        • I think there is some sort of distance check - try locking in within 100km of where you'll fill up.

          • @skid: Damn - hope youre wrong, wont be filling up at 7/11 again if thats the case haha
will be doing a little 7 litre fill up to test

            • @rockstar1237: Looking forward to your results.

              • +1

                @sween64: Captains log

Filled 10L and got discount - Lock was in NSW (am in ACT) - Much further than 100km

Going to test with WA prob tomorrow - learnings so far….

                New FRESH device ID
                New FRESH account

It would seem Leeroy below is right - they are flagging the account and not "banning" it, so you can still do a lock, but when the barcode is scanned, triggers it to a) not give u the discount and b) ban the account within 24 hours thereafter

                • @rockstar1237: And c) ban that device?

                  • +1

@sween64: yepp and any accounts that have logged in on that device

                • @rockstar1237: Pretty sneaky of them as you would then be forced to pay the pump price rather than the locked price. Sounds like 7/11 have upped their game.

                  • @fedex11: i think for the timebeing, locking cheapest in your own state and wait for 2-3 days before redeeming would be the safest? surely if it gets banned, we can contact them and explain we were going on a roadtrip?

  • I tried using my lock yesterday from WA located in Vic and did not get the discount and account banned. I waited 6 days after locking in.

    • Time to get on disposable email/accounts.

  • +3

I had an account not used for 6 months as I couldn't fly for some time. Locked in naturally & locally on real app, real phone, but with old account, and filled up 6 days later. No discount applied.

So in summary, it's not because of your most recent lock, these accounts have been pre identified and will be locked on next use

  • I always lurk here but figured id sign up to be able to talk about it.

I started getting error a01 recently for interstate so gave up and now just lock in the cheapest in NSW.

Lately I'm getting error a01 even doing that. I have tried other accounts and that didn't help.
I set my real location and it locked it in fine.
I don't get it because I could very easily travel the 2 hours to lock it in. How are they figuring this out ?

    I use iPhone, 3dutools

    • +1

I get that as well but I've found that if you keep spamming the lock it eventually works.

So everytime you get the A01 error, just try relocking. I'll get it eventually after 10ish tries

      • I just tried and couldn't get it to lock I tried heaps.

I even reset my phone to factory settings.
Its almost not even worth using if I cant do in NSW.

    • Try moving the location pin to somewhere near the cheapest suburb before locking in.

      • and where possible, lock in when you know you're unlikely to use it, let it expire. Make your account look normal and not always saving 25c/L twice a week.
and visit servos as far apart on your normal routine, to create variance, not regular patterns.

  • +1

tried some accounts and all of them had no discount applied and were banned!
    tried within 24 hours
    after 24 hours
    after 2 days
will try with a new device and see how it goes.

  • So far we have identified that New Device + New Account definitely works but your new account cannot log onto any previously banned device otherwise it would be immediately flagged for a ban the next time you use it. So this tells us they've done a hardware ban.

The next test is to figure out what would and wouldn't trigger the ban. I guess this would include (but not limited to):
    1) Locking interstate and STAYING LOCKED interstate for [x] period of time before reverting back
    2) Locking interstate and REVERTING back within [x] period of time

    • Further to testing

Second lock of diesel on a second account - was locked but redeemed with no discount and account banned.

Tried to lock on first account that i did 91 on, E01 constant error even with a local lock (indication of device ban)

      Learnings from yesterday / today.

Even if you manage to get a lock redeemed it is possible that it will trigger device ID ban

So far havnt been able to get a lock and NOT have the account / device flagged and banned for subsequent locks, therefore needing a device reset after each lock

Doing another 91 on a fresh everything again either today or tomorrow to see if i cant get any more findings (want to test redeem / re locking after about 3 or 4 hours and seeing if the device is flagged)

  • Has anyone tried using bluestacks android emulator to get around hardware ban? You could screen shot the barcode and send it to your phone. Might try later today after locking for 24 hours

    • pretty sure bluestack cannot pass safetynet

  • Just having a look at this thread, but it's amazing that 7-eleven have moved to actually hard-banning devices, I thought everyone stopped doing this once the discount only become 25c off.

They still have a quality slurpee though

    • Imagine how many things you'd loose access to if you bought a 2nd hand phone from an ozbargainer, no Guzman y Gomez, No 711 fuel locks/Bday freebies and many other things, lol.

Ey, anyone wanna buy a cheap second hand phone?

      • +4

Factory reset also resets device ID.

        • -1

          @CodeXD, works on iphone?

    • Does changing the device ID on a rooted device get around that?

      • +2

Yes, I use "Device ID Changer" by SilverLab.

        • Cheers, been doing the same thing but wasn't sure if it still worked

  • Just added $5 worth of fuel, Sydney lock and Newcastle use after about 2h. No issues but could possibly be that it is possible to drive from Syd to Newcastle during that time and it's low amount of fuel anyways?

    • +2

interestingly - low amount of fuel worked for me the other day

New fresh everything did 60L of 91 after waiting 36hours and no bueno

For me this is the final nail in the coffin, the chopper has been put into indefinite storage - costco will get my moneys now :)

      • +2

Might try a bigger amount next time and see if that is the case, usually I need tops 50L so hopefully I don't have to boycott too

  • +1

We wish to inform you that the My 7-Eleven app will be offline for upgrade and maintenance from 9:30pm on 17 July to 9:30am on 18 July AEST.

Wonder how this "upgrade" will affect our helicopters. Stay safe out there.

    • +3

Hopefully it'll fix the recent issues we've been having 😂

      • hmmm… or not
        I guess time will tell!

  • +9

I don't understand the ban logic.

In the last few years I was exclusively a 7/11 customer due to the chopper. I would have spent thousands on fuel, and usually always got a drink when I filled up.

Now I don't go there at all. With a 30 second check on petrol spy I can always find something on my daily route within a few cents of the 7/11 lowest. 9 times out of 10 it's my local United servo.

I know 7/11 won't grieve the loss of one customer but surely I'm not alone in this. If I was 7/11 I'd rather have guaranteed business than shut out a minority group involved in price locking.

    • +1

I don’t think they want customers that lose them money.

    • +5

They would have wanted your money at any price to pump their financials to sell off the brand to the Japanese company at the highest price. Now that the Japanese company controls the business they no longer need revenue at all costs.

It's got nothing to do with you as a customer, your usefullness simply no longer aligns to their goals.

  • +3

If 7/11 bans ozbargainers then ozbargainers should ban 7/11 en masse.
    People power.

    • -4

      That would increase their profits.

      • Not really. They are still making money above cost price

        • -3

Not when you include their business running costs.

          • @jv: 711s receive x cents per litre refilled. Fuel revenue dies not go to the individual 711

  • either my account or my old iPhone X might have been blacklisted. I could not lock even at my local 7 eleven

  • I can't lock either. I have two accounts get an Error E36 on one account and Error A01 on another account.

Have tried resetting device id. But it still doesn't work.

    What do those errors mean?

    • -3

this forum is for 7-Eleven Fuel App, not iPhone technical support.

        • -1

Yes get an Android phone that allows you to do this.

    • +3

Not without a jailbreak no. You need to backup the phone, factory reset and then restore the backup.

        • Lol what's your problem? Annoyed that we won't hold your hand?

  • is fuel lock working with this massive outage?

    • +1

the 711 in Warana Qld , was closed for fuel around 10.45 am , all the pumps were taped off .

      • Windaroo qld also not providing fuel

    • I was only buying coffee this morning and they said the scanners weren’t working to read the barcode, but they still gave the coffee discount without scanning. Pumps all had the Sorry sign on them like mentioned earlier.

  • +1

anyone recognise that whenever the fuel price starts increasing, 7Eleven starts banning chopper accounts. Some of my accounts were banned at those times, scanning the bar code but no discount. After signing out then signing in that account, it will be banned (G09 error).

  • My account is fine for now but is there a way to pre-test if you have been identified for a ban before locking and fuelling up?

One account, one device, interstates locks but redeeming a few days later

    • Nope but if you're worried above your account being banned, I would suggest not using the Chopper and just filling up normally.

From the side of things, accounts that have previously used the chopper have been flagged in their system so the next time they do it, it's instaban

  • +48

Just letting you guys know that I'm no longer supporting the Android Studio guide here. The recent changes (25c limit, geo-locking, account bans, etc) don't really make the effort worth it anymore. I'm going back to filling up at the nearest Metro at the low end of the fuel cycle. If things change, I might revisit, but for now I'm out.

    • -2

Yep, I've found Coles Express to be way cheaper the last few months after taking into account the 8c discounts.

    • +4

Thanks for your help over the years 🫲

      • No worries. If anyone wants to take over the guide, feel free to do so!

    • Understand. I had to resort to fuelling up for the first ever at Ampol yesterday as the 7/11 went up by 49 cents from my lock that I was about to use.

    • +1

Some brand i've never heard of before "OOM Energy" took over the closest service station to my girlfriends house and they seem to have the best pricing in both our areas consistently so that's interesting. Don't think there's any discounts you can get for it though and it still doesn't beat the chopper :( it's my fault guys the day before 711 started cracking down I sent a msg to one of my group chats after using a lock saying that I can't believe normies pay so much for fuel, now I'm one of the masses!

  • Hey! Any ideas if GeoPort 2.3.3 works on Iphone SE with 17.5.1 (it's not picking up mine). Thanks!

    • Was GeoPort working for you prior to 17.5.1?

      • No, it's a new phone I am trying to connect. I think it's dev mode not enabled. It's not showing up. Installing Xcode to see if I can get it to show up :)

        • Thanks - would you please let us know if you're able to get GeoPort working after enabling dev mode?

          • @skid: Will do! :) Thanks!

          • +1

@skid: it did work :) Connected and locked. Cheers!

            • @OzNano: Great , did you lock interstate ?

            • +1

@OzNano: Interested to find out if your lock works or if it just bans your account when they scan it at the store.

              • +2

@Agret: I try to do lock it a day in advance because of that. I will fill up tomorrow and report back here.

  • +23

Implementing a 25-cent cap is a poor decision for 7-Eleven. After checking 7-Eleven prices around Brisbane, it's clear that price locks are now ineffective. I can simply drive to Liberty or Metro for cheaper fuel. Upvote me if you have already quit this game :P

    • +2

I guess the hack became so widespread that they started to lose a lot of money especially when there is a price error somewhere. You can’t really blame them. It a business after all.
Also, for diesel where I live (north brisbane) and after 25 cents discount, it usually becomes the cheapest besides Costco sometimes (which has long queues most of the time).
Remember if you drive 10 minutes out of your way to save a dollar or two, you’re actually not saving a dollar or two.

  • +2

I cannot apply the discount in VIC and I had to pay full price. I think it's time to get rid of lock price and 7-11

    • @Michel984 Interstate?

      • Yeah, Interstate lock and now I cannot lock price even within VIC

        • +5

Locked in interstate last week and filled up today, discount didnt work

          • @Jayd3n: No error msg on the account?

Everything looked right til they scanned the code?

            • @Mike444: Yes, no error. Account is banned now.

Created a new account, price locked within Vic with no chopper, the other day and went good, discount was applied.

Tried to price lock again earlier today with chopper and same state (vic) and it doest lock the price anymore.

              • @Jayd3n: What error message did you get with locking with a shopper in the same state? Even if it does lock, there’s a risk the discount doesn’t apply on checkout and we’re stung with paying the full pump price..

                • +4

@fedex11: It's BS that they don't just ban outright and play the game where you can login and lock but not able to use the account

  • Anyone read the latest T&Cs?

    • -3

No, anything 'interesting' we should know about?

    • Probably related to “Introducing the new Pay & Go, our fastest shopping experience yet.”

  • Is the discount working for anyone?

      • Any tips? What’s your process?

Has anyone tried their new additive package, does it taste better?

    • +1

It's only a matter of time before people will demand Mobil 'classic'..

  • Price locked to interstate and went to fill up in Vic this evening, only to find out at the checkout that the price lock was not working. Opened the app to find out that my account has been banned. Thanks 7-11…

    • -2

Mine worked fine. But then again, I'm not notJV…

        • -1

It's cheaper at Shell Express regardless…
