Or $35 from Ikea. No deal here.

I personally got a small rug for $15 from Ikea that I think is better as it's softer

    • It's not identical, this one has stuff on the underside to grip a carpet so you don't need to reposition it when it creeps. Wouldn't be surprised if ikea has a similar version.

The IKEA one I use is on carpet and hasn't moved a cm.

I have the IKEA one too and it does move a few cm on carpet every week or two (you generally won't notice it until it's shifted back a few cm). I am still WFH 5 days a week and I have a stand-up desk so there's probably more rolling of my office chair back and forth during the day when I switch between standing and sitting, so maybe that explains our different experiences.

I can confirm the IKEA one is different and doesn't have those studs on the bottom to act as a grip, which makes it bloody annoying to have to reposition the mat every week or two.

        • That'll all depend on the carpet, the mat, the chair and how your move around. The fact remains, it's not the same product.

    • Which rug do you use?

  • I bought one from IKEA for $29 a year ago and it's as good as any I've had. Might be more now with inflation.

RRP $129 is just silly, it's a piece of plastic

This is 2mm thick where as the op is 5mm nice and thick

    • exactly, i dont even know why this post is on ozbargain, its not even a bargain to begin with!

  • Any suggestions for a carpet/rug version that can be used on carpet? I'm not a fan of the plastic ones.

    • I want to know too

    • I’ve seen people (on Reddit) use those engineered flooring cut offs

    • Get big casters.

I just use a big carpet tile from Bunnings. Have to relocate it every now and then but it's held up 7 years so far. The PVC backing is starting to disintegrate a bit but hey, 7 years is pretty good. The actual carpet top still practically looks brand new.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/standard-carpets-1000-x-1000mm-c…

  • I bought one of these a few years ago.
Even after leaving it outside for a few days the off-gassing from the PVC was too much for me.
    I had to return it.

  • The ad doesn't mention what type of material the mat is which is pretty poor. If it's PVC, then no way is it worth $129 (or even $56 for that matter). But if it's polycarbonate or something else, then that would explain the high price. Very strange they don't mention the material, which to me leads me to believe they have used the cheapest material possible (PVC)

  • Price depends on thickness by the way. The super thin stuff is worthless.

If you are replacing an old one and need to get rid of it I can recommend long handled garden loppers.

Made quick work of one of my old cracked ones - reduced it to bin size pieces in a few minutes.

    • Now this is a worthwhile comment!!

  • Costco has similar, however full rectangle with rounded edges. I'm sure it's cheaper than this but don't remember the price. Got mine a few weeks ago

  • they quite cheap on ebay less than $30 from memory

    • The ones on eBay stink of PVC, like I’ve been trying for weeks to get rid of the smell to no success

  • I thought the latest craze for office chairs was to use floating timber floorboards

    $35 from bunnings

    • Check the reviews for the Bunnings one: "Lasted less than 6 months, cracks and eventually falls apart". Probably because thickness is only 2mm……
