Lots of recent deals under $135 so this seems a bit high. If you can hold of can probably get it cheaper.

  • Does anyone know if I have a UDM that's wifi 5, will the AP still work with wifi 6?

    • What do you mean by, will the AP work with Wifi 6? If you're adding the ap to your existing network with a UDM, then clients can connect to the U6-LITE as a Wifi 6 client.

When the client roams between the two aps I don't know what would happen tbh. Seems to work fine for most though

    • Each WAP will operate in accordance with the specs of the specific AP. I have two APs, one is Wifi 6 and the other WiFi 5. They run as 6/5 respectively.

  • Just an FYI, if you're having random disconnection problems with the latest firmware 5.60.23, roll back to a previous version. A number of people have reported issues.

After updating, a whole heap of my devices would drop off randomly after a day and would not be able to reconnect until I restart the AP, after which it'll work for a while again.

Ubiquiti software quality has certainly dropped off in the past few years.

    • Does your ssid disappear/broadcasting stop for the clients?

      • +1

Nope, SSID is still broadcast, devices just can't connect to it.

haha reminds me why i never upgrade firmware on ubiquit gear that is working perfectly

      • +3

Hahah yes, at work I gave up on upgrading firmware unless there's a big security risk.

The absolute worst Ubiquiti event that happened at work was when I upgraded the software on the Cloud Key Gen2 Plus through the web interface. The upgrade failed, the cloud key rebooted, and factory-reset itself. It also formatted the partition where the backups were stored, because who needs backups.

So I tried to restore it from my downloaded backups, and it wouldn't recognize the backups.

I had to keep going back and back through my backups and finally came across one from months ago that worked.

I think they lost their way when they started diversifying and making all sorts of other gear like ceiling lights, cameras, and access control. Stretching their team way too thin, quality dropped off a cliff.

    • I ran into that with my IP cams etc, I disabled "Optimize IoT WiFi connectivity" which seemed to help.

      • +2

The irony of disabling options that are supposed to help must be lost on Ubiquiti

        • I feel like they're just taking the piss at this point

Really wanting the U6 Pro to hit, they seem to be rare as Hens Teeth and selling out in the US the day that a new shipment is listed.

It is best to stay away from Unifi gear due to numerous software\firmware bugs. The problem also where Apple devices would not connect. TP Links Omada's business range has been much more reliable.

    • Huh?
I have a household with plenty of both Apple and non-Apple gear - have seen no problems with either connecting to my Unifi network, it's been working a treat since I got it - best investment I've made in a while. Most anyone else I know who has Unifi gear, love it too.

Wait till you upgrade your firmware one day. ;)

        • Firmware's been upgraded running for the last two years, up-to-date currently and so-far-so-good (knock-on-wood).
I know there's been some chatter about some of the firmware updates, but not as a consistent issue for them and even at that - you could just leave the firmware where it works for you - mine aren't auto-updating currently, I run through and do it every so often when I feel like it's time.

            @nebakke:

I run through and do it every so often when I feel like it's time.

That's what I do, and that's when I noticed it started falling over. The problem is every firmware version has issues so if you want for a firmware that has no issues you might be waiting forever. ;)

Anyway unfortunately due to poor software quality control, the general rule with UniFi is, if it works, don't touch it unless there's a security update.

(Let's not get started about the half-baked new UI that was set as default…)

    • They all have bugs and vulnerabilities …

    • I agree, I've been a huge fan of Unifi but lately seem to have gone down hill

  • +1

I've purchased 2 of these and there are a lot of software bugs at the moment, I can't save any settings I make to SSID name or password. I would probably wait until they fix the bugs before buying it.

  • This has issues with IOS devices disconnecting and unable to connect.
