Asrock Radeon RX 6600 Challenger D 8GB Graphics Card $619 ($599 with Afterpay) + Delivery or $0 C&C @ Umart

180
AFTERPAY20

Seems an alright deal if you want a 'cheap' but good 1080p card.

Was cheaper at $569 + shipping at PCCG 4 months ago but price seemed to bounced back a bit. Probably worth to wait for further drops but this ain't too terrible if one need a card now.

Afterpay code avalible for the first 2,000 redemptions (for the whole site, not just this deal)

If you need a NEW graphics card at a "not complete total ripp off price" this is it people

132wTDP is pretty cool… more savings over time in power usage

    • +2

For some reason when I had my RX6600 (Asus dual) loaded at full pelt it was still only drawing 100w. Beast for the wattage.

      • Asus has always used the least power out of all the cards.. They do this so they reduce warranty claims in hotter area's of the world were ambient temperatures get really hot… less power = draw less heat = less failed graphics cards.

This effects performance a little bit

Not a bad price if you're searching for value at the moment and can't afford to wait. My problem is, the last entry-level GPU I purchased was a 1660 Super for $299 and according to the rankings here:

      • AMD Radeon RX 6600 - 49.2%
      • Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super - 37.9%

The relative price of the 6600 should be $330-350 if we were still at pre-pandemic levels. At almost double, it's extremely difficult to justify for the small gain in performance - whereas a 3060 Ti @ triple the price (when on sale), will at least net me double the performance nearly

      • If the GTX1660 Super came out today it would cost $500+…. The RTX3050 is the same thing in performance but costs around $600

        • +1

The 1660 Super is still available today and sells for $599. It actually makes the 3050 seem like a good proposition through that lens.

While we all understand that GPU prices are abnormally high, the situation for many who are looking to upgrade is a really strange one. It just feels like the PC gaming market is becoming permanently out of reach for the budget-minded.

If Apple were smarter, they would be leaping at the opportunity to ramp up the IOS game compatibility for M1 Macs and sweep up many casual and low-end gamers disenfranchised with PC gaming. There's a massive library, along with Apple Arcade that could be used to entice those across.

          • @OSienna: The word Apple is not comparable with budget-minded shopping.

ETH moving to staking and ramping of supply from AMD, Nvidia and intel will be a welcomed fix for the GPU market

AMD is making a refreshed 6nm product out of their RDNA2 chips while still making 7nm chips for the very reason… to boost supply.
New 6nm and 5nm chips will be coming out end of year… my guess is by years end prices will be 100% stable at least at RRPing

have inserted dog into compute box.. no coins coming out

How does this compare to a 3060?

    • +8

      i think its RX6600 < RTX3060 < RX6600XT < RTX3060Ti

    • My question as well. If less capable than rtx 3060, is this worth the saving?

      • +3

If you dont need or mind the lack of RT, DLSS, and nvnec. It's 100% worth it.

        • How about Drivers comparison? Heard terrible stories on AMD ones.

          • +3

@kaikor: AMD driver issues were mainly a thing from years past, nowadays, they are pretty fine, albeit problem could still occur from time to time, but that applies to both sides.

          • +1

@kaikor: No issues at all with my 5600xt had it over a year. There was a bad period there (prior to me getting 5600XT) but they've fixed all of those issues as far as I know… Ive had more games crash on my 3060 than the 5600XT.

Clean driver installs also extremely important. DDU is a must when swapping or adding GPUs.

            • @scud70: Thx all, good to know 3060 crashed more than 5600XT

              • +1

@kaikor: When I say more it's like couple of times in GTA V while I've had none on the 5600XT lol… More of a blip, otherwise I'd say drivers are now on par.

  • Hmm…What's the best 'deal' on a quiet rtx 3060ti card at present?

  • Ordered thanks OP :)

i'd rather buy a 2nd hand gtx 1080 for $600 than pay more for a worse card, but i guess for those of you who would like to have the peace of mind of a warranty this would be appealing

    • +5

The 6600 is superior to the 1080, you would be silly to pay more than ~$520? for a second hand 1080

      • -5

i have heard this site is untrustworthy before, but is it so bad that they are showing the 1080 to be this much better than the 6600 if it is actually worse? wtf men
        https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1080-vs-AMD…

        • yes mate, look up any rx6600 vs 1080 benchmark videos out there. userbenchmark is as fake as it gets

  • +1

Please excuse the thread hijack (and the newby question) - but I'm wondering why the 6600xt is $800 and RTX 3060 is around $1000, and the 6600xt performs better - am I missing something?

    • +3

nvidia cards are typically more expensive down under than their amd counterparts.

      • Ok - good to know. Thanks

        • +3

There is more demand for Nvidia cards due to the general consumer thinking Nvidia is better..

People are buying RTX3050s for $600 when they are 25% slower then this AMD card at the same price.

    • +1

the feature set of software that you get with Nvidia cards is far superior to AMDs

      Automatic game optimization
Record and create automatic gameplay highlights using Nvidia ShadowPlay
Broadcast gameplay live from GeForce Experience to Facebook, Twitch, and YouTube
      Capture and filter screenshots
      Update Nvidia GPU drivers automatically
Stream games to Nvidia Shield devices

i also believe that the performance for streaming on say OBS makes less of an impact to your fps
      superior raytracing performance
DLSS and its iterations are much better than AMDS

Nvidia broadcast which uses the "ray tracing cores" can remove almost all background noise from your microphone feed, it can "hijack" your webcam and create a green screen like affect behind you

    • +1

Basically if you need Nvidia specific feature set then go for a Geforce otherwise Radeon makes more sense value wise.

DLSS is a useful feature than can boost FPS by around 25% at 'quality' level. Not recommended to go below 'balanced' - the loss of visual quality becomes very noticeable.

However in some sense it's a bit silly to tout DLSS as a selling point when Radeons of the same price point can pull similar FPS numbers in most games running native resolution compared to RTXs running with DLSS, while being more power efficient and without the loss of visual quality induced by DLSS.

      • Thanks - Decided to stay with Nvidia and go with with a 3060 from Umart for $849 as it's a present for my sons b'day next week. Will sell his current 1660ti to hopefully recover around half of the upgrade cost.

  • pay just $100 more for the 6600xt

    • Cheapest 6600 XT right now is $749 so it's approximately an 8.5% gain in performance for 19% more money. May not be worth it for some but I would generally agree - if you're already outlaying this much money, it's not too much of a stretch to get the 6600 XT (or just wait for a deal)

      • +1
        • Still 14% more but compelling nevertheless. The 6600 seems to be the sweet spot right now if you want best bang for buck

          • @OSienna: wish i read this comment before i pulled the trigger. thought the 6600xt was the best bang for buck. 🤦

            • +1

@follow: We can't always make purchasing decisions based on "x per $" alone. Like they say, "you can know the price of everything but the value of nothing"

  • +1

Price dropped to $619 ( $599 with Afterpay Coupon ).

      Updated, cheers!

  • I'm looking at a GPU for my golf sim PC that will be connecting to a 1080p 60hz TV…. Will this do the job? Obviously can't go over 60fps so I'm thinking it should be the goods….

    • +1

You bet, it will handle 1080p60 no problems, heck thats what its made for :)

  • Crap… Sold out. Damn!

    • +1

Can you try again? It still shows as avalible on my end

Ahh sorry… Out of stock in the only SA store. $16 postage

        • Ah yeah its always been OOS in the croydon stock since the day I posted this deal.

          • @Brrrrt: yeah bit of a bummer… oh well. would probably cost me $16 to drive down from the hills to get it anyway. Thanks for the post mate!
