The new Xiaomi Pad 5 was very popular in the previous deal and now it's on sale again for a cheaper price than before. This is available in Pearl White or Cosmic Gray with the 256GB storage variant available for Cosmic Gray at US$387.50.

Out of the box the tablet has Widevine L1 DRM for FHD Netflix/Amazon Prime, an impressive 11" 2560x1600 120Hz IPS display with 600nit brightness, HDR, Dolby Vision and DCI-P3 support. It features MIUI 12.5 for Tablets (Android 11) with Google Play, 6GB RAM, 128GB UFS 3.1 storage and packs the high-end Sanpdragon 860 CPU with an Adreno 640 GPU making it perfect for gaming.

Edit: Appears to be a bug reverting the Widevine L1 to L3, see here.

Other features include 4 speakers with Dolby Atmos, 8720mAh battery with 22.5W USB-C PD charging, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, Wifi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0.

Is there any good stylus/pens that work with this?

    • +3

There is a Xiaomi pen specifically for this tablet. It isn't cheap though (~A$120).

      • +1

Yep :( ended up finding that, so I went for a lenovo instead

        • Which Lenovo?

          • @DannersAU: I went for the Lenovo P11 Plus and got the pen with it (not as good of a tablet, but I just needed something that I could write with).

      • Does this tablet the palm rejection technology?

  • -5

I still feel that lenovo p11 pro aud 410ish is better value (snapdragon 730g)

    • +9

I disagree. Xiaomi Pad 5 has better display, better CPU, bettery GPU, better battery, faster storage, more updates and more likely custom ROM support. Downside is that there's a Widevine L1 bug causing it to revert to L3 currently.

      • -1

well yeah but $100+ more so…. okay maybe depending on the usage but that lenovo already good enough (i wont recomend something that is $250 or less)

        • Perhaps the Pro 2021 instead?

          • -3

@Clear: nah too expensive. $350-360 range is perfect for me

          • @Clear: any chance to arrange a sale for that pro 2021 version at an even better price?

      • I am sold. :)

    • +2

For watching media yes. For reading or gaming, not so much. The 120Hz and Snapdragon 860 does make a pretty big difference if you're into gaming on a tablet, and this not having a Pentile Display makes reading pretty comfortable compared to the Oled Pentile display of the Lenovo P11 Pro 2020. But if you're just watching Movies or videos, the battery life of almost 10 hours and pretty decent saturation of the Lenovo is great. The price is also a plus, that's why I bought the Lenovo P11 Pro when it was only $360 compared to when this Xiaomi Pad 5 went on sale. It's preference really.

      • -1

yup agree p11 pro 2020 is good enough. 2021 too expensive.
, i am waiting for seller in ali that will guaranteed SG coinback

Beware: this device "loses" its L1 Widevine support and needs a restart to fix it.

Lots of people reporting it and it seems like a big pain in the ass.

    https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/prime-video-hd.4336369/#p…

    • Yep I've added that to the post ;) Though your link has some fixes with disabling automatic brightness being maybe just enough, or the more time consuming steps at the bottom.

      • Its a shame really, great tablet other then that.

Its enough I wont buy it as I really have 0 faith that it will get fixed.

        • I bought the Blackview Tab 11 that has Widevine L1 but since Netflix haven't whitelisted UNISOC it will only play as SD. Not an issue for me since I don't watch Netflix and knew it was going to be the case before purchasing.

Lenovo is an option with Widevine L1 though updates are less likely.

  • Socialgood with this?

    • Yep valid for cashback.

    • Have you been able withdraw from social good yet?

      • Hasn't tracked yet. Not sure if thats the norm.

  • +12

All this Widevine DRM crap is really making me think piracy is going to be easier and a better experience again.

    • +1

Yep, especially DRM that requires server contact. Do you really own something once the servers go down?

    • Yep, pendulum has swung right back that way for sure

  • Thanks OP, just ordered one for my dad!

  • Just wanna double check, socialgood cashback will track when paying with PayPal correct?

    • +1

Yeah doesnt matter payment method is

      • Alright thanks.

  • So this is ips but overall better than lenovo p11 pro (2020) which has oled screen?

    • +1

Correct. To put it simply the IPS on the mi pad 5 is very high quality compared to the Lenovo it's oled yes , but a very low quality oled.

      • ok yeah should know there are various quality for everything cant just based on ips vs oled

    • $429.98 US

      • Oops, yes, cheers. Comes up in google shopping with the USD price.

        • Considering the first deal was $585 AU we'll probably see $429.99 AU in the near future.

  • Haven't received the socialgood tracking notification yet, but a later order I received it 2 hours later. It's not yet 'shipped' but the later order is, any idea if that affects tracking time?

    • +1

Exact same here. (Later order tracked quickly) I got nervous and cancelled this order as it had been over 24 hours with no tracking since order submitted.

Anyone have more insight on SG tracking timeframes and what influences them on Aliexpress store?

    • +1

maybe need others to confirm but i dont believe ship or not is affecting tracking
i had 3 small purchases that got tracked, before they ship (3 from same seller and i left message ask them to send together).

  • How is this for reading and media consumption (eg Netflix)?

  • +1

Nice but it's Global Version (global rom) which is un-updatable. My Mi Pad 4 is like this. Very disappointing. I don't know how to flash suitable ROMs (too complicated) so I'll personally avoid. 🤷‍♂️

    • +1

The Xiaomi Pad 5 had an official global release unlike the Mi Pad 4 so it's a proper ROM. The Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro however is China-only currently so any "Global ROMs" are seller modified.

  • -4

Similar price to current ipad 9th gen RRP. No deal.

  • All 3 of my AlEx socialgood orders have not tracked yet, including this one. Made 2 yesterday around 10 and 11, and one this afternoon. No tracking for any. Anyone have this issue?

    • Yeah I don't think mine has tracked either. :(

      • So, I've made some separate purchases using the AliExpress + PayPal combo (same as what I used for this offer), and they have worked.

I suspect this offer didn't work because one of the coupons shows as a payment method on the receipt. Interested to see others' opinions on this.

        • or it could be they had some maintenance/buy during the time ozbmate629 bought.
ok glad paying with paypal is okay, i got worry because when choosing paypal meaning i will go out from SG temporarily (to paypal then to authorise 2FA login, etc).
