Fantastic price for PS Plus subscribers, don’t have time to play it so might wait and see if it arrives on PS Plus free or whatever the merging of PS Now looks like.

    • +2

      Do you think it will?

I remember looking at this a long time ago, $15 is pretty cheap

      • It is, if you’ve been keen on this a long time AND have the time to play, pull the trigger. I have too many others, i.e. Demon’s Souls, FFVII: Remake etc. to contend with rn

This is finally at the price point for me to buy so I can play it on VR for fifteen minutes then never play it again.

    • +2

The main game outside of VR isn't that bad, hovering around 80 on Metacritic.

Thanks. Been meaning to play this.. grabbed it at the PS+ price. Still might never find time to play it.

  • +2

Damn it. Had been looking at this the last year waiting for it to hit $20 and gave up on last month's sale and got it for $27 and still haven't played it!

  • I had the normal disc version, bought the season pass and a few DLCs. Does anyone know if I could just pick this up to complete the rest of the DLCs and still use my basic af disc to access everything?

Or would I require to boot up the deluxe edition digital version?

    • Because you own the disc and have it installed, can you just head to the store and check the price of the DLC? Or if it's in-game DLC, head to wherever it is ingame and check the price?
Now, commonsense will prevail… if the price of the DLC in total is more than this Deluxe Digital version with all the DLC.. then just buy this! It will have the bonus of not having to insert the disc when you want to play it. You can keep the disc for nostalgia, or sell it, or use it as trade-in dollars some time in the future.

    • So the Deluxe edition only seems to include these DLCs (which are part of the "Season Pass" that you already have):
      - ADF-11F Raven (also includes "Mobius 1" F-22A skin)
      - ADF-01 FALKEN (also includes "Sol Squadron" Su-30M2 skin)
      - ADFX-01 Morgan (also includes "Mihaly" Su-30SM & X-02S skins)
      - DLC Mission 1 - Unexpected Visitor
      - DLC Mission 2 - Anchorhead Raid
      - DLC Mission 3 - Ten Million Relief Plan

PlayStation is a bit messy when switching from disc to digital - I think it requires you to delete the disc version from your downloads and redownload the game again (definitely backup your save first, especially if you don't have PS+ Cloud Saves enabled).

I don't think you actually gain any DLC with this (and the F-104C is apparently baked into the digital version)? The only new things you would get are the emblems, F-104C (not a separate DLC so won't work with your disc copy), the AC5 download and the option to not have to use the disc.

      • @jowo @Tricky83 thanks for the reply. Looking at the PSN page, the deluxe seems to just show a list of addons, most of which is marked as purchase but some are showing with a price tag so I am inclined to think I could theoretically download just the DLC on its own. I will take the plunge and report back

Edit: the conclusion is the deluxe edition mainly includes season pass and some emblems. It does not include all DLC. I had the season pass already so I've just ended up double dipping on this haha. At least I don't need the disc to play now?

And hey, at least now you also get to enjoy Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War! (I hear it's a classic, I haven't got around to playing it yet myself)

      • Yep you were right. Maybe a few emblems and gthe F-104C. And yeah I had to delete the install to re-download it as a digital game. Cheers Bud

  • Finished this last year and the game is ok. The control is good, music is great, but mission winning condition are annoying/unfair. I end up need to change difficulty down to easy to finish it off.

i remember paying $99 for Distant Thunder for PS2. I don't reget it, great series.

  • I love this soundtrack~!

I think this was on game pass last year. Decent single player game.

There are only 3 PSVR missions so don't think it's worth it for that.

Isn't this the only PSVR supported flight sim?

      • +1

I'd count Star Wars: Squadrons as one.
There's also some 'RC' flight sim that lets you use follow mode (so basically abandoning the RC part) that came out recently that it sounds like people are having fun with.

Thanks OP, can confirm AC5 included!

It's not listed, but in EU regions (including Australia), the PS4 AC7 Deluxe Edition from the PS Store also includes the PS4 port of Ace Combat 5 (cannot be purchased separately).

    • Dang, makes me want to rebuy it on PS now. AC5 and AC7 are my two favourites.

    • Wow, didn't realise, got it just for that!

    • Already got the US version of AC7 Deluxe a couple years ago, so literally getting this just for the improved version of AC5, lol.

BTW, for those who already have it, does the PS4 version of AC5 have controls updated to match AC7, or is it still based on the PS2 controls?

Also, anyone tried it with the Thrustmaster HOTAS 4?

      • Answering my own questions, based on investigating a few online sources (since my PS4 is currently packed away for moving house):

The PS4 version of AC5 has controls updated to match AC7. The main changes being L1/R1 for Yaw, and L2/R2 for decelerate/accelerate (the PS2 version had it the other way around). Also map zoom has been moved to the touchpad, while the Square button now switches your secondary weapon.

Unfortunately, by all reports I can find, the Thrustmaster HOTAS 4 is somehow NOT compatible with the PS4 version of AC5. Which is a huge pity, but with how much fun I had with using the HOTAS 4 for AC7 VR, I have no regrets.

For anyone after the PC version, currently $21.23 on Steam (or $23.29 for the Deluxe version) but only for the next 8 hours!
