  • NVMe SSD means faster than Samsung T7 SSD?

    • the speed is similar

      https://au.pcmag.com/ssd-1/68261/seagate-firecuda-gaming-ssd

But this is now cheaper than T7 while it's also a bit heavier.

No. This is USB 3.2 gen 2x2, not 3.2 gen 2.

If you have a PC / laptop which supports USB 3.2 gen 2x2, then you can benefit from the faster sequential read/write. If you DON'T have it, then you can only use it like USB 3.2 gen 2 SSD.

Bear in mind that, Thunderbolt 3/4, USB 4 do NOT need to be compatible with USB 3.2 gen 2x2. So, currently, none of them provide support. You really need USB 3.2 gen 2x2 port. Yes, USB 4 does NOT need to support USB 3.2 gen 2x2.

        • Wow… whoever does the naming for USB protocols I am guessing is against the idea of being intuitive.

Thanks for the info on all this.

    • +2

I am not an expert, but on paper it should have 2000MB/s versus T7's 1050MB/s

      • +2

Yes, but you must have a PC/laptop that supports USB 3.2 gen 2x2.

For now, there is no point getting it for a Mac, since Mac uses Thunderbolt 3/4 and support for USB 3.2 gen 2x2 is NOT required nor implemented.

  • OOS. 😭

It was at 50 sold when I sent it. It went quick.

I saw that available yesterday whole day. Sold out 15 mins after post here. Ozbargainers !!!

  • eeeep. Still expensive. Why are Samsung portable SSDs so much more cheaper than Seagate?

Hopefully we'll start seeing SSDs to get cheaper from now

    • Basically this drive is 2x faster than the Samsung T7 SSD

  • Came back in stock. Got one. Thanks OP

Gone again, just missed out. :-(

Same… Failed to finish my payment before gone twice today

  • If this doesn't get restocked. My recommendation if you need a fast portable USB C hard drive is to wait till there is a sale on the Asus Rox Strix Arion.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/asus-rog-strix-arion

It's a USB enclosure that is compatible with NVME SSD's. You can find 1GB equivalent SSD's for just a little bit more when you factor in the cost of the enclosure and the SSD.

I got one myself and paired it with a Samsung 1TB 970 Evo pro which cost me $125 on an eBay sale

    • But that enclosure is not USB 3.2 Gen 2 x 2 like this one which supports upto 20Gbps speeds. This enclosure alone would be worth more than $79

      • 100% agreed. This was a true bargain.
Though I doubt many average users would have compatible USB 3.2 2x2 ports on their PC's/laptops

I just checked my relatively modern motherboard (Gigabyte X570 Pro WIFI) and it doesn't have it. I believe it's more found on very high end laptops/motherboards

      • 2x2 is a dead end technology, virtually no motherboards support it.

        • Intel 12th gen is supporting it, a small number of 11th gen and an even smaller number of X570 boards support it. It is likely Zen 4 motherboards will support it as well.

  • Someone bought 10…

    • to resell probably

  • +1

PSA: 99% of you will not be able to make use of the advertised speeds, for all intents and purposes it's a 1000MB/s drive like all the others.

    • Thanks mate 👍

      Tricky and confusing marketing specs

Even the PS5 USB C ports are stuck to 10gbps so it's pretty much on par with the Samsung T7 if you are using it on that console.

  • Update:

Got mine the next day after ordering, Damn quick delivery.
Very well built enclosure, Great at this price but I'd feel ripped off at RRP

  • Seven back in stock, $109 now. ($5 off coupon)
