In my breville machine manual it tells you the ratio of vinegar/water to descale. Why would you bother with this?

    • For harder scale you will need more concentrated citric acid. I believe coffee machine repair men use more % of citric acid to descale boiler. This is 10% to 30%.

      • This is 10% to 30%

That is ridiculous. Pure lemon juice is only a few percent. max solubility is less than 10%.

What about coffee machine repair women?

    • aaahhh - easy, dont bother then…

Otherwise, depending on the hardness of the water in your area, you may/may not want to get yourself some. :)

    • Citric acid will not leave an aftertaste, like vinegar does.

    • Also normal price on the filter.
Ordered two last year at this price and checked price the other day, still the same.

    Breville Eco Liquid Descaler

    I cannot recommend this.

Tried it on some Snapper that I caught in the bay a few weeks back and it does not work !!!

Maybe your snapper ain't pink jv :/

    • Didn't work at Jenny Craig either …what are we doing??

    • Did it have three eyes?

  • Could you use CLR instead?

    • +4

As per CLR label - no

    Normal price

      "-12% $28.99 ($2.90 /100 ml)
      RRP: $32.94 "

Otherwise - I dunno. Needed the filter and added this to the order. Meh!

I used citric acid on my kettle, just a few shakes and came out perfect (also works amazing for toilets). I would feel a lot safer drinking potential residual citric acid compared to a commercial descaler

If any of you have The Good Guys Commercial they have this product for $22 and all the Breville brand cleaning/maintenance things for your coffee machine for a lower price than what you may normally find .

    • good price.. when i tried it showed 27$

  • I just mix some citric acid with warm water then add that into the tank.

  • Citric acid is the best descaler for coffee machines.

And for the "cleaning cycle", use Sodium Percarbonate.

A 1kg tub of that is $3 at the supermarket. e.g. "Coles Ultra Oxy Action Laundry Booster".
(this goes in the coffee holder head thingy, not the water tank!)

    • Ingredients:

      Citric acid 10-30%
      Tartaric acid 1-10%
      Anionic surfactants <5%

  • Do you a liquid descale when running water filters in a Breville?

    • Instructions tell you to remove the filter while doing a descale
