That is a good deal for this monitor. It's the one I initially wanted but the Dell s2721DGF was always on sale for cheaper. Same panel, it'll just be different build, stand and OSD.

    rtings.com review for it
    https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gn850-b

Low contrast ratio, and without local dimming, blacks appear gray when viewed in the dark.
    SDR Real Scene 321 cd/m²
    HDR Peak 50% Window 326 cd/m²
The LG 27GN850 has mediocre HDR peak brightness. It only gets a bit brighter than in SDR, and highlights quickly lose their brightness the longer they stay on the screen. It's not enough to make highlights pop the way the creator intended in HDR. We measured the HDR peak brightness in the 'Gamer 2' Picture Mode.

No good if you are interested in HDR gaming/movies, more of a marketing thing than an actual feature. Poor blacks and barely an increase in brightness over SDR result in a useless HDR mode.

Also take note of this for gaming:

The response time at its max refresh rate of 144Hz is incredible. The recommended overdrive setting is 'Normal' as it results in crisp motion and minimal blur with almost no overshoot. The 'Fast' and 'Faster' settings result in too much overshoot and motion blur

Buying a HDR400 monitor for HDR is kinda your own fault tbf

      • I didn't buy it but just thought it's useful to post this info. So many monitors these days presenting as HDR but being useless at it, worth doing research before buying as initially it sounds like a great deal. Proper HDR is a game changer for movies & gaming.

        • Oh I do agree - the HDR situation with monitors sucks.

  • Damn monitors have come down alot! The same spec a couple of years ago was double the price.
Shame no one can afford a decent GPU to take advantage of them

My friend bought this monitor to replace his Umart $199 24 inch TN 60hz benq monitor from 2008. Now he doesn't want to leave his house.

I guess he really got his money's worth on the old monitor.

Damn I thought 700 for my 27gl850 was a good deal back in the day. This is a great price

    FYI QHD is 2560 x 1440

  • Does anyone know what is the difference between this and the previous model being the GL version from last year. I.E does this version have the same specs and drivers. Does the os recognize them as the GL version? Ultimately
can this model pair with the GL for nvidia surround gaming?

    • I was interested in this too, and from a quick look it appears to me that they are very similar, with the rimary difference being that the GL850 has a USB hub whereas the GN850 does not. Don't quote me on there being no further differences though! All in all this looks great to me, I'll probably grab it.
