Even better. Free brush with every purchase!

      Why is brushless better?

      • +6

Brushless motors are better at everything compared to brushed motors. Durability, power, efficiency, noise.

I remember my step dad had a corded drill that used to sound like a 1000s wire bushes scraping on metal that was before you even started trying to drill anything and you could see it sparking through the vents in the side of it lol thank god those aren't around any more.
For anyone who knows what they are talking about what's a good drill for around the house that's gonna be able to handle mostly drilling into wood, plaster & to screw/assemble stuff but can also handle a few holes in masonry (not looking for anything industrial happy to go gently when doing this) I've visited binnings a few times and there's a huge price differential so I don't really know where to start. Also does any particular brand really stand out with the longevity of their tools/batteries?
Maybe not the place to ask but if anyone has a bit of free time and wants to share their wisdom it'll be appreciated.
PS. I'm looking to get a new line trimmer, mower & a sander over the next 6 months or so if that effects your recommendation. Tx

@Clarky77: I was in a similar position and ended up going with the DeWALT 18V 5Ah XR Li-Ion Brushless Hammer Drill Driver Kit. This one/similar seemed to have high reccomendations online and should last you the long time.

            https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-18v-5ah-xr-li-ion-brushle…

Ps. I originally had the Ozito PXC 18v, and the charger failed. Most of my other experiences with the Ozito were fine but in comparison to the DeWALT its night and day (no surpises there considering the price).

            • @TitaniumOvaries: Thanks I'll keep it in mind, my grandfather (he was a boilermaker who made tanker trailers for transporting milk/petrol ECT) always considered DeWalt the premium brand although back then I think they were mostly made in the US. $220 doesn't seem bad if you know it's gonna last the distance but there's a lot of negative reviews when ever I've looked, but possibly tradies who really work their tools hard and have higher expectations.

@Clarky77: This drill is gonna handle light household use but may struggle with masonry or pine once you hit about 1in diameter holes.

          • @Clarky77: The brushless Ozito PXC drill is amazing and tough as nails. I have given mine and absolute flogging for years and it is still going strong. I have done light jobs with it but also built a retaining wall and put in a deck with it.

The Ozito PXC tools are pretty good value in general and have a solid gold warranty. You can't go wrong.

          • @Clarky77: Masonry you'd normally use a hammer drill. You can maybe get away with using a normal drill + a masonry drill bit but it'd take alot longer. Depends on how many holes and how large.

This drill for $30 would be fine for everything else. Add an impact driver for driving screws in. Ozito is more than fine. I have them and Makita.

If you aren't a tradesman, the brushless expense is dollars you will not need to spend - $30 is a bargain

    • I love the smell of brushes!
Mine has outlasted many dearer ones!

Nice deal, I'll pop to B Town later and see if there is one to keep at Mum's house

    • +32

I chatted with your mum just now. She said she doesn't want one and doesn't want to store it.

      • +2

I asked her again, she thought it was the corded version, she said grab it and she'll put it in the shed behind the chicken coop.

The battery alone is $35, great deal!

    • +2

That's a bit of a low bar to call 1.5Ah battery $35 as a reasonable price to begin with :P.

      • +1

Haha yeah, I have so many in my shed never used with all the ozbargained kits :)

        • -1

Yep the 1.5Ah battery is a good torch battery but not much use on a tool that's more thirsty.

Somewhat off topic, I see people bag out cheap lithium power tools all the time (sometimes quite rightly) , but often it's a case of a bad battery match up.
To get the best out of any battery tool grunt wise, it's best to use the highest capacity battery you can afford.
I find one 4Ah battery is better for everything, rather than 4x 1.5Ah packs…

          • +4

@sneezy: If you're doing light work, like fixing pictures on a gyprock wall, the 1.5Ah batteries are fine and reduce fatigue by reducing tool weight.

          • +1

@sneezy: The 1.5 battery is great for jobs where you may want less weight. I use 2 X 1.5Ah on my line trimmer.

  • Great value

  • Any good for bricks

    • +6

Nah you need the hammer drill

    • I've used this on bricks fine? Does get hot.

      • Get a hammer drill, you will never look back.

    • Old clay bricks yes. Concrete no!

  • +1

This is their super-basic drill. Only has 10mm chuck, single-speed gearbox and chuck does not lock so you need to hold it with two hands to loosen or tighten it.

Still, for $30 its worth it for the battery and the drill is ideal for building flatpack furniture and other light duty assembly/disassembly of things.

  • Thanks for posting Op.

  • +1

    None in greenacre

  • +2

with the 1.5ah battery these must be very old stock

  • Has anyone in Victoria had a look to see if there's any stock? I wouldn't mind one just for basic jobs and assemblies.
I can't find it online but if anyone sees any at Sunshine, Maribyrnong or West Footscray please post I'll drop by after work.

    • Doesn’t appear to be any stock at any of those places.

          • @tonyjzx: There was some webapp to check bunners stock… Not sure whether it stil exists….

        • Learn to program :)

  • Fyshwick Warehouse (4056) could potentially have it at $15 - there probably is no stock though

    Anything in WA?

    • Nothing in Malaga, I asked at the desk too.

I might try one near home tonight, I'll ask if they can run the numbers off the label image to see if any around locally.

  • Sold out in Lismore and Ballina. One in Byron apparently, which I won't bother with. Would have been good. I'm after a second smaller and lighter drill.

  • wow just wow

  • Can confirm this one. Picked one up at Belrose this morning. Still a few left.

  • Can't go wrong for $30

Had one of these for a couple years. It's fine for general home use and small projects, just don't expect too much from it.

  • 0 in wa

  • Great price for an entry level drill.

The battery itself sells for $39

  • Low Tier / DIY tool. Very basic and won't last long after 5 years warranty.
