Here we go again, 30x .. offer (like to think) may be later this month

    • +4

I really like optimists, but you may be taking the concept a little too far

    • +6

As much as I want to see back 30x (or even more), I think we won't be seeing it anytime soon. Once people know these can be bought to buy Apple hardware they will not be allowing discounts as heavy as before.

    • I’m waiting for the larger iMac so hoping a 30x arrives before March.

I imagine when/if it comes it will be targeted by professionals and cards will be gone before the sale even starts.

      • +1

        targeted by professionals

A crack team of Apple enthusiasts… I wonder what their secrets are… reminds me of those long iPhone queues back in the day

    • They had this about once a month from 8/21 to 10/21 and none ever since. I wouldn’t be surprised if they won’t do anymore. I’ve been waiting for this offer so personally don’t think its worth waiting longer for something that may not come

    • +1

No way… with newer cards being able to purchase hardware, 20x would be the max we can expect which is a solid 10% off.

      • it was 30x when first launched which worked with hardware, however it hasn't been repeated

  • Thanks Dealbot for always coming through

    • +1

Otherwise we’d never hear about these deals!

      Get two AirPods… stereo is a game-changer

  • Collected 60,000 qantas points with the 30x when I bought my iPhone

    • +1

Presuming this would be for a purchase more than just 1 iPhone? (Or did you mean 60,000 Everyday Rewards points)

Assuming you bought the most expensive iPhone 13 Pro Max at $2,719, rounding up to $2,800 for an accessory/being generous.

      1) Purchase $2,800 worth of Apple Cards with the 30x multiplier = 84,000 Everyday Rewards points. 84,000 Everyday Rewards points converts 2000:1000 to QFF, so 42,000 QFF earned with the promotion.
      2) Assume you're using the highest Qantas Credit Card earn card (Qantas Premier Titanium), with 2 QFF points earned per dollar spent = 5,600 QFF points

Total of 47,600 Qantas Frequent Flyer Points?

  • Coles vs Woolworths any differences/benefit or they are exactly same?

Can someone also confirm if these gift cards work for AOC store and does AOC store has the Airpods offer? can't find it on the AOC site

    • +2

I recently transitioned everything to Apple and I did it through getting a butt load of "home" gift cards, converting them to Apple gift cards through JB stores, then loading it up onto my Apple ID balance, then using AOC

      • Hi, so you are saying you are able to purchase Apple gift cards with the Home gift cards at JB?

        • +1

          Yup

        • +2

The only known restriction on the use of TCN or Ultimate gift cards at JB Hi-Fi is that they cannot be used to purchase JB Hi-Fi gift cards.

TCN and Ultimate gift cards are really just EFTPOS or Visa gift cards that can only be redeemed at a small number of locations, so all you need to tell the staff at the store is you want to pay using a card, not gift card.

          • @WookieMonster: In this instance you would have pay for 1 $100 apple gc with 1 Home card, multiple times? So if get a macbook could 16 times!

            • +1

@ClaudeVL: You could do that, or you could get the staff member to scan multiple $100 or $200 Apple gift cards and then tell the staff member you’d like to do pay using multiple cards. At least one OzBargainer had plenty of success doing that.

There isn’t a known limit on the number of TCN or Ultimate gift cards you can use in one transaction, because they’re simply processed just like any card from a bank or other financial institution. Another OzBargainer once used 81 TCN/Ultimate gift cards to pay for an item at JB Hi-Fi. There’s also plenty of other stories on this site from other OzBargainers where JB Hi-Fi will allow you to redeem 20 or 30 TCN or Ultimate gift cards in one transaction.

    • Coles vs Woolworths any differences/benefit or they are exactly same?

There’s no difference between Coles and Woolworths in terms of the value of the points (i.e. you’ll be given 10% of the gift card’s value in the form of Flybuys points or Everyday Rewards points, respectively).

The Woolworths offer theoretically has no points cap, whereas the Coles offer has a 45000 points cap (which means you’ll only earn bonus points on the first $2250 worth of gift cards you’ll purchase during that offer).

Can someone also confirm if these gift cards work for AOC store

      Yes, it does.

does AOC store has the Airpods offer?

No, it doesn’t. It is a special EPP portal for Australian Education Union members, and is not listed as a Qualifying Location in the deal terms.

    • +1

AOC store doesn't have the airpods offer. It's for the official education store only.

Whats the highest denomination for the variable card?

    • Is there a max number of points per rewards cards for this offer like the fly buys offer?

No, there is no points cap.

Whats the highest denomination for the variable card?

      $500

      • So I can get $500x10=$5000 max spend
        $5000x20=100 000 points on 1 rewards card
        Edit:
Its 10 cards per day so I can get 100 000 points per day on the same card multiple times across different days?

        • +2

In theory, that should be correct.

In practice, I doubt you’ll be able to hit 100,000 points per day for one account, because:

          • If you scan more than $1000 in gift cards in one transaction at a self-service checkout, it will ask for senior staff (e.g. manager) approval, and it is generally easier to have that done at a serviced checkout.

          • If you ask a staff member at a serviced checkout to sell you more than $1000 or $1500 in gift cards in one transaction, they may also ask you for ID or a tax file number, as their systems request they at least record some details on who you are. Gift card purchases at that scale strongly hint at money laundering, falling victims to scammers or someone attempting to acquire enough gift cards to pay for a 16” M1 MAX MacBook Pro, and staff won’t know for sure which category you’d fall into.

          • Some store managers or duty managers can enforce their own limits in respect to purchases of gift cards, even though the limit listed in this deal is 10 per transaction. For example, I went to one Woolworths in my area during one Apple gift card campaign, and the duty manager said the maximum Apple gift cards he would sell to customers was $300 per day… As you can tell, some managers are more cautious about gift card scams or fraud than others.

However, in my experience, Apple gift cards usually don’t sell that quickly during 20x points campaign from Coles, Woolworths or BIG W, so you may not have too many problems finding variable load gift cards… unless the people in your area are crazy!

          • @WookieMonster: Thanks for the tips, good to keep that in mind.
That would be annoying if their terms and condition states otherwise but the manager goes out of their way to say they can only sell as little as $300? Could they be bothered dealing with a complaint where they got no grounds for?
This is my first time doing so…so to know exactly how much in buy in gift cards I would simply purchase put all the items in the apply store and buy the equivalent amount in gift cards to pay for them in store?
I am planning to buy a few things plus accessories

            • +1

              @Purkulator:

Could they be bothered dealing with a complaint where they got no grounds for?

Based on the duty managers or store managers I’ve interacted with, they most likely won’t care if you complained about it, even if you point out the fine print in the catalogue. Woolworths head office tends to give them some leeway on how they run their stores, which isn’t helpful for us… I’ve talked to Woolworths’ customer service hotline once about this, and their response was basically, “store managers and duty managers are able to set their own limits, even if the catalogue states otherwise.”

I think you’ll need to pace yourself and limit yourself to $2500 or $3000 in a single transaction, and then go to a different store to acquire more gift cards. I’ve never heard of a manager approve of a $5000 gift card sale in a single transaction at Woolworths, but I guess you could try and let us know how you go!

so to know exactly how much in buy in gift cards I would simply purchase put all the items in the apply store and buy the equivalent amount in gift cards to pay for them in store?

You will need to determine the amount you want to spend at Apple, and then you’ll need to purchase that amount in Apple gift cards from Woolworths through this deal.

I would suggest you check with Apple first to see what the limit is for the number of gift cards you can redeem in a single transaction in a physical Apple store. I know the gift card limit on the Apple Online Store is 8 per transaction, but you can get around that by adding the gift cards to your Apple Account Associated Balance first, and then using that Balance to pay for items on the Apple Online Store. However, you cannot use the Balance to pay for items if you’re in a physical Apple Store, so you have been warned…

Keep in mind the variable load gift card can be loaded with any amount between $20 and $500, so (for example) if you need to spend $3279 at Apple, you can get exactly $3279 in gift cards from Woolworths.

              • @WookieMonster: I think I'll go to the counter upfront and be honest to say I'm planning on a big purchase and want to use gift cards for a discount and how much max they are comfortable to sell.
So for $3279 spend can't you do 6x$500+$279? I assuming any amount between $20-500 is doable

                • @Purkulator:

I think I'll go to the counter upfront and be honest to say I'm planning on a big purchase and want to use gift cards for a discount and how much max they are comfortable to sell.

Sounds reasonable, although a staff member could think you were coached by a phone scammer to say exactly that! But yeah, be honest, highlight the fact that there’s a deal in the catalogue and see how much they will sell to you.

So for $3279 spend can't you do 6x$500+$279? I assuming any amount between $20-500 is doable

                  Yes, that’s correct.

                  • @WookieMonster: How do the variable load cards work? I assume you bring them to the counter and they manually enter the amount you request per card, is that correct?

                    • +1

                      @Purkulator: Yes.

When a variable load Apple gift card is scanned at the checkout, the checkout will ask the amount you will like to load onto the gift card, and staff will then need to manually key in the amount.

If you do this at a self-service checkout at Woolworths or Woolworths Metro, you will require staff approval before you can manually key in an amount.

                      • +1

@WookieMonster: Just bought $2000 worth no questions asked. Might buy more later didn't want to go overboard on first go

  • How much % discount it works out to be? Anyone know?

  • What happens to the points if the gift cards are returned after?

    • Nothing because you can't return gift cards.

    • At Woolworths, you can only initiate a return transaction for gift cards for one of the following reasons:

@kerfuffle has pointed out that change of mind refunds are definitely not possible at Woolworths. (Well, I know that’s what they were trying to say.)

You’ll keep the Everyday Rewards points from the original transaction, even if you scan your Everyday Rewards card or the barcode on the original purchase receipt to initiate the return transaction. Make sure to scan your Everyday Rewards card again on the transaction where Apple gift cards are being issued, because you’ll be credited bonus points again, so you’ll end up with 40x bonus points…

  • +7

Don’t forget that the colorful apple logo on gift card is a sticker now.

  • I have a 5x total points booster this week. I recall some people saying these were triggered by the gift cards as well? Experiences?

    • I purchased an Apple gift card in Nov 2021 from Woolworths and it triggered a booster where I had to spend a minimum amount each week for three weeks to get bonus points at the end of the three weeks.

However, it is likely Everyday Rewards have patched their systems by now, so I doubt any boosters would be triggered by an Apple gift card purchase. Who knows, though!

      • +1

I can confirm that this still works. I had an offer of spend $210 to receive 1600 bonus points which I received after buying a $500 Apple gift card and $20 or so of various groceries. I’m not sure if buying something other than a gift card in the transaction is necessary but this was also the case when it last happened to me in November.

Thank you Dealbot, picked up some cards this morning and ordered MBP with free airpods this morning, if anyone is ACT is looking for some cards there were plenty in Dunlop woolworths this morning.

I'm doing the same today. Grabbed some from Coles last night before the FlyBuys offer expired, and the rest from WW later this morning :)

  • Dealbot coming through with the goods yet again.

I’m really sorry to ask, but would anyone happen to have a link to an Ozb comment/post that explains how to go through the process of getting enough cards to cover the cost of a more substantial Apple hardware product (MBP) from beginning to end?

I had a look through the AirPods post that linked through to a coles flybuys deal which was helpful but my smooth brain couldn’t piece together the bits of info and how this can translate to Everyday rewards program.

    Tl,dr; brain small pls help

This is what Im doing based on others comments - am buying a M1 Max MBP 16inch plus Airpods3.

Bought $2250 of Apple Cards from Coles (max 45k flybuys) - add them to my Apple Account Balance.
Buy $2750 of Apple Cards from WW (55k of points) - this will be 6 cards so below the 8 card maximum onine.
Go online to purchase - use my Account Balance + Cards to Pay (or add my WW cards to the Balance and just pay that way).

  • Can we actually redeem rewards points for more than $10? With flybuys you can redeem them for gift cards or a total amount iirc but with this one i can only see a $10 option apart from qantas transfer or christmas shopping.

    • +1

Yes, assuming you’re not trying to buy an excluded product in that transaction.1

If you’re at a self-service checkout at Woolworths or BIG W, there will be an option to redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars, and you can choose how many multiples of $10 you would like to redeem in the transaction.

      1. Excluded products are all smoking products, gift cards (including Woolworths WISH Gift Cards, e-gift cards and iTunes), mobile recharge, Woolworths Mobile, travel cards, tickets, cash outs, delivery charges, donations, lottery products, Carpet Care, Pre-Order Kiosks, BIG W Photos, BIG W eBay, lay-by-fees and purchases using a StarCard or AmpolCard, a Country Age Pension Fuel Card or on a charge account.

  • Someone mentioned they got a macbook air down to $996.

How would i go about doing this?
    1. Create an everyday rewards account
    2. Purchase $1350 worth of gift cards from woolworths using the everyday rewards card?
    3. Go to apple edu site and buy the macbook air with free airpods.
    4. Sell free airpods on ebay.

    Am i missing anything?

    • +3

The steps look right, but I’ll add some comments for each step.

      Step 1

If you sign up for a new Everyday Rewards account using this link, you’ll get 1500 bonus points as a sign-up bonus. (I grabbed that link from a Woolworths receipt I picked up a few days ago.)

      Step 2

Please please please make sure you scan your Everyday Rewards card before you finish paying for the Apple gift cards, otherwise you’re reliant on a goodwill gesture from Everyday Rewards to get your bonus points.

The $500 Apple gift card is actually a variable load gift card for which you can load any amount between $20 and $500. There’s nothing stopping you loading $349 on one of those gift cards.

      Step 3

The limit for the number of Apple gift cards you can redeem in one transaction is 8. To get around this limit, you can add Apple gift cards to your Apple Account Associated Balance first, then use that Balance to pay for a Mac.

      Step 4

Keep in mind that a lot of people will probably be trying to do the same thing as you and sell AirPods on the second-hand market, so don’t expect to get the full $219 back if you’re selling 2nd generation AirPods. That will mean the Mac will end up costing a little more than $996.

      • +1

Thanks for that! I already made an everyday rewards account but i'll try and make a new one with a different email.

        • +1

You many need another mobile number for OTP.

  • Can I purchase a Woolworths e-gift card elsewhere then use that to purchase an Apple gift card and still get 20 x points per dollar spent?

    • +1

      No.

Woolworths patched their checkout systems in late 2018 to finally stop people from using Woolworths Group gift cards to pay for any gift cards at Woolworths. I say finally, because Woolworths Group made attempts before late 2018 to automatically block this, but people were finding loopholes.

If you swipe or scan a gift card or enter a gift card number at the checkout in a transaction where you’re purchasing any gift card, you will be blocked. Many OzBargainers have tried recently (at Woolworths and BIG W) with no luck.

I tend to find that Woolworths staff are well-trained in this area and they’ll (politely) remind you about this too.

The only way you may be able to use Woolworths Group gift cards to pay for any gift cards at Woolworths going forward is if Woolworths make major changes to their checkout systems or give you a new way to pay for transactions.

Wanted to share my experience in case it helps….
    * went to Woolworths Thursday night and bought 7 x variable cards for $500 each.
    * went to an actual checkout and it didn’t seem to want to put more than $1000k of gift cards through at a time even after server called over senior manager.
    * They were more than willing to sell me the cards but system wouldn’t let them.
    * they just moved me to a closed register (to not hold up the line further) and proceeded to put the sales through in 4 separate transactions. At this point I was worried my credit card provider would block my card for suspicious activity but it didn’t.
    * then loaded cards to my online balance
    * went to Apple store the next day (I booked a shopping appointment). Placed an online order on one of their display laptops for a new one (obviously logged in to my own account), used online balance, paid the difference (turns out I should have maybe bought another $500 card as ended up buying MacBook Pro)
    * they said would be about a 15 min wait.
    * walked out with my new purchase about 20 mins later.

I went to Woolworths today and was advised that the I cannot buy gift card by using Rewards points.

    • +2

buying the gift card gives you rewards points, not the other way around.

      • I have been using the Rewards points to pay for Woolworths shopping and fuel. I wasn't aware that I cannot use rewards points to pay for gift card.
Just found the answer from them, https://www.woolworthsrewards.com.au/support.html?id=56

        Block-quote
        What does 'Eligible Shop’ mean?
If you've chosen to enjoy money off your shop, an 'Eligible Shop’ is a shop in which you can enjoy your savings in-store or online at Woolworths, Everyday Market from Woolworths, BWS, BIG W and participating Caltex Woolworths/EG (operated by Euro Garages Australia)^. If your shop on woolworths.com.au includes both grocery and Everyday Market from Woolworths products, then your ‘Eligible Shop’ is the total shop (i.e. total of your groceries and Everyday Market from Woolworths products) in which you can enjoy your savings.

If you have more than $10 Everyday Rewards dollars to enjoy (e.g. $20 Everyday Rewards dollars) but you spend more than $10 but less than $20 (excluding any excluded purchases), you will receive $10 off your shop and the remaining balance of $10 Everyday Rewards dollars will remain in your account for future use.

You will be asked how much you want to spend at the checkout. You can choose to stagger your savings across shops in multiples of $10 off.

*Excluded purchases are: any money spent on smoking products, gift cards, mobile recharge, Woolworths Mobile, travel cards, tickets, cash outs, delivery charges, donations, lottery products, Carpet Care, Pre-Order Kiosks, BIG W Photos, BIG W eBay, lay-by-fees, a Country Age Pension Fuel Card, a charge account or purchases on an ineligible StarCard or AmpolCard account. Purchases on an eligible StarCard or AmpolCard will not collect bonus points. Call Ampol Customer Service on 1300 365 096 to check StarCard or AmpolCard eligibility and eligible StarCard or AmpolCard points collection rates.

^Currently you cannot enjoy your Everyday Rewards dollars at Caltex Woolworths/EG Australia in Tasmania. There are also a small number of Caltex Woolworths/EG Australia in mainland Australia where you won’t be able to enjoy your Everyday Rewards dollars.
