2x Sets Bug A Salt 3.0 with Laser Sight for $129.99 + Delivery ($19.99 to WA) @ Bug A Salt

470
COMEFLYWITHME

I have seen these on and off but have never tried it. Had been tempted to buy it but have not got around to it. Till now.

After looking at many reviews, I think the conclusion is:
- If you want to kill flies easily - spray Mortein
- If you want to kill without chemicals, use a fly swatter or a zapper. Though the swatter will leave a gut and blooded dead fly.
- If you want to have fun killing them, then buy this

The deal is to buy two of the newest version guns, add 2 of the laser sights, use the code, then the laser sights are free.
Shipping is $19.99 for me to WA.

From what I can see, this is the cheapest I've seen with the laser sights and 3.0

I almost wish that I didn't know this existed - now i really want one

    • +4

Just get it. They're quite fun.

    • +6

I like these but my missus prefers the electric tennis racquet, less mess to clean up and you can just take it outside and shake them out

    • +1

      We've all been there!

    • +2

Pros not mentioned here, they are actually really good for mozzies.
Cons, you can buy them way cheaper on Aliexpress, also they have lasers

  • +20

A very expensive way to kill flies. I think I'll stick to my sandals this time.

    • +31

I know. But with WA's Fortress, we in the West have already spent money on boats/4wds/houses and still have disposable income

      • +27

and your name makes it ironic.

    • +9

I think I'll stick to my sandals this time.

Unfortunately that comes out more expensive for me:

      • Link says Sandal. Not sandals. Yikes.

        • +4

Because you can only buy one sandal for $780, not a pair.

Also note that the right one is slightly more expensive than the left one. Being a true OzBargainer I bought 2 left sandals.

          • +1

@bio: It's the raised heel that makes these an absolute bargain.

      • +1

Can't even see if it's a double plugger or just single :(

    • Or get an electric fly swatter.

    • very expensive way to kill flies. I think they'll stick to my sandals this time.

    salt bae approves

  • +5

I could imagine it would be a huge pain cleaning up salt all over the place

    • +1

One pinch of salt per shot. So yeah if your house is perfectly clean, it will need a vacuum after use plus vacuuming up the carcass. I will personally use it outdoors mostly.

      • Fair enough. I imagine it's still fun as hell to use though

        • if they're accurate they'd be fun

      • +8

Shooting flies outdoors? Just don't have the time for that.

    • +32

Just aim near food, instant seasoning.

      • +21

        Bonus protein, too.

    • +2

It's not at all a pain - you just don't notice a bit of salt on the ground. I've had mine for a few years now and never noticed salt around the place.

      • +10

With all due respect, don't encourage me to spend unnecessary money because I absolutely will hahaha

      • Less mould?

      • +1

I think that depends on whether you're a shoes on/off household, whether you've got carpet or hard floors, etc

I can say I stopped using mine in my shoes off, tile floored house.

      • +2

Or get a dog, he will lick all the salt.

      • Does it stun spiders, and can you shoot them off the wall?

      • I imagine tolerance to stuff on the floor is very subjective… lol

  • +2

i wanna get a scope attachment and use it as a sniper rifle.. snipe the buggers at long-distance

    • they're gonna snigger as they fly by your face

  • +6

fyi u can kill bugs on their site by clicking them

    I'd be down voting if I couldn't

    • I didn't realise you could actually shoot those! Good fun!

  • The barrel looks like it would jam up with salt

  • +8

I have one. They do work, but you do have to get quite close. It also depends on which species of fly you are targeting. Some little flies disintegrate, others take a couple shots to kill. Others seems to shrug it off.

Be careful though, you could easily do some serious damage if misdirected.

Overall 6/10. Would not buy again.

    • Is yours the version 3.0? How close is "quite close". I hope I won't get buyer's remorse after spending $150!

      • +5

Yes, version 3. I'd say anywhere between 10-20cm, if you want to be sure. Of course you can also get lucky from further… and depending on the type of fly.

        Here is it

Just to clarify, it can be a lot of fun but I was expecting it to kill from a little further.
Other insects though, like mosquitos have zero chance of survival.

    • +2

I find different brand have different size grain, eg. Saxa the grain is larger than then "generic" Coles/Woolies salt.
With bigger grain you get further range and easier kill.
I managed to kill a few flies on the fly when using the Saxa salt.

    • This tells me everything, thanks. Not worth the money or effort.

  • +9

Why not just make the laser sight more powerful and not need the salt? Cut out the middleman and the sodium!

    • +1

Oooh, interesting idea. I have a green laser that is strong enough to light matches and pop black balloons. Would it pop a (very small) black fly?….

      • +1

Not before you pop your own vision. Don't look at the spot where that green laser if hitting for too long, you will regret it.

      • might burn the paint on your white walls

      • you'd want protective lenses if you're going to do that

    • Thats what I thought too. This should do it:

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/353864434913?hash=item5263f6c4e1…

Batteries and good tinted goggles essential….

  • Bought a couple of these before Xmas, very satisfying and does not make a mess. Not sure whether a laser sight would achieve anything though. Fly needs to be stationary, just aim slightly above and blast away.

  • +1

    Just wear a cork hat!

    • Indoor?

Insects are good — don't kill.

Mankind the real pest — eliminate.

    • +9

they're working on it. salt in everything we eat.

      • +1

        👀

      • Yeah, that's not what killing us.

        • +1

you're right. It's the PERSON, not the GUNS SALT, that kills us.

    • I dunno, not all insects are good, just like not all humans are good…

    • +1

Agreed. I just want a way of stunning them so I can chuck them outside.

  • Flies sure, but how are they against ghosts ala Supernatural?

    • +1

It's best to use Himalayan pink salt for the supernatural

  • +2

You could probably get fly screens installed on all your windows for that much. Not worth their salt.

    • Wow, didn't know you get flyscreens for windows.
      Do they work on windows10?

      • You need to download an update from Microsoft first

      • they sure do!

you got yo fly screens, yo supafly screens, yo ultra supafly screens too.

        word.

  • I have one of these, bought it for my other half for a Christmas present a couple of years ago. She loves it, but she is a self proclaimed fly hater. We use the saxa cooking salt. It is nice and chunky, and as such it seems to give a range of about a meter for the common house fly. While it is a novelty, it does work and it is fun.

  • Will this be effective on roaches?

    • +1

Roaches are immortal, they never die.

  • +1

can we get one for like 70 delivered, don't need 2

  • Got one of these because tiny cloth moths were multiplying and super flighty and annoying to catch if you approached them with a swatter.

With this even the kids actually enjoy doing their bit to get rid of annoying flying bugs that make it inside. Suffice to say flying pests have been eliminated and any that make their way inside don't last long.

That being said I have noticed that larger flies can just shrug it off but they're usually slower and not a hassle to just swat.

  • My friends in America tell me that we should be using assault rifles to protect ourselves from the commie flies!

  • +1

I used my lightning hand to catch them and released outside. Years of practice in my youth before they have PC.

  • Laser sight so you can accurately aim at a fly?

  • Do these work on Huntsman Spiders? Or will it just make them angry and jump at you!? Hmm maybe I'll keep the spider to eat the flys instead. Or maybe I'll use my nerf gun instead lol.

  • +1

Anyone in Melbourne want to grab one each?

I'm located in Doncaster VIC 3108 for pickup.

  • Under alternatives you missed out the electric racquet (https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07B8D2SCR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_g…). Surprisingly effective - and provides quite a ZAP. Not sure I’d be investing in the OPs method.

Does anyone remember the cheatcode on GTA: "COMEFLYWITHME" ? :')
    Brings back memories!

+1 for the creative coupon code

  • I've wanted one of these since version 1 but the price has always put me off. This deal tempted me, but really this is just $10 off normal price with the addition of a laser. Ehhhh…….

  • How useful would this be with a demon invasion?

    • Depends how fast you can pump each shot and shoot a circle of salt around you

      • Oh…I don’t want the salt around me.

  • +1

I've had one of these for years and still get about 5-10 "visitors dealt with" a week
    https://www.jaycar.com.au/the-amazing-fly-gun/p/YS5545

Probably nowhere near as good as the salt shots (with this you need to be perfectly perpendicular to the surface where you're shooting) but it gets the job done. It also fits in a tiny corner in a drawer, and it was less than $10 so best bang for your buck ever

  • +1

What's a life of a fly worth nowadays; just trying to work out ROI…

  • These are absolute bs. I mean how on earth can the insect even apply enough pressure to the trigger to discharge their weapon?

  • Anyone in Brisbane interested in grabbing one each and sharing the cost?

  • I found out how to use this to kill Cockroaches. Have to shoot it from the side which usually flips it over and then shoot the belly from close range . If you attempt to shoot the back, the exoskeleton protects it and doesnt do much
