    Ah here we go again!
Hopefuly the vanilla are not the ones that got hacked, right?

    • +8

Going to be. Hackers are working on it now.

      • +1

        hahaha

      • +6

We are currently collaborating with our freinds at the tikomasali and buddurchikum "scam call" centre's in india to enable our customers to pay tax debt using vanilla visa cards. Thank you for your patience.

        • +6

Thank god. Because i missed the last itunes giftcard sale and still gotta pay my tax debts

          • +1

@Junnyjun: The call centre also does HECS debts 🤣🤣🤣

Please quote secret word "easternculture" for 1% discount

I used 20 about 3 months ago that I had bought at the start of last year with no problems.

      • +4

Savas! Good to see you around Savas is still savaS backwards!

        • +1

Hahaha! Awesome to see you! You brought back some memories from when I first joined lol.

    • +2

I was given one recently and the only way to use it was to register through their web page which doesn't have a valid security certificate - not a great start. No warnings last time I checked the balance, but I'm not sure if they fixed it or I saved the exception.

  • +2

I tried this card, you can use it to do online shopping, be careful.

    • +8

      can't or can?

      • +1

Sorry I mean can't use online.

        • +1

Not sure why people neg, product review comments also confirm you can’t use online until you jump through hoops

        • +2

What iss the reason behind??? Why can’t we use online as it has cvv number???

          • @R n b: Honestly who knows… my guess is he wants less people to buy them. I had no problems with my 5 cards.

    • +2

You mean, to stay away from online shopping, to spend less, right?

  • +2

Can they be used to do BPAY payment via Sniip?

    • I think it should work.

    • +1

Yes but Sniip charges a fee of 0.5% if you use a prepaid card

      • +1

I guess the thinking is you buy prepaid cards with credit card an then pay ATO tax bill saving 1% in fees and collecting points. It might work.

        • can we pay tax bill in smaller amounts of a whole bill, let’s say $250 each via Sniip in this case?

          • @webtherapist: Sniip will verify ID if you use a prepaid card.

            • @Neoika: We need to upload license for every transaction?

      • Can't we pay directly on ATO ? 0.4% fees on visa debit.

        • Hi I'm also interested to pay ato debt, does any one know?

          • @jes: Didn't work on ATO website, i was able to successfully split pay at Aus Post.

            • @SydOzber: how do you split pay and are there any fees? i just get the mygov things to pay, is using BPAY okay at australia post?

              • @jes: ask the staff to split payment in multiples of $250 and swipe each card.

                • @SydOzber: using post bpay?

                  • @jes: I don't know what you mean by post bpay. I carried the letter from ATO which has a barcode on it and the staff just scanned it.

Barely 5% discount, do people really bother?

I've had family give me pre-paid cards as gifts and I always think, why didn't you just give me $100 cash and save yourself the fee? Literally makes no sense to me lol

    • +5

Maybe that's why they do discounts regularly?

    • +1

Yep. I'd grab some if they were in good supply at Coles.

    • I use them to pay for my University accommodation.

    • It's easier to re-gift a gift-card,
      than to re-gift ca$h ;-)

    • Giving cash directly looks only very little amount and withou any sincerity.
With gift card, it is generous and polite

  • +10

Here we go again, people hiding these in the freezer

    • I hide mine under the mushrooms

      • +4

Hide them behind the tampons and you will be bloody rich

    • +52

Wouldn't recommend.. Last time I tried this it said that the funds had been frozen

    • +6

I hide them in the drinks aisle… prefer my assets liquid

    • I put mine in my tin box next to the magic money tree…..

  • +16

Higher activation fee for higher face value cards. Such a rort. Like the activation effort changes.

    • I can't imagine anyone I know buying these cards.
Paying a fee to access cash you've put on the card for what reason exactly?
If you want to give cash as a gift, transfer it into your friends account instantly and fee free.
As for this offer, to save a few percent?
What is your time worth. I'll pass.

      • All these gift cards were sold out at all shops around Christmas time, so clearly someone is buying them.

        • Oh I'm sure people buy them, I just don't understand it personally..
I can't see why I'd ever want or need one in any circumstance.
          Each to their own :)

    Some tips for people:

    • These gift cards have no PIN associated with them. If you are going to use this gift card in person, you must be able to sign to “verify” the transaction. If you are asked to enter a PIN at an EFTPOS terminal, press the Enter key without entering anything, or press the Signature option on the screen (if you are using a Westpac-issued EFTPOS terminal). You usually do not need to sign for lower-valued transactions. If you are required to provide a PIN to complete an in-person transaction, you will not be able to use this gift card.

    • These gift cards can be “hacked”, because any Visa/Mastercard/AMEX/etc card can be “hacked”, and prepaid gift cards are quite susceptible to being “hacked”. However, if someone manages to redeem part or all of the balance of your gift card, you can dispute transactions with the issuer (Heritage Bank).

    • You can check the balance of a Vanilla Visa gift card here.

    • re pin, are you saying that this is mostly an online-only card?

being able to dispute transactions is good, unlike those dodgy coles gift mastercards

      • +4

        Not really.

You can swipe (and if required, sign) to authorise a transaction.

        • A lot of merchants in-person will still let you sign to authorise a transaction in-person, because that is still a popular way of authorising a transaction in other parts of the world (e.g. USA).

        • From experience, if you’re at Coles or Woolworths (for example), you do not need to sign to authorise a transaction if you’re redeeming ~$40 or less from one of these gift cards, and for higher value purchases, you can sign to “verify” the transaction.

I was actually about to make an edit to my comment above to say that a lot of online merchants will not accept this gift card, as it is missing a lot of the security features you find in debit/credit cards (e.g. 3D Secure).

        • you can sign to “verify” the transaction.

Isn't this just a formality? I can just scribble whatever on the merchant receipt and on the card.

Basically, what you are saying is that this type of card has almost zero security - no PIN, no 3DS, and if you get hacked no possibility of charge back either.

Is there EFTPOS function (savings account rather than using credit) to avoid surcharges when shopping at places like ALDI?

          • +2

@DoctorCalculon: No EFTPOS function. You can dispute transactions online with this card.

          • +2

            @DoctorCalculon:

Isn't this just a formality? I can just scribble whatever on the merchant receipt and on the card.

Yep, there's nothing from stopping you from having a cross or a squiggly line as a signature. It will be accepted at the staff member's discretion, and I think a lot of staff will not care too much about it (or would not know what to do with it).

this type of card has almost zero security - no PIN

I doubt this gift card having a PIN would provide much additional security tbh.

A PIN is only used for in-person transactions (where requested by the merchant), and other gift cards (e.g. Coles Gift Mastercard, the newer OnlyONE Visa green gift cards) have them printed on the back of the card anyway. As long as anyone has access to a physical prepaid gift card, they can redeem the funds.

            • @WookieMonster:

the newer OnlyONE Visa green gift cards

Beware, there's almost identical OnlyOne Visa green gift cards that do not have PIN! Cards that were issued 06/21 have it and 07/21 don't but the look almost identical except that 06/21 says you PIN is located on a card and 07/21 say you don't need a PIN for purchases.

Also it seems I can't use OnlyOne cards to buy another OnlyOne card in Woolies, does anyone know if I can buy Coles MC or any other prepaid cards with OnlyOne Visa?

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: That's bizarre. I thought all OnlyONE Visa gift cards in the green packaging had PINs.

To be fair, I have only seen OnlyONE Visa gift cards in the green packaging with a later expiry date than the ones you have mentioned, which is why I assumed all the Visa gift cards in the green packaging had PINs.

Also it seems I can't use OnlyOne cards to buy another OnlyOne card in Woolies, does anyone know if I can buy Coles MC or any other prepaid cards with OnlyOne Visa?

Yep. I also found recently that the same restriction exists at BIG W.

It should be fine at Coles to use an OnlyONE Visa gift card to purchase Coles Gift Mastercards or Vanilla Visa gift cards or other gift cards, because:

                • Coles does not sell them themselves, and
                • As far as I know, Coles does not currently block cards based on specific bank identification numbers (BINs).
                • +1

@WookieMonster: It's not expire date, it's issuing date, it's printed in the bottom right corner at the back of the card.

                  • +1

@[Deactivated]: Oops, you did say that. I'm not exactly sober at the moment, so I should probably slow down and try harder to comprehend comments!

I bought an OnlyONE Visa gift card that has 06/21 printed on the back of the packaging, and it definitely has a PIN, so that further confirms your observations.

                    • +1

@WookieMonster: This is how card issued 07/21 looks like, it's same green at the front. Found them at Officeworks. Note it says no pin required and there's indeed no pin on them.

                      • +1

@[Deactivated]: Interesting… I note the barcode number in the top right-hand corner is different to the variable load gift card I bought recently (0 076750 459016), so the two gift cards are definitely different products.

I don't know why Indue would want to release a line of prepaid gift cards with PINs and a line of prepaid gift cards with no PINs…

      • I have used the Coles mastercard gift cards many times in last six months and had no problems

    • +1

They must have chosen these for the special this time as no PIN would make inception hard by requiring staff intervention.

      • +1

        Good point!

If a staff member does the verification step correctly, they would have to look at the signature panel on the back of the gift card and compare it with the signature you provide at the checkout, and if they see the card is a Vanilla Visa gift card, you’ll be busted.

I think another reason is that Coles and Indue got fed up with the number of customer complaints related to Coles Gift Mastercards due to slow activation times and gift cards being “hacked”. It doesn’t help Coles that their own logo is on the Coles Gift Mastercard…

    • -1

So.. Is it still hacked just by guessing the 6 random numbers? If so, too easy, I'll pass

      • +2

I'm not entirely sure. I have only previously purchased and used 1x $50 Vanilla Visa gift card, so I cannot tell you how many numbers a "hacker" would have to guess in order to attempt to redeem funds on the card.

I can tell you with some certainty on Wednesday morning though!

    • Can you use this to buy gift card from Woolworths?

Also can you buy discount gift card from Suncorp or Macquarie bank?

      • +1

Can you use this to buy gift card from Woolworths?

        I’m not entirely sure.

You should be able to use it to purchase Ultimate gift cards, Apple gift cards, TCN gift cards, etc.

However, I am doubtful you can use it to purchase other cash-equivalent gift cards (e.g. Westfield EFTPOS gift card, OnlyONE Visa prepaid gift card, The Perfect EFTPOS gift card), because Woolworths and BIG W usually block you from using prepaid EFTPOS/Visa/Mastercard gift cards to purchase other prepaid EFTPOS/Visa/Mastercard gift cards.

Also can you buy discount gift card from Suncorp or Macquarie bank?

        No.

        • Suncorp Benefits only allows you to use debit or credit Visa or Mastercards. They block all prepaid cards (even prepaid cards with 3D Secure).

        • Macquarie Bank only allows you to purchase gift cards by using the balance in your transaction or savings accounts (or by redeeming credit card points on your Macquarie credit card).

        • +1

Thanks, so how & where can we buy Woolworths 3% discount gift card using this gift card online?

          • +1

@SydBoy: As far as I am aware, the only discounted gift card portal that will allow you to use prepaid gift cards to purchase Woolworths Group gift cards is any portal operated by Lifestyle Rewards (e.g. HCF Thank You).

Every other portal I have tried requires your card to support 3D Secure.

            • +1

@WookieMonster: Bummer 👎 I was hoping to buy gift card for yearly grocery purchase from Woolworths but if I can't use this to buy Woolworths then it's of no use (I don't have HCF).

              Thanks a lot.

            • +1

@WookieMonster: I have been able to buy gift cards from my union shopper gift card provider successfully. They use ambassador card as the provider.

  • +2

The cards will be probably gone by the time u get there.

  • +8

too much effect for little saving
plus the risk of getting hacked

  • +2

    Use immediately.

  • Can you use Visa Giftcard to buy Shopback Giftcard?

    • Coles master gc works. Visa may also work.

  • Last time I got these cards I tried to purchase gift cards on shopback with them (all though they were the prepaid MC not Visa). The first 2 gift cards went through without a hitch, then the 3rd and 4th both come back with a shopback error, it seemed shopback would only allow $500 of gift cards to be purchased with prepaid credit cards in a session, annoyingly even though the transaction was rejected it put the $250 as a pending transaction for close to 2 weeks before finally returning the money to the card.
Had a similar issue with pre-paid fuel at a self service servo, typed in to fill up to $100, fill for $60 but it kept the $100 as pending for close to 2 weeks before charging the $60 and returning the $40. This takes no where near as long with a normal credit card, normally the money returned the next day.

  • Anyone know if you can add funds from these cards into Revolut? If yes, what’s the fees like?

    • Haven't tried it with the Vanilla cards but Only1 and Coles MC can't be done. Revolut would have their MCC as a financial institution and these cards will block transactions to those merchants to prevent money laundering.

    • And Revolut will quickly block your account.

    • +1

No, Revolut wants 3DSecure which is not available for these cards. Same with Wise.

      • TransferWise let me cash out the coles mastercards last year however when the deal came back around it didn’t work and said speak to your bank.

        • They show 3DS required message now.

          • @[Deactivated]: Also could you please how this is would be money laundering? I’m pretty confused on the concept

        • Card issuer blocks payment to money transfer services(Wise) as per t&c.

  • +1

yea get ready to use them ASAP.

I just bought amazon gift cards straight away off amazon

  • +2

Nice. On my way to coles to hide $10k in freezer 😂

    • +5

      You have 10k 🤔🤔

Tell me which coles and what car your driving so a freindly bikey can meet you there 😈

      • I’m very friendly if you hand me all your gift cards preferably with their receipts 😈☠️

        • Hello fellow freindly neighbourhood bikey

          • @easternculture: Hello eastern fella, let me know if you know someone who has more gift cards than they need! 😉

  • +3

Great for those who want to meet minimum CC spend bonus. (Not me unfortunately I wasted my hard Credit enquiry due to rejection from ammex, 3 months wait now)

    • Why wait 3 months? Just apply for another one straight away… ANZ are quite easy to get

  • Hmmm can you use it for some special "research websites" on the Web? Of the pleasurable variety?

    • People actually pay to research pleasure web sites?

      • Only those who can't research how to get content for free.
