  • It's bad.

    Chicken feed

Doesn't compare, restricted for mining too.

    • I wouldn't mind some good chicken feed

    • bad for mining is the whole reason of existence of this card m8. So you don't buy it

      • +1

Some gamers like to mine on the side to pay off their expensive video card, effectively giving you a free video card making this card more expensive in the long run.

        • By that logic everyone should just buy a 3090 because it will eventually pay for itself?

          • @deeby: Theoretically yes however the ROI will take longer.

  • +4

This in 2022 is bad. Get some discount tcn, go buy xbox s.

  • +15

This is the GPU I would avoid buying in all cases.

  • +10

Very bad GPU, better off with a RX570 4gb.
I actually can't believe how bad this GPU is

      • +6

Have a look at the reviews, it's worse than the 5500xt.
Its basically over priced e-waste aimed at people that don't know any better.

        • +3

If you have PCIE Gen 3 CPU or Mobo it loses to GTX 1050 Ti in some gaming benchmarks. This card is so bad it makes me angry

        1. Newer doesn't mean faster. It's actually slower than an RX570.
        2. PCIe speeds are only relevant if they're going to be a bottleneck; on this slow of a card they're not.
        3. Even if they were relevant, it's limited to 4 lanes, which means yes, there's less bandwidth on gen 3 compared to most cards (e.g. RX570).
        4. Regardless of the above, this card struggles even with low end titles.

It's a bad card; nobody should be recommending it at this price.

        • +1

Because this card only has 4x pcie lanes, gen3 pcie does bottleneck it, quite massively. Especially having only 4gb of vram.

This card is essentially a no-buy on gen3. And a very, very dubious buy on gen4.

        • -1

"Slower than rx570 on some titles" , mainly older games where they have no optimisation for newer hardware. AC Vahalla the 6500xt is much better. These claims should be taken on what benchmark they are in. Anyone claiming is slower than 1050ti is also incorrect. In terms of the 1650, it trades blow.

People need to consider usage than just Cherry picking data. I'm definitely not vouching for the card, but let's be honest, you'll be gambling a second hand card at this price point with limited life left in it versus brand new card with warranty. Once in a while, amd/nvidia needs to release low-mid end gpus.

          • @kid-vhee: I would argue that this card has limited life left in it due to it being average at 1080p and slower than previous generations. Its a laptop GPU pulled out and repurposed for desktops. Its embarrasing. Value (low-mid end) cards still should improve comparitive to previous value cards, not stagnate or regress in performance. The higher end products had a massive jump in perfomance, theres no reason the value cards should have a similar jump (comparitive to their previous versions). They wouldnt be taking sales away from the top end, but they would also provide an upgrade path to those stuck on 5 year old value cards. The lack of progress in this sector of the market is the most disappointing. They are produce a steaming pile because they know it will sell, like Intel used to do with CPUs. Not going to be difficult to beat a 6500XT next release by a miniscule amount, and continue to add inflation (which in tech is a questionable concept to begin with).

Unfortunately supply issues arent being helped in any meaningful way by the two main companies (they could if they wanted to). This card is milking people because they know they can. Instead of looking after their consistent long-term customers, they are allowing their GPUs to be sold (in large quantities) because the quickest way to make a dollar is to sell to large mining farms while sacrificing those that will continue to be customers long term. Most of the cards aren't ever entering retail channels.

Like toilet paper in this pandemic, people will unfortunately have FOMO and buy things they dont need to. Would be great if people boycotted blatant moves (like this) to give the middle finger to AMD who know that some shmuck will buy it, allowing them to validate dick moves like this to their shareholders.

          • +1

@kid-vhee: The problem is the price, in December 2019 you could easily get a RX570 8GB for $169.00
Price this card at $169.00 and the complaints mainly go away (still a shiz card)

All AMD is is doing is ripping gamers because they can.

            • @Jessie Ryder: Unfortunately we don’t live in the good times anymore. A used RX 570 generally goes for $300 and you’d have to deal with a potentially moronic second hand seller.

    • +3

It's better than the RX 580 in most tests, some games it falls behind it. and rx 570's are 300-400 second hand, and rx 580's 400-500 second hand. Considering this a brand new with warranty 6500xt for $320 is not bad at all. Yes compared to 2 years ago when new rx 580's were under $200, it's not that good a deal, but in this crazy environment, it's not a bad deal.

Not to mention some people don't want to or need to buy $700 cards. If you have no card or a really outdated one, and just want to do some light 1080 gaming, if not for this card, your other options are what? $900 for a 3060, $700 for a 6600, the aforementioned second hand cards, $340 for a 1050ti (which is 40%-80% the performance) or like $150 for a gt1030. So not great choices there.

    • Ironically you don’t find it disgusting that someone who paid ~$150 for an RX 570 two-three years ago is now selling it on the used market for twice as much? Is that any better than a scalper or corporation capitalising on an opportunity?

Not that I’m condoning this behaviour but the individual is just as much an opportunist as the corporation.

  • +9

Not OPs fault, but GPU manufacturers are taking the piss out of us. This is a poor performing GPU, consider integrated graphics or just wait, like this is pretty crap, spend a little more get a lot more.

Would need to be desperate as quite a lot of GPU competition is coming this year.

    • +3

Well OP is definitely contributing to the problem. He has posted 3 terrible GPU deals in the last 3 days since creating an account. It's like he wants people to get ripped off.

    • +2

spend a little more and get what?

      • 3080 12gb.

  • +6

Just watched Steve from Hardware Unboxed's seething review:

    https://youtu.be/M5_oM3Ow_CI

    • +2

lol same just watched the review and mannn is this a potato of a gpu.

  • Poop

  • -1

Slightly better than Nvidia 1650 Super but 4GB VRAM you are limited to 1080P resolution.

Additionally COD Warzone needs more than 4GB RAM at max 1080p settings + other new games will increase VRAM Requirements as we move using the Unreal Engine 5 engine.

    • +1

The 1650 was about $219 when it came out almost FOUR years ago (definitely more than three years)

What we need is an integrated APU that doesn’t suck, given the steam deck I know AMD is capable of producing it, but that would kill their sales of discrete GPU

    • +3

      It's like a car with 2 gears.
On PCIe 4.0, it's as fast as a RX 5500XT or RX 580X, but without hardware h264 and h265 video encode or AV1 decode.
On PCIe 3.0, it's as slow as a RX 470, GTX 1650 or GTX 780, but without hardware h264 and h265 video encode or AV1 decode.

Never seen such a situational card like this. Most budget builds will be using PCIe 3.0, so you're better off putting in a used GTX 1060, 1660 or 1070.

  • +2

Only 4x pcie not 16 on my Motherboard. I cancelled the preorder as soon as I saw the reviews. Some of the benchmarks were just terrible compared to much older cards. I'll wait.

    • +3

Exactly, The card is limited to PCIe 4.0 x 4 bandwidth. If your motherboard has only PCIe 3.0 the impact is quite large as the card is only 4GB. Hardware Unboxed has posted a review and the results are abysmal. The 12 game average was slower using PCIe 3.0 motherboard than a RX570 4gb….ouch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5_oM3Ow_CI

      • I'm tripping out on my RX 6600XT. GPU-Z says card supports PCIe x 8 4.0 but reports that the card is runniung x 8 3.0.
        For context, I'm running 3600 + B550.
        How can I fix this?

        • 3600 doesn't support pcie4 I don't think. Buy a Ryzen 5000 series to fix.

(I don't actually recommend upgrading, the rx6600 won't see any significant benefit from pcie4)

          • +1

@Alzori: The 3600 does support PCIe 4.0. Most 3000 series processors do even the 3100 and 3300x, but only in a B550 or X570 MB.

            • +4

@Svenlem: Check your bios, should be as easy as a single setting change. Also make sure your card is in the top slot (closest to the CPU).

If that doesn't work take the card out and reseat it in the slot, this happened to my 1070 a few years back where it was on 8x instead of 16x.

              EDIT: was meant for @Alzori

              • @AEKaBeer: Huh, my bad. Guess that means I could do with a faster SSD in my rig then!

  • Can I run dota at max settings?

    • Whilst dota is predominantly a cpu heavy game, there has been a big shift to skin and ability cosmetic changes, especially with immortals in recent years.

I would envisage that big fights would require larger RAM on the GPU when maxxing out the settings for smoother gameplay but this is simply my opinion.

    • +1

You can run it at 4k max no prob

      • if you want 60fps only… dota2 is a competitive game and players are usually aiming for 150-200 range

        • +1

          why tho

I mean I guess I get it, more frames = better, but I don't see how it would help you in competitive dota

          • @Zorlin: Its a game with an insane amount of variables centred around timing. The difference ina few milliseconds is the difference between winning a match and being flamed by your team because that mistake is cascading into a loss.

Whilst its not a requirement per se, but for quality of life, most players create a buffer for the critical moments such as big team fights where there is the most particles etc being generated.

Edit: The first paragraph is the reason I never recommend the game to people, whilst its a gorgeous and technical game, it can also be punishingly toxic.

  • +2

Wow man, the current state of the GPU market will go down in history, what a time.

  • +2

Surely this would have been a good deal & great budget option at $199-219 in the current market.

  • +2

Asus up to their usual hyper-inflate pricing tricks.

    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/56954/asus-radeon-rx-650…

    • Wow that is sad, only one HDMI & one DP too.

Two years ago I got an ASUS 5700XT for that same price and I thought GPU prices were bad in 2020

  • +4

Boycot NVIDIA & AMD until prices come down to pre-covid.
    That will teach them mungrels.

    • +2

It’s not just AMD / Nvidia.

Check Asus pricing across the board and you’ll see they have clearly made decision to screw their buyers over.

Gigabyte and others have also followed their example, though to a lower degree.

    • +1

So… By doing that… No new PC parts? Market is the market.

    • +2

hahahahahahhahah… its as useful as the bOYcoT bP sErvOs uNTil tEhY dROp TeH prICe

    • All semiconductor companies (cpu+gpu) are apparently putting up prices by about 20% over next month/year. Prices I think aren't going to get better for a while =/

I need a GPU and am now less confident about waiting lol

      https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amdinteland-nvidias-cpu-an…

Edit I'm still not buying this steaming pile of wasted silicon.

      • They should just jack up their MSRP to make market price look like a 'discount'.

  • +5

We should boycott these GPU manufacturers for releasing bad card and trying to milk gamers for every penny. They tend to forget that gamers are the one these company existed in the first place.

    • +1

They do have good cards, at a higher cost. 6500 is selling for similar money than gtx1060, or cheaper depending the secondhand copy… Seems fair?

most well abused 1060 3GB single fan fetches for cir $300.

  • +1

Only 2 inputs? Even RX 570 had 4.

    • In or out?

      • Sorry I meant outputs. Looking for a card that can drive at least 3 monitors.

    • +1

This is a laptop GPU shoehorned into a desktop card. So it's like taking a motorcycle, tacking on 2 additional wheels and expecting it to carry a family of 5 plus luggage and keep the rain and wind out.

  • This thing is a polished turd. My 5 year old RX480 that I sold for around this price would have been a better buy.

  • -3

if you making a stand alone streaming PC that only records and streams in OBS to twitch, then this card its perfect.

If your wanting to game and stream at the same time on the same computer however this won't be good enough.

I will keep this in mind I am building a new streaming stand along PC so I can upgrade my current dual PC setup :D

    • +3

The card doesn't have encoding suppport

  • Why is an inflated MSRP for a piece of turd considered OK? Terrible value product.

  • +3

This card is bad and AMD should feel bad for taking this past the concept phase.

  • +2

Instead of buying this, I recommend buying a used card from 2016. At least you still have hardware video encode for h264

  • -1

Bet at this price, it will sold out pretty quick still! Lots of stupid noobs have no idea and will just buy it!

  • +1

    https://preview.redd.it/j6ubvrbtinc81.png?width=1890&format=…

Worse than a 1650S and probably a RX 580 from years ago

    • +1

It is closer to an RX 470 when run on PCIe 3.0, but without hardware video encode for h264 and h265.

  • +1

    can this run cyberpunk well?

  • +1

    Rubbish GPU. enough said.

  • Terrible GPU - stay away.

  • +1
    • +1

that is probably one of the more accurate reviews of this card. It is awful in basically every way with its only redeeming factor being it is decent for power consumption.

      • they couldve made a 75w version of this
so people with oem pcs or low power psus can run it

  • +1

even at the introductory MSRP price of $319 this is really really bad…

the Gigabyte Gaming Overclock Version at $459 is highway robbery…

  • These are really bad. It can't even run minecraft with shaders that well.

  • Thanks bit my kids will stick with their GTX 960s

  • +2

Probably better deal to just buy a random gpu like 106/70 or rx 580 off fb marketplace or gumtree.

  • Terrible card, I can't believe this is getting released in 2022. I would avoid as others are saying. Watch some videos on this card or just read the other comments and you'll know to avoid.

  • Yeah I'm not gonna neg but for a 2022 card this is trash

  • +3

this is a better deal at $319 than a 3-5 year old second hand card off ebay that has probably been mined to death and driver support will probably drop in a couple years time,

This has warranty, and driver support, and will probably gain better performance from optimisations in the future (more so than older cards)

This Sapphire pulse card from Scorptec @ $319 is better than the OP's card.

    https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/graphics-cards/amd/94846…

    • It may be better than buying old cards. But this isn't future proof for new games as it can barely run the most recent games release 2 years ago at medium settings. New releases will only be more demanding on machines unless cloud gaming.

      • +2

yes but so is a RX570 4gb, GTX1050ti etc. if I only had about 300-350 bucks for a GPU and only playing at 1080p, esport titles then this is a better option imo,

wait to see how the RTX3050 is when released, but I bet it wont be sitting at $319 bucks for long, or at all,

        • obviously, it has 12 gigs of vRam, way more desirable

  • +1

Rubbish for mining. I'll leave this for the gamers.

    • +1

      Rubbish for gamers as well.
