was cheap, while still being pretty good. The 3600 was especially popular. The 5000 are better CPUs, but at no point were they cheap. No low end 3 series for 5000. No non X.

      At least the 5000Gs are kind of okay, but then no GE variants, or 3 series. They are at least available compared to the 4000Gs and named in a way that we can more easily understand what generation they're from.

      As for Intel, the i5 (1)2600k could well be the new 2600k, but is it going to be popular? Are people buying right now? Motherboards for the 12th gen aren't cheap. Do you need a new cooler? DDR5 is too expensive. Will people wait because of all of that?

        That's pretty spot on why I'm looking at upgrading to a 5900X over a 12700K.

        The 12700K is $50 cheaper, but add on $250 for a Z690 DDR4 board then maybe another <$100 for a LGA1700 compatible cooler (no plans for that on my current MA620M) and I'm not sure if the better performance is worth the extra $300 price.

      Cheapest 12th gen is the 12600kf at about $450. Cheapest DDR4 mainboard you can get for it is about $300. For the same price you could get a 5800X and a $150 board. And they perform about the same.

      Once the cheaper Intel boards come round and they fill out their product lines they might have a noticeable advantage but right now for the average consumer it's basically even.

        Budget buys right now kinda suck, IMO. AMD's offerings are overpriced, with Intel you're looking at 10th gen performance since 11 sucked and the 12600 isn't really budget. Plus the 12400 and AMD's refresh are around the corner which I reckon will result in buyer's remorse unless the 12400 happens to defy expectations and is awful (or the budget motherboards are bad), giving AMD no reason to compete on value.

      CES is moments away so we will hopefully know soon, however for the higher end CPUs the value aspect is possibly less important for a professional user or the type of buyer who wants 'the best' without much care for the cost. This takes a bit of a sheen off of the current flagships and the sellers are incentivised to shift product before the next release

      Assuming you have a dedicated GPU, the 5600X is generally considered to be the best performing value Ryzen CPU (paired with a B450 or B550 board)

      User Benchmark is a handy resource for comparing CPUs across platforms and generations

      As mentioned above, a 10th or 11th gen Intel would probably be better value if you're changing out the board anyway

    I had a 3900X that unfortunately failed. Finally ninja.buy agreed to a refund (horrible process dealing with them). The 3900X had a cooler with it. I'm now getting a 5900X which doesn't come with a cooler. Thoughts on what to get. Not looking to overclock but do want the computer rock-solid as use it all the time.

        That was one that I was definitely considering although was seriously considering an AIO which these days seems to offer better bang for buck (it appears that way to me anyway).

          Yeah, the AIOs are now cheaper than the high end air coolers (DRP4 is 139, NH-D15 is 159 or 179 in black). I don't have any experience with AIOs so will leave that up to the experts

          Just on the pricing, consider that the AIO will eventually break down, but air coolers (especially from Noctua) tend to last the functional life of a few computer cycles (depending on how often you upgrade) and they will give you any new mounting brackets required for free

      How did you find the original 3900x air cooler, like me very noisey but found led lightning effects on these from AMD was great? I went straight to water cooling hate noisey rigs,..

      Edit: went with a 280 Arctic Liquid Freezer II water cooling,.. does the job well should be better on a 5900x, on idle all fans stop spinning, temps from 50c upwards, RGB versions on Amazon I seen last week I think under $200 on special, 360s higher if you can fit one in your case👍😁

    What cooler would you guys recommend for the 5800x? I'm currently using the stock cooler for my 2600. Would this be sufficient for gaming or would i need to upgrade.

      2600 TDP is 65 watts vs 105 watts on the 3800x. The 2600 cooler isn't designed to dissipate that much heat but you would still probably be fine for gaming.

      Like many, for aftermarket coolers I think the Noctuas are great. If you want air and have the space for it go the D14, or U12S is a bit smaller but pretty much just as good. Buy one and then never buy another cooler again :)

      Yup - using the Ebay Plus deal you could get a 11400F (242.25 from Scorptec) plus MSI B560M-A PRO board (74.80 from Harris Technology) = 317.05

      If you already have a compatible AM4 motherboard or no dedicated GPU though, its not as clear

    The way I would look at it is we know that the 3D cache chips are going to be released imminently. Therefore we can expect that with that, and the intel chips, the price has further to fall.
