This deal is getting worse all the time!

    • +14

Last month was great. It had its up and downs

    • +4

ROFL, this guy doesn't keep track

      • +1

haha expectation is high I guess.

    • +5

Agree. And if you look at the PSstore deals they're absolutely horrible too. 5 year old games for $30…yeah no thanks. PS5 games have not really had any sales at all either so hope you enjoy paying $125 for a single game. Wish I never bought the PS5. Xbox Gamepass makes it so much cheaper.

      • +6

Seeing that you can play tremendous amount of games backwards compatible makes Xbox more appealing too.

        • +4

There are rumours the PS5 will be backwards compatible up to PS3… but I'm not holding my breath. The Xbox game pass looks incredibly appealing. I'll keep my PS+ account active until it runs out. After that, I'm probably going to go to Xbox instead.

      • +9

I just buy physical copies for PS5, new games are around $59-69 at most stores. I use XBOX game pass for their selection of games, but very different selection of games, so really they go well together.
Not sure who on OZB pays full price on a digital copy lol. Xbox gamepass has great games, but by no means is it a complete selection. Missing huge amounts of great games.

All PsPlus does, is allow you to play online, and you also get access to 3 games for free each month, and if you get a PS5, you get free access to some of the best games available on PS through the PS Plus Collection.

        • Really stupid question here… Game Pass… it's like a library, right? I can download and play whatever is available?

          • @BadGiraffe: yea two parts to it, gamepass is just giving you access to play certain games on your own xbox/PC while they are on the catalogue. Ultimate lets you play games from the cloud (not installing the game at all).

            • @onlinepred: Does that let you play cloud games on PC as well? Not that it would matter anyway. My download speeds are not great.

              • @BadGiraffe: Only if you get gamepass ultimate. I did one of the tricks going around where you can get 3 years of ultimate for around $150.
I play gamepass cloud streaming games on my 11 year old PC and rarely needs more than 10-15Mb down and 5 up. Latency is what kills it, so I have everything cabled.

      • +1

Hence I'm keeping my PS4 Pro and also PC for freebies.

        PS5 is not worth it

        • +2

Got PS4 Pro and PS5, I prefer playing PS4 games on PS5 for higher fps and lower load times where supported. Ideally we'd have more PS5 native games by now, but I see the PS5 as a CPU, GPU, and storage upgrade to my PS4. When you look how much upgrade components for PC costs, upgrading to PS5 (especially after selling PS4) looks like a bargain.

I actually sold my PS4 Pro and bought another when I found you could hack them easily, kids have that with a whole bunch of kids games on.

          • +3

@FabMan: "for higher fps and lower load times where supported."

Yeah, it's pretty remarkable on some games. Street Fighter V on the PS5 is actually playable, compared to on the PS4. Load times between rounds are very short now.

        • I just got it for the load times for warzone lol

      • +1

Honestly most of my PS5 purchases have been second hand marketplace games. Paid 20 for Valhalla and 40 for Guardians of the Galaxy. There's rarely anything good in the store compared with Xbox, but theres a rare gem every now and then.

      • I haven't payed more than $49 for any of my physical PS5 games (I never buy digital, it's a scam IMHO).

Just wait for a sale or when they get a tiny bit older.

I've bought the following games at $49 (and many were much less):
Yakuza: LaD, Judgement, call of duty: Vanguard, mortal Kombat 11 ultimate, watch dogs: legion, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, demon souls, Resident Evil: Village, Deathloop.

Just gotta keep an eye on this site and be patient.

    • +4

There’s gonna be good months and bad ones. Chill out. Last month was a good one. Every month usually has something for someone. But not everything for everybody because that’s impossible.

      • +1

Agree I personally don't have time to play anyway so doesn't matter to me.

    • +1

The biggest let down is that people still can't get PS5s, so Sony are making more PS4s now but give extra Plus games for PS5 users?

Xbox released Forza 5, Halo infinite and so much more available to xbox one and series x with game pass.

The other most frustrating thing to learn is that if you decide psplus isn't worth the subscription, it's required to be active to play previous month games. So it is a subscription service.

When xbox had the same service 'games with gold' even if you didn't have a gold membership anymore. Once you claimed those games. You keep them. You didn't even need to be online to play them.

Sony really needs to do something special. Their exclusives are the only reason to have a PS4/5 IMO .

      • +2

That’s not true. You only have access to gold games as long as your sub is active.

        • No half true, 360 titles you dont need a sub they are yours to own. Xbox One and Series S/X games are subscription active only.

    • Lando would have switched sides to Xbox by now.

  • Wow, piss off Gearbox. Another demo

    • +12

It's a standalone version of the bl2 dlc. Has its own trophy list and even a platinum, around 25 hrs to complete.

    • +2

While I haven't played the standalone version - Tiny Tina's DLC is probably one of the best DLCs I have played for a game before period. It's incredibly funny with alot of heart but it might not feel the same if you haven't played Borderlands 2. Also, why are you complaining about FREE things?

      • +1

Not that I agree with OP, but we pay for PS plus…

        • +3

I guess, I normally think about it as a fee to play online rather than for the games

  • +10

Meh, can afford to be a crap month this month, between Dying light and Horizon won't have time to look at any of these freebies :)

    • +14

      Still gonna claim it tho

    • +1

People who complain about 40 free games a year for $70 odd dollars aren't paying $70- $100 for Horizon. I pre ordered Horizon. Haha and I would pay for PS+ online without the games. The games are a sweetener and I just add them all to my catalogue for later, and download them whenever in the future.

      • +2

Mine was $33 for the year

        • +1

Nice one! I loaded up at the sale last year so I think I paid maybe $50? A year until 2024ish

  • +8

UFC 4 is a pretty enjoyable title. Certainly much better than all the other numbered titles by EA, but obviously none of them will ever be as good as the classics that were published by THQ like Undisputed 3.

Interested to see if this Planet Coaster game is any good.

    • +3

Planet Coaster is good on PC, a spiritual successor to Roller Coaster Tycoon. Not sure what it's like on console though…

      • +2

Sounds potentially fun to those who have PS5.

    • +2

UFC4 was pretty bad. They messed up the grappling controls really bad so the majority of people had to switch back to classic mode. Career mode was a giant piece of turd, 0 depth to it and the most repetitive and boring system there was. Sign a fight, do training/sparring for 4 weeks in a fight camp which took half an hour by the time it was done, fight for 2 minutes because you're character is so OP that every fight ends in the first two minutes, repeat.

      I'd give UFC 4 a 6/10, not great.

    • +1

      Agreed.
THQ is an amazing studio for MMA/Wrestling games.

Brings me right back to WCW NwO revenge on N64.
No one has brought out a better wrestling since then.

THQ are masters of that genre, no one comes close!

  • The Mrs will no doubt like planet coaster.

  • +1

Rubbish month it seems. Could this be a sign of things to come for the alleged Project Sparticus?

Didn’t the offerings with Xbox Live Gold start to also get rubbish before the inevitable Game Pass subscription service released?

    • +2

Feb is a big month of big releases on PlayStation. It makes sense for PS+ offering toi be lackluster.

      • What titles are expected in feb?

        • +1

Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring for me. Also Dying Light 2 but I don't plan to get that at launch, maybe later on but.

          • +7

@Shaun Prawn: I read that Elden ring is similar to Demons Soul's. It's a no from me. While it has stunning visuals I'm not into repeating a level 400 times to pass it.

            • +2

@Wizard: it has a confirmed "story mode" so you can faceroll it and enjoy the story
Trophys etc are all tied to "standard/hard" mode however

        • +18
          • Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection (Jan 28)
          • Life is Strange Remastered Collection (Feb 1)
          • Dying Light 2: Stay Human (Feb 4)
          • Sifu (Feb 8)
          • King of Fighters XV (Feb 17)
          • Horizon Forbidden West (Feb 18)
          • Destiny 2: The Witch Queen (Feb 22)
          • Assetto Corsa Competizione (Feb 24)
          • GRID Legends (Feb 25)
          • Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires (Feb 25)
          • Elden Ring (Feb 25)
          • Elex II (Mar 1)
          • Babylon's Fall (Mar 3)
          • Gran Turismo 7 (Mar 4)

Plus a dozen other smaller titles so no real incentive to prop up PS+ with AAA titles at the moment.

          • +4

@Hybroid: I am super keen on Sifu, that looks great.

            • +1

@AngusD: Yes this, had my attention since the trailer released.

          • +2

@Hybroid: JFC I need to take Feb off work to be able to play all of these. Even just Uncharted, Horizon and Elden Ring will take weeks.

          • @Hybroid: So trash games and repackaged old games plus one AAA title.

            • @pompompom: Sure, for you. Not for millions of others. Better luck next month.

  • -2

Sony going downhill fast. Time to switch to MS

    • +3

      Agreed!

    • +2

I'm very much in the why not both camp.

  • +4

Hmm is this the monkey's paw of Gamepass being so good lately.

Although if anything, after Microsoft's recent acquisition you'd think Sony would want to be putting forth some strong showings to regain confidence..
What's up with only giving the PS4 version of Tiny Tina also, wtf?

    • +4

It's not the new Tiny Tina game, it's the DLC from Borderlands 2 made into a standalone game

      • +4

Yeah I know, which is even worse since they already gave the complete collection of the Borderlands games in the past which had it included.

Seems like a wasted slot for February =(

        • +2

Yeah, pretty sure it's just done as a way to market the new game. At first I was excited as I haven't played through Borderlands 2 yet, but then I was like "well, it's actually time I play through it"

  • +6

Really not that bad of a month? I guess Planet Coaster is a niche game as its a park building sim on PC, but as far as that genre goes its incredible. It saved the entire genre when Roller Coaster Tycoon died in the ass, and its reviewed extremely highly.

All UFC EA games get trashed because FiGhT nIgHt wHeN but they overhauled a lot of systems in this one and added some cool arenas like the backyard and kumite ones, plus if you're a UFC fan its just the best version of your sport gamified with updates rosters and improvements

Tiny Tina is just DLC that got split from the base game for some reason, just find Borderlands 3 for like $20 if its up your alley

  • +1

Games won't be available until about 10pm AEDT on 1st Feb

  • Good month been looking forward to planet coaster

  • +10

Ever since I've signed up for game pass, I wish i could cancel PS+ and get the refund.

  • +2

I've platinumed Planet Coaster on PS5 and played quite some UFC 4 on Gamepass but would have loved this month if I haven't already played 2 out of 3.

    • +1

I played Planet Coaster back on PC when it launched and really enjoyed it, did you find any difficulties in the controls given its built for mouse & keyboard or was it pretty easy to pick up?

      • Was very surprised how easy it was to control. First time playing a building-sim on a console and it worked really well. Tbh the actual coaster building was a bit more of a pain.

  • +1

i am very surprised they are still supporting alot of PS4 games on ps plus, just one ps5 game?? really?

    • Reason to keep the old folks with ps4 happy. Frankly I won't pay for PS4 sub if no free games at all

    • There are a lot of ps5 games, but not nearly as many as on ps4. Also, since virtually all ps4 games work on Ps5, it just makes more sense to have more ps4 games for free.

  • +5

Have you guys noticed how every transaction we make on Aussie PS Store with credit card is actually an overseas transaction and hides a foreign fee unless the card is foreign fee free?

    • That is true. I noticed when I paid with my Commbank credit card.

    • +5

May be just use PayPal. I've always paid in AUD with no extra foreign transaction fees.

    • Sorry can you explain this again please. Do even the free transactions have a hidden fee?

      • -2

No. Do you need a credit card for a free game?

        • +1

No idea tbh, that's why I was asking you.

    • +1

yeah, because the AU playstation store is actually run out of the UK. I tend to use prepaid credit which you can buy from JB or EB or wherever (especially when I could get discounted gift cards), plus I've got a 28 degrees MasterCard which has no foreign transaction fees, so I use that if I do make a credit card payment.

    • +1

nope because i use PS gift cards because when they go on sale. so I never give sony my cc details.

  • +1

PsPlus definitely can't compete with what Microsoft is offering with Gamepass…..Sony guy's say gamepass isn't sustainable but is paying $140 a game sustainable like Ratchet and Clank at release?

    • +1

Where did you got Ratchet and Clank for $140??

    • +5

Funny how I got it for $59

    • +5

Ps+ is not a competitor to game pass. If anything, it's equivalend to xbox gold. Which it easily competes with.
      Let's see what Spartacus does.

    • +1

You completely missed the point though. It’s not sustainable for Microsoft, not the consumer…

Microsoft are putting some games day one which they are paying huge sums of money for, all the while charging as low as $10 per month while only having a measly 25 million subs.

Sony on the other hand are charging full price out the gate.

      • -2

Do you think Sony are gonna sell more games commanding a price of $125 like Ratchet and Clank and Returnal digitally or $110 physical…
I think consumers particularly on the PlayStation platform are going to be a lot more selective and wait for a hard sale before a game purchase

  • Isn't UFC 4 the latest? Hard game to play tho

  • Probably just Planet Coaster for me. Don't care about primate fighting or Randy Pitchford's get rich quick catalogue.

  • +1

Yes, I'm actually pretty happy about this month as I would love to play Planet Coaster. Its a native PS5 app too, not just back compat so should be very smooth. I'd also like Two-Point Hospital one day as well. Love these types of games.

  • -4

    Shite games

  • Planet Coaster and Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep are my type of games, great month for me!

  • +5

How the F is Planet Coaster (2016 BTW) considered a PS5 game FFS. How about some real PS5 games. What a crap month.

  • As someone lucky enough to have a high end gaming PC, XBSX, PS5 and Switch, this is just another another rubbish release of games for February from Sony. Since getting my PS5 last May it’s mostly gathered dust other than for Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank although I am playing Resident Evil Village on it that a friend lent to me. Overall though it has been really disappointing, and I don’t see it changing until GT7 comes out.

Game Pass is miles better value across Xbox and PC, and now even has cloud gaming if that’s your thing. Particularly giving MS first party games on day one. Getting Forza or Halo (not even my thing) on day one is a pretty great deal.

PS Plus just seems like a dumping ground for shovelware. Might as well put mobile games on it, how about Asphalt 9 or Angry Birds? It’s basically almost disrespectful now.

I thought Sony would try harder but it doesn’t seem like they care. I wish they would give us something more compelling - it seems way more expensive to play games exclusively on PlayStation.

  • When are these games free?, I want to add UFC 4 but it still says $99.95
