Image says without GPS. which will make it not that good deal.

    • +1

Curious to know why you think so. I am very interested in just having a record of what happens on camera, never owned a dash cam before. I would assume if something happened id stop straight away and my phone would record my location.

Is there something I'm missing with GPS that makes it a game changer?

      • +5

Not only 100% verification of locaction and direction of the footage, but usually the speed as well to confirm that you weren't doing anything wrong.

        • Ah, okay gotcha. Thanks mate

    • +1

Lawyer:so you have all the footage of the crash on the camera, but no GPS location? your honor, how can we really tell this is what happened on blah blah st

      • +2

Simply by distance travelled from the footage in xx:xx time = speed.

  • +1

Great cam. Get yourself a couple of fuse taps and a 3 wire parking kit as well.

  • +3

This looks like it would be quite good for Ford Ranger's as they have a USB power socket behind the rear view mirror.

    • +17

Wow, wonder if that was put there exclusively for dashcams, great thinking by their engineers/designers

      • +5

That's what the port was designed for

        • +7

That's actually a pretty smart idea. Why didn't other car manufacturers think of that. It's 2022 ffs

        • +1

I have been plugging my USB drive into it and the dashcam into the cigarette socket.

    • +6

      Ford living in 3022

      • Is it USB Type-X 3.71 Superuberspeed?

        • +1

Everything is USB Type-X 3.71 Superuberspeed, it's all about the optional features of USB Type-X 3.71 Superuberspeed that the port might have.

      • Meanwhile my 2021 SR5 SINGLE USB port barely charges the phone as fast as it’s discharging while using wired CarPlay smh

        • Unless the amperage of the port is low, it might be your cable?

    • +3

If they drive a Ranger than they'll just be filming self-incriminating evidence

    • Is that port always powered?

    • Pretty much all the recent Haval (previously known as GWM) models had it as well.

  • Anyone else have issues where on startup the camera keeps going off until memory card is reformatted?

    • +1

Try a new card. Mine (other brand) did this until I swapped the card out for a higher quality one. Been fine since.

      • +1

yep another member just pm'ed me and confirmed he has same issue with samsung card (im using samsung !) haha

        • +1

I'm using Samsung 64gb card without any issues. can't recall specific model on top of my head but should be evo plus or so.

  • +3

    Its the non GPS version.

  • +3

I find the screen on these is helpful to see where I'm driving.

    • +3

I know it's a meant to be a joke but just for those who haven't used this cam, it's actually off most of the time. Only provided to navigate settings.

      • Is there a way to turn on the display always?

        • +1

Yes users can control the time out interval or disable it through screen saver settings via menu. But typically the recommended location for dashcam installation is behind the rear view mirror such that it's not obstructing view of the driver.

      • maybe he's using it for night vision driving without headlights… stealth driving

  • Spend another $20-$30 and get GPS version!

  • +3

Noob here ..Why do you need GPS on this device?

    • Accurately determines your location I guess?

    • +2

      can show speed on cam

      • Thank you :-) I too was wondering why it matters.

      • +8

Is that a positive or negative?

Say I'm involved in a not at fault accident, but doing 62 in a 60. What happens?

        • Learn After Effects

        • Learnt from my cop friend that you’re allowed speed + 10% because of discrepancy, they book you if you’re +1km over that figure.

    • +2

As well as giving location, it also sets the clock on your camera.

Just remember to change the time zone when entering/leaving DST.

      • This is probably the biggest reason to get GPS. All of my older dash cams were hopeless at keeping an accurate clock. Often resetting without warning to midnight 1st Jan many years ago.

If you’re concerned about speed overlay incriminating you; the overlay can be turned off (prior to recording).

        • If you’re concerned about speed overlay incriminating you;

Pretty sure it can't be used for this, by the Police anyway. Insurance companies may try it on though …

  • +1

There is a new experimental firmware for this called the 2.6T which gives additional functions such as speed sign readout.

  • +2

Since the GPS module is in the mounting base - Wonder if you had the older A119 with the GPS mount - that this one would just slide onto that and work.

*Edit: Nevermind, it seems they are NOT compatible.

  • Do it have parking mode? The ebay ad says at one spot "Buffered Parking mode" but in another spot says "Parking mode supported". what do these mean ?

    • Only if you have the hardwired kit. Deal here will not not include that.

  • +2

Anyone else see the price as $919?

    • Yes

    • Yes

    • Based on the seller's other listings, they set price to $939, and change the photo to "SOLD OUT"
I assume this one has sold out as well :(

  • Looks good, although am looking for a front and rear dashcam package with reverse for a 2010 model(without reverse parking), any suggestions?

  • +1

Another seller has it for $119 with ebay SPSAVE discount. That includes GPS as well it says.

    • The coupon does not work for me?

      • You might have to have ebay Plus I believe.

    • now pricejacked, $129 w coupon

  • The price is showing AU $919.00. What is going on?

    • +1

      Most likely sold out

  • Don't forget the GPS data could also be used against you especially your speed leading up to your crash.

I've got two of these dash cams and didn't install the GPS module on either.

  • Got mine for $119 with the GPS model from Amazon last year. One of the best dashcams I’ve ever used and installs were easy enough as long as you have 30-45’ to spare.

  • Price back up to $919. Damn missed out on 88% savings
