  • display brightness and battery size?

    nvm
    300nits and 56.5Wh

great deal but i looking for a laptop with a much brighter display and slightly larger battery.

    • +2

You can get the specs from the Lenovo deal I posted earlier in the year.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/667096

      300nits
      56.5wH

Only if you look at the Yoga Pro with the OLED screen and 60+wH battery if you want something brighter and bigger battery.

      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/yoga/yoga-slim-series/Y…

    • Why do you need a brighter one than this?

      • Outdoor use really. 300 is only borderline useful in the shade.

Or possibly if you wanted HDR for creative work?

        • I can say you'll find very little laptops that will have higher than 300. Most are around the 309 range.

          • @PeeDee: You're mostly looking at the fancier laptops, xps etc.

            • @incipient: I'm guessing you use at your backyard? Most of the people use if indoors

Anyone knows the weight? So annoying that this vital detail is always left out by sellers

    • +3

      From my post above

      Dimensions (W x D x H) 312.2 x 221 x 15.99 mm
      Weight

Integrated graphics model: starting at 1.38 kg
Discrete graphics model: starting at 1.41 kg

    • +18

      Is Google down for you?

    • 1.38kg for this specific model according to Lenovo spec page

This or M1 Macbook Air for uni?

    • +4

If you like the Apple ecosystem enough and the price is suitable, I can't see many reasons not to go Macbook these days.

    • +1

Depends on your needs. If you need access to Windows applications or another operating system such as Linux get this deal. If you are fine with just Apple applications, get the M1.

      • Currently own a powerful Windows desktop at home, so it seems the Macbook is best for a portable option

        • +1

The macbook air's battery life is great. Would recommend it for uni. You would be eligible for the education discount and free airpods as well.

    • +1

      m1

Not the biggest apple fan, but the m1 is such a good processor, great battery life etc for its price.

    • An ipad or a galaxy tab? The pen would be good with one note

Do people still write with their hands?

      • as opposed to speech to text?

        • Like taking notes on a pad vs typing everything on word

  • -2

    M1 for sure

what's wrong with Lenovo? Did you have a bad experience with them or this particular laptop?

      • -4

Lenovo are junk. They have some pretty good specs but longevity and reliability are terrible. Ozbargain loves them because they do offer great value, but if you’re using them for your kids school they won’t last through middle school.

        • I bought a refurbished one from grays online, six year ago now and still going strong.

        • Strongly disagree with both of you. I have an ultra book for 9 years and still running strong despite of many drop on hard surface

  • +2

That Officeworks deal for $999 was a steal, and I gave my laptop to another member.

  • Anyone find any reviews of this laptop?

    • Can vouch for it this is a solid machine, a little dim and colour is a bit iffy but other than that excellent for the price

  • +5

Thanks, OP! Negotiated it down to $1,165. Also, this comes with a touchscreen. The listing says it doesn't, but can confirm it does.

    Edit: Proof

    • If you stack with 15% discounted gift cards, you can make the cost below $1,000. That is very good for a laptop in this spec.

    • Any chance you could post with the store name not blurred out. I'd to price match with a JB hifi in QLD and they said if you have the 'store name' and 'date' they can do it. Cheers

Decent enough deal. For comparison someone put me onto the Dell Outlet as I was looking for a new laptop and managed to snare an XPS 9310 2 in 1 for $1239 including postage. The good thing is that Dell are also offering two years in home warranty instead of one and Windows 11 for no charge so a decent result.

They appear to have a rolling stock of all sorts of laptops so if you aren't in a hurry then worth checking every day or so and you could end up with a decent machine for similar money.

    This is what I got:-
*Intel Core 11th Generation i7-1165G7 Processor (Quad Core, Up to 4.70GHz, 12MB Cache)
    *16GB 4267MHz Dual Channel LPDDR4x Memory
*512GB PCIe NVMe x4 Solid State Drive
    *Windows 11
    *Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650 (2x2) and Bluetooth 5.1
    *13.4 inch FHD+ (1920 x 1200) 16:10 WLED Touch Display
    *Intel Iris XE Graphics
    *45 Watt E5 Type-C AC Adapter
    *4-Cell, 51 WHr Battery
    *US International Backlit Black Keyboard
*Integrated RGB IR HD Camera and Microphone

I dont have a positive experience on Dell's computer (in both desktop and laptop).

Had a Dell G3 and the charging port is not working within the first two weeks and the techinician fixed it onsite.

Purchased a XPS 8940 with poor thermal performance and the CPU fan noise is annoying but you can replace with only specific 3rd party models. Also cannot upgrade the power supply.

It is probably just me but I dont think their product design in budget line is reasonable.

    • +1

The XPS has a good chassis but has an

Inferior CPU and screen vs this deal

      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i7-1165G7-vs-AMD-…

the Intel i7 in the XPS scores 10,000 whilst the AMD Ryzen 5 5600u scores 15,000

I'd take a Dell over a Lenovo based on the few dozen I and colleagues have had. My 2018 with GPU is still going strong after a repaste.

    • On reddit? Might have been me.

  • Any idea if this is cheaper in the JB corporate sites?

    • +1

      Same price from JB commercial.

  • Works out $1234.00 with antiglare non-touch screen and +150 for glare touch in Lenovo EPP store. Too lazy to check Edu store, sorry.

    • +1

And it will be delivered within 5 weeks while it is instock at JB-HiFi.

  • Laptop has amazing build quality. Unfortunately the trackpad has some weird delay, or screen is really slow. Not as as good as Microsoft Surface devices overall. ill stick with my Microsoft surface go for now.

  • would this be any good for engineering? I know alot of people say you need a decent gpu but this just looks good for value, decent portability and battery

  • Any recommendations if you had an extra $200 or so? I'm close to getting this one but not sure I need an extra inch or so of screen. It's really only for a one year IT course, and I have a gaming PC at home. I've done some comparisons and this is definitely in the top couple of spots for the price.

  • +1

Thanks OP. bought from Belconnen, ACT store for $1043.

    • Did you negotiated the price instore and/or stack it with discounted gift cards?

  • And now the price has increased to $1499 ?
