Can also price match at Officeworks to get 24.5% off on Wednesday for the Ultimate Eats Gift Card $50 card.

    • Interesting. Will try!

    • Thanks. Never really thought about Officeworks doing these gift crds.

    • Anyone successfully price matched gift cards at Officeworks in the past?

      • +1

Yes I did it easy as no questions asked

    • +6

I’ll attach a few thoughts here for anyone interested in going down this route:

You can ask Officeworks staff in-store or over-the-phone to beat Woolworths' price.

      • For in-store, you'll need to show the staff member a physical or digital copy of the weekly catalogue.

      • For over-the-phone, please tell the staff member to refer to the specific page of the current catalogue (unless they're already aware of this deal); you will be given the option to collect the gift cards from an Officeworks store, or have them mailed to you (and you may be charged postage fees, depending on your location).

Some staff will tell you that the PBG cannot be applied to purchases of gift cards. This is false, as the PBG page does not list gift cards as an excluded item. However, you may run into staff who (allegedly) will come up with any excuse to deny a price beat. You have been warned.

Please note you can only ask Officeworks to price beat Woolworths if Officeworks does not drop their prices for Ultimate Eats gift cards to match (or even beat) Woolworths' discount. This has not happened for nearly three years now, but it is always a possibility.

      • This has not happened for nearly three years now,

Damn, you are playing this game alone for 3 years ?

      • Thanks WM, always appreciate your detailed responses and explanations! Do you work in the industry, or must really have a keen interest in these subjects?

        • +8

I don’t work in the industry (surprise surprise).

I’ve gained a lot of knowledge around gift cards and how they work over the years through OzBargain, as well as trial and error myself; because of this, I like to give back to the community that taught me a lot (and saved me many $100s in the process), which means you’ll see me crop up so often on these kind of deals!

One of the earliest gift card tricks I learned from OzBargain was to go to Officeworks and get them to pricebeat whichever store was selling App Store & iTunes gift cards at a discount. The earliest example I remember was this deal from Myer.

      • Hey Wookie,
Do you know if there's a qty limit for gift card price match at OW?

        • It is limited to "reasonable quantities", and that is really up to the Officeworks staff serving you.

      • +1

I tried calling Officeworks and referred to the catalogue, person said they can only pricematch if they can find the item on Woolies website (wasn't available). Ah well I called just for fun no biggies.

        • +2

It’s in their catalog online. If you have any troubles just take a hard copy into the OW store. No issues at all for me at my local store.

          • @Coops1: One of the potential sticking points is that you have to prove that the item is in-stock at the competitor (in this case, Woolworths). If OW don’t bother reading the terms of the Woolworths offer (where it says it is only available in-store) and they insist that you must be able to verify stock levels of gift cards in a Woolworths store via the Woolworths website (which is not true for gift cards), then you are out of luck.

As I always say, I am convinced some OW staff are using any possible excuse to deny a price beat on gift cards…

    • Do you mind to clarify ? You mean you could get 24.5% discount at officeworks instead of 20% at woolies ?

      • Yes, that’s what the commenter is saying.

    • Anyone tried purchasing gift cards at Officeworks with Coles Myer gift cards?

    • How do you get 24.5% btw? Not 24%?

      • Pity the poor bugger who demanded 24.5% off at OW today…….your right it’s 24% by my calculations as well. 50-10-2=$38

  • Instructions unclear… bought a Bluetooth speaker.

  • -2

Can we use wish cards to purchase these gift cards?

  • +4

I would like to hear how you organise gift cards so that they don't end up unused and expired. I often forgot and they ended up expired especially when there is only small balance in them, which is more or less the same value as the discount :-/

    • I carry all my gift cards that I use out in my wallet. Its a bulky wallet but worth it. I am old fashion.

    • +3

That’s how they make profit of that. Don’t worry, you are not the only one, so I never buy theses food gift card.

    • +5

I regularly go through all my gift cards to refresh my memory — and then I’ll update my short-term ToDo list. Also, I haven’t personally done this, but it would probably be good to put them in your calendar which sends notification emails xx weeks before they expire.

    • +1

For Deliveroo it can be redeemed as account credit so no annoying leftover balance. That’s the only use case that makes it worth my while.

    • +1

I have the used ones in my bag. I quickly check balance online before going into the restaurant. Never waste a cent

      • +3

I always take a photo of my gift cards, ticked the 'heart' shape in photo gallery so that gift cards stays in 'favourite folder'. You can choose to keep or throw the physical gift card since most giftcards allow online purchase now

After each use I will edit the photo (doodle) and record the balance

Once finished using I will delete the gift card from photo album.

        • Nice tips. Thanks.

    • -2

How on earth can the cards expire before you use them? Doing it wrong if the cards aren’t used up either immediately or within a month or 2.

    • Excel …

  • How do you spend all the gift cards amount? Apparently you can't split payment when purchase online? Do you need to find in store one and ask them to split bill?

    • +5

Nando's supports split payment in store. That's how I use the remaining balances on my Ultimate Eats cards.

      • I second that. So does ribs n burgers. I paid with leftover balance on one card and rest on a new gift card.

      • No they don't. I hv been to 3 different Nando's and you cannot split payments at nando's. For eg. You buy 2 chicken with 2 sides which is 50.95 andos and if you say you want to pay 50 by 1 card, the operator starts checking how to split payments and I had to pay the whole amount by credit card as can' t be bothered standing in a queue & get embarrassed.

        • This is my exact same experience! I buy the same meal as you and each time I stand in line, while people are behind me, attempting to swipe the damn card multiple times and add pin and the cashier has no idea how to split the payment etc and then I get super embarrassed and just pay by credit card! Previously this was never an issue they would swipe gift card, then I would see $1 amount on the machine and pay using debit card, no issues. I don’t know what’s changed!

    • Grilld guys let me pay residue gift card amounts and pay the rest on another card

    • I've regularly done split payments at Sushi Hub & Grill'd

      • My local Sushi Hub said they can't do split payments. Could just be the person who was working there didn't know how though.

        • Yes, Sushi Hub staff, they didn't know how to do split payment, save it for Nandos, Grill, Zambrero

          • @fishandchips: It is up to location/staff. I did split pay a few months ago at one location. I wont buy these cards any more, too much headache to redeem them. Those participating stores inflate price by 20%+ anyway.

    • May not be possible for menulog?

      • +1

Given menulog is purely online, no you won't be able to split payment.

  • I couldn't figure out how to redeem for menulog last time with the whole virtual wallet thing. Ended up redeeming for deliveroo which had fewer options but was pretty painless.

Gourmet traveller gift cards also good for some more expensive restaurants although they may not be stocked in high enough demonstrations at woolies.

    • +1

It took a while to figure out as well, apparently you just enter virtual card like normal credit/debit card, the expired date is the same which is 12/29

      • Thanks

I gave up in frustration and paid full price like a pleb

      • So you reckon have to pay whole amount on available balance and can't do over couple of cards?

    • Gourmet traveller probably useful for some with Valentine's Day coming up.

  • Has anyone been able to use the eats gift card at Nandos? I have tried so many times, its sound simple, swipe card, add pin, click ok - then error message appears Transaction not allowed (or authorised)
Speak to CS at gift card place, no help at all.
Is it the person at the counter selecting the wrong option, is it because the value is lower/higher then $50 etc?
I have 5 of these gift cards and only bought them to use at nandos so pretty annoying to deal with!

    • Did you select savings?

    • Use them at nandos all the time

    • I had the same at nandos when I tried.

    • +2

Make sure you select CREDIT on the terminals, not savings, as these are their new Visa cards.

      • +4

Be aware the commenter has not specified whether or not they were trying to use the older EFTPOS version or the newer Visa version of the Ultimate Eats gift cards… I mention this, because I noticed at least one Woolworths supermarket on the weekend still selling older EFTPOS version of the Ultimate gift cards.

        • If it is the EFTPOS version, it’s Savings.

        • If it is the Visa version, it’s Credit.

        • It does not mention anywhere on the card (back and front) or the cardboard cover that the card comes in that it’s Visa. But on the back it has these instructions:
Swipe card > select credit > enter pin
I assume if it’s saying use credit these may be the visa ones, just strange I don’t see visa mentioned anywhere at all

          • +4

@Iwantthebestprice: If it says “select Credit” on the back, that’s definitely the Visa version. I’ve previously discussed other ways you can tell you have the Visa version, as opposed to the EFTPOS version. I’m suspect Heritage Bank does not have the licence to use the Visa logo on the gift card, which may explain why it’s missing on the card and card packaging.

            Some questions to consider:

            • Does the gift card have sufficient balance for the amount you want to spend using the gift card?

            • Are you entering the correct PIN?

            • Are you selecting Credit on the EFTPOS terminal?

            • Have you tried adding the gift card to a mobile wallet and then using the virtual card? (Hint: if you go down the route, the expiry date you use to add the card to the mobile wallet is 12/29.)

            • Is the Nando’s location you’re at correctly configured to accept Ultimate Eats gift cards? This question may seem rather random, but the reason I bring it up is that there has been previous cases at other participating retailers where their POS systems were upgraded or reconfigured, but Blackhawk Network (the gift card issuer) was not informed of this, so it did not recognise the upgraded/reconfigured POS system as being from a participating retailer. Keep in mind that one of the commenters was having trouble with the older EFTPOS version, so it can happen with the older Ultimate Eats gift cards too.

            • Is Nando’s attempting to apply an authorisation charge higher than the actual purchase amount? I mention this, because I have used (different) Visa gift cards at a couple of restaurants in the past and have noticed that the authorisation charge was 15%-20% higher than the amount eventually debited from my card. I would be surprised if this was happening at Nando’s, but it is a possibility.

            • +3

              @WookieMonster: Wow that’s insanely detailed I’d upvote 10 times if I could.

    • Are you trying to put through a charge that's higher than the remaining balance on your card?

      • Yes, the meal is $51.95, and the card are $50 in value. But I’ve always done this and just made split payment, all on gift card then whatever is left cash/credit.
Maybe because the cards have changed to visa I can no longer do this?

    • Yeah same here, check my comment on top same issue.

  • -5

How does the Woolworths card work, can I pay $85 for a $100 gift card to buy $100 worth of groceries at Woolworths?

    • You can’t buy Gift Cards with Gift Cards at Woolworths.

    • Woolworths cards are not discounted, only the cards on title are discounted, which have their own specific use places.

  • +2

  • After buying from office works can we got to this link and exchange it with JB hifi Gift cards? Has anyone tried it?

    https://exchangeyourcard.com.au/

    • No.

Officeworks only sells three types of Ultimate gift cards:

      • Ultimate Thanks
      • Ultimate Beauty & Spa
      • Ultimate Eats

If you check the Ultimate gift cards website, none of these types of Ultimate gift cards have JB Hi-Fi as a participating retailer. (You can go to each gift card page and see which participating retailers allow you to exchange an Ultimate gift card for their own gift card.)

When I visited the gift card exchange portal around Christmas last year to see exchange options for the Ultimate Thanks gift card, JB Hi-Fi was definitely not an option.

I don’t think JB Hi-Fi is even participating in the gift card exchange portal at the moment; I just checked the Ultimate Home gift card, and it looks like you can only use the gift card at JB Hi-Fi online or in-store.

      • What about another retailer like catch? Would these work?

  • With this giftcard, do the listed vendors accept the card in ALL locations? Or participating locations only? Eg. Chatime, will all chatime outlets accept it?

    • +1

With the previous Eats Card Frankston Grill'd didn't work for me once so I didn't go back there but haven't had any problems at any other places including other Grill'd restaurants

    • +2

It's supposed to be accepted at all locations.

However, there have been instances where a location's EFTPOS terminals was not correctly configured, and it has required Blackhawk Network or Heritage Bank (the card issuers) to step in and sort it out.

  • cant see this in the catalogue for this week, anyone had any luck with office works beating it? If so how?

    • no luck can't see them

    • +1

It on page 28 of the NSW Online Catalogue.

      • thank you, i was blind

  • just called 1300 OFFICE and was told the price beat doesn't apply to gift cards as they are classed as a service.

    • That sounds BS- how is gift card a service?!?

    • That is an absolute load of %$!@, because even if gift cards are services (which is an interesting way to describe it), services are not excluded under the PBG.

If the employee over the phone bothered to look at the Officeworks PBG webpage, they would have seen the following:

What items does the 5% reduction apply to?

Our guarantee applies to all identical products and services that are:

      • Stocked at Officeworks

      • In stock at our competitor; and

      • Not excluded from the PBG (see below).

I swear some Officeworks staff have been asked to come up with any excuse under the sun to avoid price beating gift cards, and it's reaching the point where Officeworks' PBG is borderline misleading advertising.

      • +1

Just managed to order click & collect with officeworks - $38 per card. The staff initially said no because the deal is not available online, so I asked if C&C is possible. She put me on hold to check and came back with a yes.

      • +1

had no problem in store at least.

        • I've never had problems in-store in the past, but I guess I've been lucky!

  • Has anyone tried to paid with this prepaid card : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/681528

I guess it should work. I'm planning to buy 7 from office works. So total discount will be around 30% :)

    • Discount on the Vanilla GC aren't available in Melbourne unfortunately.

  • +1

Just purchased 5 ultimate eats gift cards from officeworks. No issues with price beat as the girl at the register said if we have an item in stock and a competitor is selling for a cheaper price OW will beat the price. Works out $38 each.

There is limit of 5 cards.

    • Same, managed to price beat at OW today. Staff definitely check the WW deal then proceeded with the price beat. Only picked up 1 as still have some from previous deals.

  • +1

I got it price beat in store at OW :) However I can't seem to redeem for deliveroo, none of the codes worked on the voucher redemption page. Maybe I have to use it as a credit card, will try next week

    • +2

Did you use 12/29 as the gift card expiry date? If not, try that and see if that works.

      • I have the same problem. Did anyone manage to succesfully use these cards with deliveroo?

        • +2

          Yes:

However, you’re not the only person having difficulties in recent times when trying to redeem this gift card at Deliveroo. Maybe Deliveroo did an update to their payment processing process and forgot to tell the gift card issuers, and therefore the gift card issuers don’t recognise payment requests coming in from Deliveroo?

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks so much. I exchanged the gift card to deliveroo cards and it worked!
            Greatly appreciate your help :)

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Oh I didn't see the exchange portal. I was trying to do it directly in the deliveroo app. That worked for me thanks :)

            • @y0ujin: No worries!

The UE gift card is supposed to work if you use it directly on the Deliveroo app, but it looks like there is a bug (somewhere) stopping it from working correcting. I don’t buy UE gift cards myself, so it’ll be up to someone else to chase this up and get this fixed…

  • I've purchased some Swap Food Delivery gift cards for Youfoodz and Easi. 15% discount is nice. Haven't seen these giftcards at more than 15% off.
Anyone who uses Easi know where to find your own referral code? I tried Googling it and just can't find the answer anywhere…

    • I found it under profile>refer a friend. Looks like they've changed it to have a code instead of just sharing a specific link.
