  • Great apps, plays MKV smoothly and also supports subtitle change.

    • yeah it plays 720p and 480p good

      but 1080p is struggle…

only apple's own player can play 1080p good cos they get full access to the hardware decoding or something..

at least we saved some money for a player to play mkv etc..

better than wasting time converting to mp4 etc..

      • What devices have you used it on out of interest? would like to know if the 'new iPad' can cope with 1080p. It looks like even apple use a very specific compression to both a) get the optimised performance from the hardware accelerated chip and b) minimise bandwidth needed to stream / download the files. Those MKV ahem from the net might not benefit from this.

No the new iPad suffers from the same issues

  • Pleasantly surprised by this app and the extensive levels of access and connectivity it supports. I had been treasuring that I had got the VLC player App before it was removed - however I hated having to 'plan ahead' and copy media from my NAS onto it to play… now with this I can stream via DLNA, and even potentially access the server remotely via FTP when I am away if needed - nice.

If you knew 6 times in the past 6 months, you could have atleast let us know! he did!

      • There is an app for literally everything, tracking app historic data, status, and there are tonnes of free apps which passively feed at least ~100 apps on special or free daily for you. I am no genius but if you guys gonna neg ppl who simply states facts in ozbargain…

      • and FYI, I posted the special on infinity blade 2 not long ago which has never went on sales before

  • How do we setup samba on windows 7 to see it in aceplayer?
    or dlna on windows 7?

  • My pad is crappy. It's just the free ad version. Don't waste your time on it. But props to this media player

  • Oh a bit off track but why was vlc player removed? I also downloaded it before it got canned

I can only see one folder when i try to view a samba share. Anyone else have this problem? Share is on NAS

    • how do u setup samba share on win 7?

I try sharing the folder in windows 7, but it not show up on ace player samba…

      • Dont u just enable windows file sharing, share a folder and put in ip address of your pc in the app?

        • i try but it does not show up in aceplayer

          i put my pc ip
also enable sharing on a folder

          but no folder shows up

    • I have to same problem - I can only see 3 shared folders on my NAS out of 8. Weird.

  • Is this any better than AVPlayerHD?

    • Basically similar. I've downloaded both months ago. Aceplayer offers more options for media transfer, but for watching movie experience avplayerhd offers multi touch gesture. Personally, i prefer AVPlayerHD. But the choice is yours. Both are good.

      • what about playback performance? in both players
        which is better?

        for 720p or 1080p…
does av player have any sync stutter issues?

        • I've had a couple of short (1 sec) shutter issues at the beginning of some 720p vids, but not enough to cause any issues.

  • Does this work fine for iPod Touch? Does 720p MKV work well on it?

    • yes.

      Try it and see yourself

  • Anyone know what this can do on a 3GS?

    • let you know that it's time to upgrade.

  • Someone please help me with samba setup on windows 7?

i can't get my windows 7 share to show up on the aceplayer

  • Anyone know of a good app like this for an Andriod phone?

    • I have found MoboPlayer and seems to have great reviews. Anyone else think otherwise or know of something better?

  • Is it just me or are all videos slightly stretched vertically on this when watching via Samba share? DLNA they are fine and not stretched. Cant see anything on Google about it, but is enough of a stretch to be unwatchable really, otherwise pretty good app, just missing the option to airplay to an apple tv.

    • can u please help me with setting up samba share?

I add my ip to aceplayer but no folder show up.
And I already shared the folder in windows 7

      • Sorry for the late reply, forgot to check back. Not sure for windows, as I am connecting to a NAS box (netgear readynas duo) on the network. I did notice that i can only connect to the root media folder only. Ie- it has a root folder called "media", then sub-folders "videos", "music", "bittorrent". If i tried to map to anything else i either got an error when the syntax was wrong, or it just sat there when it was a folder other than "media". So i could only map to "readynas/media" even though i only want the videos folder. Note that u cant put leading "//" either. If connecting to a windows share on your pc i would assume u put the pc name then the share name, so in aceplayer you would put "dellxps/myshare" for example.

Got this back in the day when it was always free. Easy to use, less stutter compared to VLC. Has played all the file types that I've ever used and has multiple audio language and subtitle options. Highly recommended.

  • I'm having trouble moving my divx .avi to iTunes.

I try to drag and drop and add file but iTunes just doesn't add it, any thoughts?

    • +1

Never mind, just found out you add files via Aceplayer Fileshare.

  • When you open the app the first line says:"MediaShare is free in the mac app store for several days" - unfortunately it actually costs $2.99. I don't know where Mediashare fits in the processes however.

  • okay i manage to get the samba to see all the directory now..

but i tried to stream and it does not stream anything
    just shows the busy icon…

  • Can we copy mkv files to ipad then play later e.g when on the train or airplane …
or we have to sync video in itunes?

    • Yes, you drag and drop into the iPad.

  • Would love a guide on how to get Samba working please.

    • See my oz bargain post at the top

  • Sadly it's back to $2.99 now.

  • Not free anymore. Damnit.
