The 13 Mini 128GB is on sale for $1099.
I would say it’s worth the extra $$$ for the improvements.

I agree and you get to choose ANY colour you want. I love the product red for the 13mini instead of the cherry red 12mini

      • The worst thing about the current design is that cases don’t wrap around the sides anymore. I bought a red 12 mini when it was on sale thinking an official Apple case (black leather one) would hide the colour (front view) but to my frustration I now have this thin but very bright red line in between the bezel and the case. I wish Apple would show this properly on their product images. So yes, don’t go for a discount thinking a case would make the colour irrelevant. I now have 2 years of staring at this hideous red line all for saving $150 or so before I will allow myself another phone. Lesson learnt.

Absolutely. Love my 12 mini but the battery is not good, especially after a year.

      • Yes mine is down to 84% after 14 months. Love the phone size though.
I will get Apple to replace the battery when it drops to 80%, which should be before it is 2yo.

        • Do Apple replace battery under warranty if under 80%?

@Fairmont: They are gagey about the exact figure, although that seems to be around it. I suspect it is a bit more technical than that though, probably ability to discharge properly.
The was a time a few years ago Apple got into trouble when it did an OS upgrade that set up software management of the discharge to prevent degraded batteries from doing undesirable things like catching fire, but didn’t make a song and dance about it. Thing is it also meant the phone slowed down as the ability to discharge was constrained, but the subsequent slow down was noticed, particularly iPhone 6 models with limited RAM, and it seemed, weaker batteries which were showing their age as the majority were about four years old. Easily fixed by a battery replacement, but Apple was accused of manipulating phone performance to encourage upgrades.
Engineers can be so clueless about people.

    Officeworks price beat?

    • I did an OW price beat for previous JB deal. Had to do the ring around as hardly any Melb stores had stock. Hopefully they have restocked so people can price beat this time. Get in quick before OW change their price.

      • Yeh I’m on my way to pick one up now! Cheers

    • Yes I was able to get it for $835

Given the battery life issue with the iphone 12 mini
highly recommended getting the 13 mini if price difference is not that much

  • I’m seriously considering this deal but is the iPhone 12 mini battery such a deal breaker?

I’m on an iPhone 6 and it’s falling apart… I’d rather upgrade once for a while and be done.

    • +1

      such a deal breaker

imho, as a power user, ip 12 mini battery life is woeful. But if you are light user, your milage may varied.

    • +1

The issue with battery is that, even if it happens to be good enough for you, after a year or two, it wouldn't be.

And since this is Apple, it's an arm and a leg to replace the battery.

      • Good point, I take it they don’t replace batteries within the first two years as part of their Australian consumer warranty?

        • Replacing batteries with warranty, maybe. But degraded battery wouldn't be covered by warranty, it's still functional.

          • +1

@Wonderfool: If it degrades to under 80% within 12 months they replace the battery for free.

        • +1

I have had a battery replaced just before two years for free.

      • +1

so your arm or leg is worth just over $100?

        • Will you buy it for 100?

      • +1

Battery replacement is one thing you absolutely cannot criticise apple for lol. They’re the best in the business. You can walk in to any apple store and get a brand new official battery installed for like $70.

I'm on an iPhone 7 and my wife has the 12 mini. The battery life on the 12 mini is way better than the 7. She sits on her phone all day, mostly just calls, doom scrolling and texting, taking photos of the kids, and doesn't have to charge it before bed. She doesn't game on it.

Depends a lot on use I guess, but for non-gaming it seems to last all day no problems, whereas my 7 is done by late afternoon.
The 13 mini has better battery life apparently, but it would make no difference to our usage.

The iPhone 6 battery life is 11hrs vs 15 hours for the 12 mini, vs 17 hours for the 13 mini. So if you are used to the 6, the battery life on the 12 will seem amazing. If you want to keep the phone for 5 years, then maybe the extra 12% or so of battery life of the 13 mini might be worth it for an extra $40 per year.

    • The battery on an 12 mini lasts a lot longer than an iPhone 6 ever did.
It is halfway between an iphone8/SE2 and a full size iPhone 12. All down to how much room there is for a battery.
You can’t change the laws of physics.

  • Quick, get OW to pricebeat before they lower the price to $878.

  • +1

i had 12 mini and now 13 mini.

I can say 13 mini is better with battery life and screen brightness is bit better when compared to 12m.

  • Looks like OWs already matched the price for the purple and white colours
