  • has been this price for a long time. great interface, i sold my scarlett 2i2 to get this. the preamp is exceptional.

    • Ah - I didn't realise.

I'm also replacing my Scarlett 2i2 with this.

      • Comparison between this and the presonus studio range?

    • Heard the chassis is pretty flimsy on these.. Much truth to it?

      • yeah, too big and nothing fancy to write home about.

        • I've got an SPL Crimson.. So big doesn't bother me, but it's built like a tank.

Found it at Cash Converters and it had taken a beating. Cleaned it up, works a treat.

I opted for the audient id14 for a little less price. This one has spdif and adat extension but no midi.

    • I just bought the id14mk2 yesterday but from Thomann.de which was $289 + 69 delivery. I should also mention that I had to get a few other things from Thomann for a bulk delivery.

      • Don't you have to pay taxes and import duty?

        • Already included in the price. Also, my total purchase was under $1000.

          • @goregrinder: In my experience Thomann charge gst on top for orders over $1000.

            • @findingbargains: I think that over $1000 is another tax.

Thomann's receipt stated that GST (10%) was already applied to my order (under $1000).

  • for the same price or cheaper you can get a GoXLR Mini which has a midas preamp at 75db gain. Run a SM7B on this this no issues.

    • Agreed, though this unit (given the brand name - SSL) is geared more towards home audio engineers and recording musicians, given the I/O and routing options).

  • Sorry- a noob here: Would appreciate if someone can answer me. Is this for podcasters or YouTubers ?? Recording with this mean that you don’t need to do any processing on your voiceover?? Googled it but not able to see the basics. How would someone explain the use of this to a layman? Cheers

Whatever device is used to record audio, there will always be a need for post-processing

      • Ta @goregrinder :) So, this is a glorified microphone?

        • +1

Not a microphone. It converts an analog microphone signal into digital audio signal on your PC.

          • @clyde82: Thanks @clyde92: Good to know what this is.

its alot better to have another device like a mixer to handle the audio processing of you voice over so your computer doesn't need to do it, its cleaner and frees up resources on you PC to do other things like video.

  • Thanks @kungfuman. So is this a mixer? What is the role of this device? Sorry to bother and beat around the bush! But just curious to know the need of the same :)

    • +1

its more like an interface, than a mixer. Mixers will blend multiple device together and let you do things like EQ etc to make your audio sound better. It really depends on what you want to do Mixers tend to have alot of extras around improving you sound live rather than post processing in editing after.

  • But what does Julian Krause say?
