A deal, but not a great one. This is not a dig at you of course OP as you're just posting, but that RRP here is BS. Who in the world bought these for that price.

The Philips Fidelio X2HR which are an upgrade over these in almost every aspect, often go down on special to between $150 and $190. That is great value.

which are an upgrade over these

Is it tho? Some, like me, would much prefer a more neutral, "flatter" sound signature and say that these are an upgrade. I guess the only real "upgrade" is the build quality (tho the X2HR does have it's fair share of plastic like for the grill and earcups)

    • Rtings shows the SHP9500 has better treble accuracy which some people might prefer. Though I still recommend the X2HRs as well.

    • These definitely cater to audiences with wildly different sound signatures. The Fidelios have a much larger soundstage, but a much stronger bass. Some, including myself, may prefer the more neutral soundstage of the SHP9500.

      It just isn't that simple.

      • While that is true, and I am one of those people who prefers neutral headphones. The majority of the population do prefer more V shaped headphones, and that does not take away from the fact that at $150 this isn't really a bargain, while the Fidelio X2 is a bargain at that price. Preference and quality are two different things.

      • Huh this explains so much. I had the 9500 and loved them (when they were $60 haha!) , then upgraded to the X2s and have been incredibly disappointed for the last few years. I thought it was just my hearing going bad. I may have to ditch my X2s…

        • If that's the case, you'd definitely enjoy the Sennheiser HD6X0 line (HD600, HD650, HD660s) depending on your budget. There's also the HD6XX from Massdrop, which is an in-between the HD600 and HD650, but cheaper than both.

Also the Audio Technica AD900X, AD1000X, and AD2000X depending on budget. All, very enjoyable and neutral headphones, I would argue even more neutral than the Sennheisers, but they're too flat for most people.

          • @ThatsCheap: Ah legend mate! You've probably given me the impetus to actually replace mine now haha.

        • I’d love to buy them from you if you’re really planning getting rid of them

Man that's a pretty steep price for a supposedly budget cans

Would the 9600mb for 165 be a better deal

    • 9600MB seems to be a downgrade from the 9500 according to Rtings. Seems to be a common theme with Phillips headsets.

  • +1

They were $140 on eBay a few weeks ago, but now same $150 price.

  • Can these be driven with 3.5mm jack without requiring additional hardware?

    • +2

      Yes

These have been $100 on AliExpress since… forever.

They're okay for $150… not really a bargain. Even amazon has them for that price normally.

That being said, I did buy these headphones for around $100 2 years ago and have been using them ever since as my daily driver. I've got a big head and these were the only headphones that I could actually wear for hours (4-8hrs) without it giving me a headache.

    • That is the same link as OP

    • I paid roughly that at the end of 2019 and added on a vmoda boompro inline mic to turn it into a headset. Over time they become more comfortable (initially a bit tight) and because of the driver size and openness fit over your ear without being overly heavy or hot (relatively).

  • What is the connector type to plugin the cable? Is it a standard 3.5mm. Can I plugin my 3.5mm cable with mic and remote into these headphones to use them for meetings?
