      All their 3tb were gone when I looked locally, and I would prefer 3tb over 2tb as i have limited sata ports. Please compare similar drives.

    Had one of these die on me with only 3 months use. Although I did leave it running 24/7 to be fair….
    But still, that can't be right. I don't recommend Hitachi HDDs if you are using it as a standalone unit for backups with no RAID fallback.

      Yep I also had an internal 3TB Hitachi die on me early. Hitachi aren't at all helpful for warranty, nor do they respond to support enquiries in a timely manner (they took nearly 3 weeks to get back to me via email).

      It's their rubbish drive that died within the first few months, which should have been covered under an international warranty (they are all manufactured in the same place). Unfortunately I purchased from the bhphotovideo for around $125 delivered a while back, but they (bhphotovideo) want me to send directly to Hitachi USA for replacement which sucks big time.

      Just be wary with these drives, I had read an article that said data centres were using them with a really small failure rate. I'll be switching back to WD in the future.

    I need 4 for my microserver, I do not have access to pickup from greenboxit and shipping from here is quick and cheap. Just need to find hitachi policy on the drive inside for warranty.

    Thanks for the staticice links guys, sorry I was not clear that I've looked there and greenboxit wasn't an option.

    Don't forget to check Amazon's prices for 3Tb external hard drives. Current price for Hitachi delivered to OZ is $US161.95 if you can wait for stock to arrive. Best bet there at the moment is the Seagate GoFlex for $AUD163.93 delivered for one, cheaper shipping each if you want more. The current Costco bargain is also good.
