Does anyone know for how long you have to port out to another provider before being able to port back in? I'm currently with Boost and my plan runs out in a week.

    • +5

You can port back in straight away. Just did the Boost to VF to Boost dance.

      • Awesome. Thanks for the heads up :)

        • Much the same with a port to optus and back

          • @gearboxtech: Thanks. It just ethically feels wrong to ask Boost to apply the credit to new sim pack. Seeing that I've ordered the Voda sim, might as well port out and port back in after a day or two.

            • +1

@gadgetfreak28: I don't get what you are trying to explain?

              • @shegeloaf: Seeing that the Boost live chat is just a way around, I was saying that I rather port out to Voda, use it for a week and port back in to make the most of this deal :)

    • +9

Just a quick note that you can drop Boost a line on their customer chat, and they will match these deals for existing customers. Just purchased another 12 months last week, buzzed them and got the extra data and a $50 refund into my PayPal account.

      • +1

Was there any hesitation for them to do this? I just bought another 30gb last week for a recharge.

        • +6

Not at all. Simply said this is what there is for new people and I am a current customer, can I get the same offer.
You have to do the recharge at the standard price through them first, wait for payment to clear (about 24 hours) and then buzz them back on chat to get extra data and refund.
Only took about 2-3 mins all up so well worth it.

          • @tjc589: awesome, cheers mate

          • @tjc589: Just been told they wont price match… hmm

"We won't be able to price match with other providers as the reason for the slight difference is that you'll be on Australia's largest and most reliable network. We cover more than 2.5 million square metres which is 1 million more than any other provider"

            • +1

@mistermarky: WOW- maybe try a different person for chat.
At a minimum I would be asking them to match what they are giving new users directly on their site. They are usually selling these at a $20-$30 discount on the Boost site, so worth asking if they will give you that rate as an existing customer.

            • +3

@mistermarky: They aren't needing to price match other providers. It's their own deal for new customers.

              • +2

@eraser215: That's why i just por out for 1hr then buy a new boost sin and enjoy the deal.

      • To be clear, you were able to use this to get 140GB for $152 via a refund?

        • +3

I just did exactly that. Recharged with the $200 plan, and got a $50 refund via payment method an 40gb bonus added. First try, no hesitation as my account was in good standing order.

          • @cheaponos: I tried that last July and they wouldn't do it for me. I figured I had the great deal the year before and thought it was a wonderful service and well worth it in any case. Next recharge I will do the telco dance.

      • I tried this and was knocked back, see response on chat:

"We don't have any connection with the third party seller that is offering the $152 sim card and we don't do price matching with other seller. If you see that the sim card they are offering is cheaper and will let you save more then you can purchase the sim card through them. What we offer officially in our website is this here in the link.
        https://boost.com.au/products/200-prepaid-sim

Which is a new sim card for $180 12 month sim card with 140GB data.

We highly advised to only buy sim card from our website to get sim card offers. However we are not stopping our customer if they see another boost sim card offer with a lower price from another store."

      • @tjc589: Thanks worked for me :)

    • +2

You don't even need to port out. Just contact them on their live chat and they will handle it for you. Please also see other comments bellow, particularly from @tjc589

    • +3

I rang and told them I'd ordered a new SIM online in error, thinking I could use it as a recharge. Asked if they could pretty please have the balance transferred to existing number and they did it.

    • I chatted with Boost online, they can activate the new sim and change the phone number for you. No need to port out.

  • +4

we suggest you use 3 to 5 days. the vodafone 30$ sim (add 3.8$) actually can use up to 28 days with 40gb data.

    • Thanks. Can I still make unlimited calls within the 3-5 days that I'm on with Voda?

      • Yes, but depends on which country you calling to. India, USA, UK, China etc around 10 nations are unlimted

        • Cool. That will do. If I place the order now, do you reckon the sim will get here to Melbourne by next week?

          • @gadgetfreak28: Just placed an order and chose express shipping for an extra $1. Thanks for posting this deal. Very timely indeed :)

  • Well, I've goofed and put the wrong address on the order. Have emailed to sort it out.

    • So, only the suburb is not right, other address components are right?

      • Yep, suburb and post code of course.

  • My current plan with optus expire in 5 days. If i order now when will i get the sim (I am in VIC)?

    • +1

We ship from Victoria, normally process with in 24 days. Australia post express (next day service) says it's got 80% delivered in 2 working days for metropolitan areas. so depends on your luck.

      • +3

        24 days or 24 hours?

        • -3

          Fairly obvious m8.

      • I ordered 5:30am on Tuesday. They didn't send until 3pm Friday. My contract rolls over tomorrow the 7th and I opted for express post. Any reason for the 3 day delay?

  • Perfect timing! my plan expires in March.

  • Thanks OP. Perfect timing my moose Sim runs out next month. Great deal.

  • I have seen some comments that Telstra prepaid customers were getting 5G (even though it's advertised for postpaid plans only). Can anyone confirm that?

    • -1

You won't need 5G if you're double dose vaccinated :)

      • What if you're single dosed?

        • Then you get 2.5G. Sort of half the speeds. Haha

    • +1

Need to chat with customer support to activate 5G. Have been using Telstra 5G on $300 prepaid for a year.
Time to port out and port in.

      • Just clarifying you're using Telstra prepaid plan and got 5g from chatting with customer support?

        • +1

          Yes

          • +1

@xfelix: So you just told them that you want to activate 5g on a 4g prepaid plan?

  • +1

I'm a current Telstra Post Paid, contract runs out in March - I don't need to port out to get into Boost do I?

    • +1

a few reported issue when porting Telstra / Belong into Boost.
some mentioned Boost will need to mail out a special SIM ..

i will port to Voda or Optus first .. and Woolies/Coles has Optus Starter Pack for $10-15 quite regularly.

      • i am coming from Belong. So port out first then?

    • +1

With the sheer amount of (profanity) involved, I highly suggest you get an optus or vodafone $2 sim, port out in a few mins and port to your new sim.

    • +2

I was with Telstra and ported to boost. Had a nice call with a lady from boost. Took her all of 10 minutes for her to do the transfer on her end. I think they have blank Sims there that they use to do it. This was a year ago though. I know they used to send you a blank Sim but wasn't the case when I did it.

  • +1

Ordered! Loved the port-in/port-out sim card option haha (didn't get it though :P )

  • What mobile service do you guys port to from Boost then port it back?

    • +2

I ported to kogan $2.90 20gb sim and ported it back to boost a week later.

      • is a week sufficient?

      • I did the same, although ported back to boost within minutes after being activated on kogan. All worked seamlessly and occurred within 10 minutes. We always have a spare kogan sim lying around so its easy to order online and get the code…then the next time we need to port out we have the next SIM available.

    • +1

You don't need to do this. Talk to them on live chat and they will sort it.

      • +1

Really, you just buy another 12 months and renew it with the same number?

        • Yes, that's correct. Do it via live chat. The only thing I will say is that their provisioning is a little painful, and that any leftover data etc. is not rolled over.

      • Confirmed this technique works. Just hop on the live chat, they will ask if why you don’t recharge but change to new sim, simply said it’s cheaper and they will sort thing out for you

  • I just want the voda $30 sim.

    • +2

Worst network. Along with kogan and all the other MVNOs on vodafone. Wasnt too far from Metro VIC over the weekend and absolutely no signal at all. No access to google maps, I got lost trying to go home. What a joke!

  • Perfect timing! My plan was going to end in march :)

Quick noob question, I'm currently on catch mobile connect, is there going to be any problem to port in?

    • +2

No. You won't. When you initiate a port in request, Boost mobile is going to send a text message with a 6 digit code to your current sim. Keep your original sim from CatchConnect in the phone. You have to reply to that text message with that 6 digit code. This is basically to ensure that you are the owner of that number and you are not pinching someone else's number. After replying to that text message your current sim will stop working and you can start using your Boost Mobile SIM with your current number working on Boost SIM. I did that for a friend of mine last Friday and it took less than 5 minutes to get the Boost SIM working. Just make sure you do not do that after hours or on the weekend because I believe they intentionally make it harder to keep the customers safe for SIM swap scams

      • Thanks!

  • Anyone used Boost for international travel? I need only incoming messages while travelling overseas and just wondering if Boost supports incoming SMS while roaming?

    • +1

I have used BOOST while being overseas and I do get incoming texts while being overseas as they are required in verifying bank, mygov logins etc verifications.

      • If it supports incoming messages while being overseas, then I am fine. I don't really need incoming or outgoing calls as I can use my local SIM for that … I am more concerned about the OTPs needed for all the verifications you mentioned above and as long as I receive them, I am happy to go to Boost. Thanks

    • +1

      Copied from their webiste:

International roaming is not available on your Boost Mobile service.

However, we are planning to launch a new version of international roaming in early 2022

    • +1

I can confirm that boost does not support international roaming. I tried to use it in Thailand last month and it cannot receive message or make a call even I connect it to wifi. My wife's mobile is on Telstra and she can make wifi calling without being charged extra fees.

    • +2

That's the reason I am leaving Boost now. On my recent overseas trip it became a horror thing. MFA codes from work, from bank, from Ausgov/medicare etc couldn't get them. To make things worse my wife was also on Boost. So both of us were completely off the grid.

I had setup a Skype voip number and asked them to put in call-forwarding but they couldn't activate it unless my phone was connected to their network (of course that was not possible as I was already overseas. Chat based website support is quite slow in getting things done. Lodged complaints that took weeks and still they couldn't do anything.

Finally I had to get a replacement sim posted to one of my mates in Aus and asked for his help to put the sim in, set up voice call forwarding and get the sms codes when needed etc.

Arriving back in Aus and now no phone connection (mate was living a bit far). I then bought their sim from Coles, they activated it but then had to give up my credit balance as a replacement sim could only be ordered online and that could take 3-5 business days to deliver (no! couldn't live without my phone that long). After a lot of chat they gave me 40GB and $50 credit as compensation.

      Enough, moving out now

      • I was under the impression Boost supported Wifi calling and SMS (if your phone supported them). This is the reason i'm moving to Boost…

      • where to?

      • Do you mean you didn't receive the incoming SMS while being overseas?

        • +1

No sms, no roaming couldn't connect to any overseas network so yeah no sms

      • I asked their support team they said it's coming in H1 2022 - which could mean June.

I am looking to at least switch my partner's number to a roaming capable SIM to avoid this horror story and make sure important 2FA SMS's are sent to her number.

        Any roaming SIM recommendations?

        • +1

Aldimobile $5 pack starter pack, leave it PAYG. Roaming is free, receiving sms is free. Leave a phone on a charger with your current sim and set up forwarding

    • Couple of my friends have been outside of Australia in December 2021 and were able to call and text to Australia using vowifi without any issues

  • Can we use to recharge? Cheers.

  • +1

If you're on Aldi Mobile, would you need to port out/in?

    • Want to know this too

    • No

  • Perfect timing, mine runs out end of Feb! Thanks! Ordered with Vodafone throw away sim

  • +1

Dang, I haven't even activate my sim from previous deal.
I hope the 140gb deal will apply to those sim card as well

  • Currently with boost. Looks like the Telstra deal is almost on par with Boost?
Is it possible to port from Boost to Telstra or do I need to port out to another provider?

  • Thanks Op got the bundle for Boost and Vodafone for port in port out AU$155.80, cheers

  • Thanks OP… Like your deals.. repeat order placed. Cheaper than last year..!!

  • how long until this deal expires?

    • I want to know too.

  • How does data work with this?

    • You get all the data once the Sim is activated. It's not month to month.

  • After 20 years with Optus I moved to a 12mth Boost plan last August due to poor coverage in a dense urban area (Optus playing with their towers).
Getting my number ported was a nightmare because of a middle name on my drivers licence and not on my phone records, note you have to deal with Telstra on this issue, not Boost.
Otherwise, for the past 6 months best decision made, great coverage everywhere, includes overseas phone calls and great mobile hotspot.
Would definately do a deal like this one again.

  • Purchased and paid for express!

  • Just in time - ordered

  • Is there anyway to get discounted recharge rate for an existing Boost mobile service? I have lots of unused data and like to roll over.
