Metz OLED TV - Anyone Heard of This Brand? The Good Guys Now Selling

So I noticed this being listed yesterday in both 55 inch and 65 inch.

LG and Sony are the big players in OLED, and I know Hisense dabbled, but anyone heard of Metz? Not significantly cheaper either.

  • German manufacturer

    • Another sell off of a brand then.
Looks like they now have two brand Metz blue and Metz original one which says products made in Germany. Anything else can assume isn't

  • I can't find many reviews - if any for these models - so do we have any idea how they stack up against Sony and LG?

  • Metz used to be an high end german manufacturer similat to Loewe

  • Metz still is a high end German Manufacturer with it's camera flash business

    • The camera flash equipment is now from a different company

The company filed for insolvency in 2014 and backed up by new investors now reformed as two independent companies Metz Consumer Electronics GmbH and Metz mecatech GmbH since 2015.

Linus Tech Tips did a review on a skyworth TV a while ago maybe have a look at that since they own Metz now. Given the price of the OLED model tho I don't know why you would get that when the LG OLED 65 C1 has been under 3k multiple times last year.

They may have gone the way of eg Blaupunkt. German high end gone the way of cheap and poorly performing electronics.
Metz website claims "Made in Germany" but does imply they are not, it is only a "standard".

I do think German design and engineering matters, bit if neither is the case, then…
No doubt China is capable of good engineering, eg Xiaomi and manufacturing of virtually all smart phones. So remains to be seen.

Ozbargain's favorite tried and tested LG 65C1 has been as cheap as $2600-2888 don't know why anyone would get something like this.. hell could probably even get the sony around the $3k which is the best on the market..

  • (profanity) Commies.

  • As someone who is looking for a bargain OLED TV, maybe I can just wait for these things to be ignored on the shelves like the Hisense OLEDs, then wait for an absolute steal when they drop the price.

    • It's happening. 65 inch at $1499 and 55 inch for $999 at GG.

Confirmed 120 VRR, went into Good Guys and TV looks good. Compared it to another VRR 120hz full array/local dimming TV and it was the clear winner. LG OLED better again. Currently $2699 65" I'm sure they will get cheaper to be a budget OLED option.

    • I wonder if they will end up like the Hisense OLEDs where they dropped the price just to shift them. I may be wrong, but given the brand isn't well known (thats an assumption I'm making), and the type of people who buy OLED's, I wonder if they will always come second pegging to Sony and LG.

  • Also - not sure if this is a legit site seeing as there are no tech specs anywhere - but the website is half baked and all the links redirect you to the same page you're already on. https://metzblue.com.au

Found this small article on them the other day https://www.channelnews.com.au/exclusivethe-good-guys-expand…

    • It's a shame that they talk about having to re-educate customers about the brand, but then barely put any info on the GG website about the TV's specs. Also a shame the TV is running Android TV rather than Google TV.

  • $2399 for the 65" with $240 real cash making it just $2159
https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/metz-65-inches-4k-oled-androi… or the 55" model is $1599 with $160 real cash back making it just $1439

    • Goodguys jack up the prices to 55inch $1999 and 65inch $2999

65” is now $1499. Too Cheap to ignore.

  • I bought one in August for around $2400, Google did not show anything else under $3500 at the time, so I decided to go for it, figuring it will be some LG panel anyway, possibly last year's. Still happy with the purchase, I think this is a total steal at $1500. I just set it to movie mode, and am happy with the picture. Blacks are black, which is a nice change from my 4 year old entry level Sony LCD. Sometimes I think it loses some dark detail right down the bottom, say <5% blacks, and there are some banding type effects, but I am not sure if this is due to poor source or the set, so I just enjoy the 99.5% of the time when this is not an issue. Sounds is quite good. I get the feeling that the Kogan 65 inch OLED is the same Skyworth model, at least same exterior design, and the user manual / remote are the same. Cant vouch for the electronics. Except Kogan only has 1 year warranty vs Metz's 3.
