I've been gaming for 40 years, and this is the most disappointing game I've ever bought.
Avoid.
If you've been gaming for 40 years you should have knowned better not to buy this in the first place.
Whilst that's a valid point, sometimes folks play games for the social aspect. This game's bugs and clear lack of worthwhile (ie quality) updates will sour the taste even more over time.
Lack of updates doesn't bother me because I'm not going back. The game is beyond being able to be salvaged with a few patches and new maps. They need to let it die, learn from it and go back to the drawing board and create a Battlefield game. Maybe go back and do a remake of BC2, BF3 or BF4. Something the can knock out relatively quickly, whilst also helping remind them what it was that made BF good in the first place.
If you've been gaming for 40 years (or even only 20) you'd know that Battlefield has a long, illustrious history of creating some of the best multiplayer FPS games of all time. My friends and I have played hundreds of hours of all of them since Bad Company 2 (well, except Hardline which didn't get much love being barely a year after BF4 which was still being heavily played). Of course we were pumped to get into a new one, especially being 3 years since the last one. We were prepared to ride out a bumpy start which is par for the course for BF (and most online games). But even if it had been absolutely perfectly executed, polished to a mirror shine, it would STILL have been utter dogsh*t.
Leaving aside any bugs and performance issues, the design decisions made are just baffling. Specialists instead of classes is pretty much the end of being able to call it a Battlefield game. Too many players (just because you CAN have 128 players doesn't mean you should), horrible maps that make it basically unplayable for infantry. The scoreboard debacle. It's like the game was designed by somebody who had never played a Battlefield game, but overheard a couple of people talking about it on the train once and just built it based on that.
The saving grace is that the console version of Insurgency: Sandstorm came out about a month before BF2042, and that has been awesome. About 10% of the budget of BF2042, but about a million times more fun (well, a million times zero would still be zero, but you know what I mean). BF2042 lasted about a week, Insurgency has been getting played several nights a week since then.
Preach the truth and still get negged.

Terrible right now. First update is slated for six months away. No single player campaign either.
They need to complete a lot of fixes.
It might come good in a year or so with an opportunity to pick up for less than $20.
A decent single player ala Battlefield 1 would have made this an instant buy for me. Guess my wallet is safe today.

Thanks for posting on OzB but for interested parties this is a pile of garbage game. Do not waste your money when there's no option to refund! This will price drop into the bin.

Played 1 round of this game during the F2P weekend. Wouldn't touch it further even if they paid me.
I will buy it when it gets to this price and will use the Blu-ray case only for another game and put the BF2042 CD in the bin.
Definitely save your money. Also will probably come to EA access (game pass) because it's such a flop.

Do not buy this broken POS of a game..bug fixes and promises are delayed as well as new content and even the season pass all pushed back I wouldn't even touch this for another year

I wonder how many of the negative commentors in this post have actually played this game.
Anyone who didn't give Hell Let Loose the chance it deserved, it is a truly game-changing FPS experience that has sucked me in like 'true' Battlefield games should.
That's one I keep meaning to go back to. Never gave it a real chance because it came out right around the same time as Insurgency and BF2042, and I guess COD would have been around the same time, too. Releasing on PS+ on day 1 was a smart move in terms of getting it into people's hands, but really bad timing on their part doing it right when a bunch of other FPS games were getting released, not sure what they were thinking. 2042 was deleted in a week, but Insurgency has been getting played heavily so haven't really gone back to HLL.
Might give it another go in the next week or two - are you playing on console? Does it still have much of a player base? Cross-play between PS and XBox?
There's cross-play with Xbox, yes. I'm playing on PS5 and it's a blast. Highly recommend tweaking the controller settings. It still has a passionate user base, I'd argue that it's growing. I consistently see people that I recognise and match-making is the fastest I've seen of any multiplayer game in years somehow. Great port! If you're interested, it is critical that you watch this intro guide. Will make the first 10 hours a breeze vs. struggling to understand anything lol

Ive put 100 hours into 2042, and have finally made up my mind, yes its dog wank. Ive just downloaded BF 5 again. Ive heard a bit about hell let loose, so on the next steam sale i'll be giving that a go.
Lots of players in Battlefield V at the moment … so good
Played Battlefield V for a few months when it was a PS+ game. Was actually really fun, I heard that game had some major issues when released as well. It's a shame with BFV that they stopped supporting it and didn't release a lot of the maps and stopped after the Pacific stuff.
I hope they can turn BF20242 around but I won't be buying it at this point.
They pulled the live service to BFV to put extra resources in to making BF 2042 - there was an Eastern European expansion that was datamined and then scrapped
No campaign, no purchase.
I'm playing the king of fighters XV instead of this game later this month , I know it's a fighting game but at least the developers respect their players. the game stays true to its roots while upgrading game elements at the same time.
all they had to do was remaster BF3 or BF4 to 60hz 4k. its like they've tried to reinvent the wheel and come up with a triangle

Since 2 weeks ago, AU Server pretty much dead, even on weekend. Thus, it's unplayable.
